Major expansions. Is ESO still the only game that doesn't allow sharing on consoles?

Greetings,

I've been away with my wife from ESO for around a year and recently we felt the urge to visit Tamriel once lagain.

We play on xbox and we share all games and dlcs. For those who don't know how it works, on Xbox, any account that is logged in on your home console has access to all your games and DLC. Because of how the system is designed, this sharing works with every single game and dlc released on xbox...except ESO DLCs, even the ones purchased directly from MS store like the Morrowind. ZOS developed a code system just to bypass the sharing.

With that being said, we grew tired of buying every piece of dlc and expasion 4 times, especially because on consoles it cost sometimes even 10x more than on pc (not kidding) but that's why we have sharing.

With Elswyr just around the corner I started to wonder if anything changed. So, fellow console players, is sharing still blocked? I'm talking about large expansions like Morrowind and Summerset that are purchased from MS /PSN store, not crown store.

Before PC folks will attack me. Game/dlc sharing is a standard thing on consoles, just like free online is a standard thing on PCs. ZOS is the only company that actually put time and money to bypass the default console feature. I really hope it changed by now.

Thanks!

Unfortunately no you still can not game share DLC. All DLC is linked to your eso account that's why it is locked.

Thanks. Guess I'll pass :) All my friends quit for very same reason. In other games DLCs are linked to game account as well but they just work fine. Only reason it doesn't work in ESO is they've implemented another security level with codes. Hope they will stop the greed one day. They don't understand they lose money thst way not gain it.

If i understand correctly, you two play in the same console only with different accounts.

If is the same console, why just you two dont play in the same account?

Lots of reasons for that. We have 2 Xboxes in our household and when kids aren't occupying one, we play together. Also, sometimes when she's playing on Xbox, I play on my PC and that uses the same account as well. I can't be logged in on 2 devices at the same time.
On a side note, I find it funny how the whole internet is raising up against EA and their greed but no one is mentioning that ESO, a B2P game (I've paid $90 for the base..) has a subscription paywall for simple things like coloring a costume, crown store with all cosmetics locked behind a paywall, all mounts etc, boosts etc, all DLC behind a paywall and if that's not enough, ESO is the only game on consoles blocking the game sharing. No wonder it struggles with the population on consoles. They're splitting the player base in every possible way. I think they would be much better off with only cosmetics and eso+ as an extra income. The F2P MMOs surpassed WoW in profits a long time ago. Since ESO became free with Gamepass it's population quadrupled on Xbox but that will drop again when players will realize they can't play with others without spending an extra $200 a year.

I know I'm late to the party, but I purchased Greymoor (First time I purchased a chapter) and have really enjoyed it. I buy into the whole ESO Plus deal, and figured the enjoyment of the game was worth it. So, finally, my husband got intrigued and wanted to try ESO and the Greymoor chapter.

Now, we are on PS4. With every other game, if our main account makes the PS4 the primary console, the other account on the console can enjoy the games I have purchased. Apparently not so with the Greymoor chapter.

So, let me get this right. Zos expects me to purchase 2 copies of Greymoor so that my husband can play, and this is on the same PS4 console I play on. Correct? I'm pissed, turned off, and will probably not renew the ESO Plus.

On PC, everyone needs their own "copy" to play as well. It matters not if you play on a separate computer or the same one. All that matters is who is logging in.

On PC I guess everyone is just used to "licenses" not "copies". When you purchase a game, you are really just purchasing a license to play, which is linked to an account, not to a console (or individual PC for that matter). The actual game code and assets are freely distributable and you can have as many "copies" as you want.

I guess this is just the result of the many past years of console gaming where you "owned" the copy of your game and could freely sell it, keep it, lend it or what not. Also, the closed nature of consoles probably limits the abilities of people exploiting the ability to share games.

Now I don't really know console gaming, but I assume your husband can just use your account to play if he wants, utilizing a character slot or two correct? Instead of buying a whole new license why not just buy a bunch of character slots for less?

This is unfortunate for us console players. I've had a few friends not venture into ESO for the very same reason as they've heard about the no-sharing exception in this game.

Just wanted to add my voice to this and experienced a very similar incident.

Bought ESO Online Blackwood Edition because both my wife and I wanted to try it out after having good experiences with the much improved fallout 76. Figured we'd move on to ESO and play that especially now that it's got tons of new content since launch.

Only to find out that unlike MOST games on PSN, DLC is considered a "license" per user and is not shared on the console. Even though we specifically purchased the Blackwood edition, only I had access to the chapters. This really caught us off guard because not only did we not have any issues with sharing Fallout 76, but you don't even have to pay for the newer chapters if you own the game. ( We understood up front that the chapters were "paid dlc" in ESO, but didn't realize it was also by user ).

I was fortunate as I've never complained to PSN before about anything, so this one time exception, they granted me a refund even though I had already downloaded it. But yeah, I get individual paying for in-game content ( items, skins, etc and what not ) but I'm not paying double for actual chapter content.

Too bad, really wanted to play. but probably won't be coming back.
