PvP disrespect to lore and the Elder Scrolls (item)

It is the name of the game. As an item; they are artifacts that contain records of past and future events, they represent power, knowledge and are an important part of history. They are not supposed to reach wrong hands, and they are to be treated with care and respect and, above all, they are to be kept safe.

However, in PvP the scrolls are constantly directly treated like sh*tty pieces of paper. They are use to kid-play, to troll, they are dropped in rivers, in towns, they are handled to the enemy, they are used to taunt, to dance around, and they are taken two or three at the same like if they are carrying shopping bags.

Why people do this? Worse; why ZOS allows this?

How the scrolls are treated in Cyrodiil goes against everything history and ZOS tell us about them.

    1) It's just a game?

    2) It's just pvp - this is not where you go for "immersion"/RP/in-characterness/etc. It's where you go for griefing, zergs, bunny-hopping, teabagging, and assorted other silliness.

It's because to the majority of players they are *** pieces of paper and nothing more than alliance points.

Bethesda hammered all of this out in pre-production so there's nothing lore-breaking about the Cyrodiil war game. And ZOS can't really referee how each player handles the objectives in the game.

But the basic Cyrodiil story is that Alliance thieves stole the Scrolls from the Cult of the Ancestor Moth (who themselves smuggled from the Imperial Library), and the Alliances now try to steal them from each other to bestow their latent powers.

One has to presume both the casings and the Scrolls themselves are indestructible for the very protection of reality itself.

Well, I once took a scrol to the ancestor moth priests in cyro (beeing a smurf its not home territory, so I am sorry i forgot the name)... guess what: They didn't even recognize it!
... and yes they are mostly blind, but they do know elder scrolls and complain all day that they like them to be safe in their libary and such.

Point is: Since then, my main is totally sure those glowy papers are definately not elder scrolls. You are welcome to prove her wrong, but if even experts on elders scrolls won't recognize the glowy paper as beeing elder scrolls, why should my little redguard act as if they are?

edit: On a serious note: loopholes concerning story and lore are annoying, but nothing we say will make ZOS change that, it seems.

This response makes logical sense ^^

In the lore aren't the scrolls supposed to give the carrier enormous power (or something)? ... but when I carry one it just stops me from using certain skills or the ability to get on a horse! Then when I carry it by foot from one corner of the map to the far corner of the map... I don't get any more reward for doing it than another alliance player that has the right scroll quest & did nothing.

I would like to see a change where the player that picks up the scrolls scores some alliance points, the player that places the scroll gets some alliance points & other players that are online at the time & have the scroll quest get much less alliance points.

I don't think this will do anything to stop scroll trolling into slaughterfish or whatever.. at this late stage of the game that is just going to happen when PVPers that have been playing this same mechanic for years get bored. It would just give a little more incentive for players to do the long tedious run!

A couple of nights back in Sotha Sil, I followed a scroll carrier from AD's scroll temple up to Alessia & when he saw the bridge had been destroyed he just dropped the scroll on the bridge & ran off! I picked up the scroll & ran it down the middle bridge & back up north to Kingscrest... sure it gives my alliance more points in the campaign but I got no reward as I didn't even have the quest.

They're not supposed to give you more power just by having them.
They're valuable because you can basically read the past and future in them (at the cost of going blind).

Because lots of players are trash that want to help their friend on the opposite faction so they can farm ap peacefully and have nice end of canpaign reward

Im all in favor of punishment for those behaviours but i dont see how it could be implemented

So i just live with it cause anyway its not like its gonna change my life

"Brother Euclidius, who it must be admitted is an original thinker, theorizes that the soldiers in an army possessing an Elder Scroll are open, on some unconscious level, to a collective osmotic absorption of the prophecies therein—and that insofar as the soldiers' goals all align toward triumph over their enemies, they therefore tend to collectively make choices that align with the prophecies foretold in the Scroll. By swimming with the flow of history, as it were, an army with a Scroll is therefore somewhat more likely to make decisions that coincide with the probability of events, which leads to a preponderance of victories."

He was referring to the guy carrying them, i.e. when you pick up the scroll and run. I was a bit imprecise in my reply.
That they added faction-wide bonuses to the Scrolls to give players an incentive to actually care about them, is a different kind of thing.
But I really like Euclidius' explanation. :D
