If I'm not mistaken, both Windows and Xbox are run by M$ but there is no cross-play.
I wonder who is the one actually sour about cross-play.

Cross-play between PC and console doesn't make sense in a competitive environment. Mouse+Keyboard are just a lot more precise, on top of that you can use addons and mods on PC which would be another benefit.

PC + consoles wouldn't work very well but console-only cross-play does and there Sony has been the problem as of now.

You know both consoles support mouse and keyboard, right? The devs need to support it too - but with Warframe for example you can play M&K. I get the addons argument though.

Crossplay is a massive fad though. I've seen quite a few gaming websites do polls on it now, and generally the results are the same. The vast majority of people just don't care... This is only one excerpt of one poll. but I've seen many of these now:
According to a survey by GameTrack (via GamesIndustry.biz), it seems that cross-platform play adds little value to gamers' purchasing decisions with 58 percent being "Indifferent" to it, eight percent of all respondents felt "Fairly Negative" or "Very Negative" about the push for cross-platform play from the games industry while 34 percent saw it as a positive trend. The survey claims that cross-platform play is not a major factor when gamers decide about buying a console. Furthermore, when presented with cross-platform play as a feature that may sway them to buy one console over another, 54 percent disagreed with 38 percent disagreeing strongly. Only 13 percent agreed with the statement. In the same vein, 56 percent disagreed that cross-platform play would convince them to buy into a console's service like PSN or Xbox Live versus 13 percent who agreed it would.

The same applies to games too. 48 percent disagreed that cross-platform play would be a reason to buy a game they may have ignored compared to 17 percent who agreed and 49 percent of respondents disagreed that cross-platform functionality would make them more likely to play online than they currently do, compared to 17 percent who agreed.

tl;dr, basically nobody cares or wants crossplay except a small vocal minority. The way I see it there's no point pushing for it.

I'd prefer if they merged the EU and NA servers first, would bring more life to the game, especially on Xbox EU

Completely agree for the need for crossplay! My wife and I started on PC, I deployed for a year, and she started backup on PS4 and now we either restart anew and/or reinvest hundreds of dollars between new game purchases or hardware. Honestly used to be a diehard console fan, but now I'm looking forward to universal hardware.

They need to merge all the servers regardless of geographic location, or platform

Ugh. No thank you. Instead of 2k ms lag as I have now, it would be through the atmosphere. Right now, PC/NA is so full in cities, it's hard to get things done like crafting, opening merchant screen, the bank....

Yeah, merge a community that dont like each other, as far as I can tell, and watch them get along together.

    Best idea ever.

Get an Xbox and play both platforms. This will problemsolve the issue of playing with your missing friends and I am sure they would even help level you up. :)

Zos and both console companies have an agreement. Just because a company changes their stance does not mean existing agreements will be changed automatically.

No Geographic servers need to remain due to lag issues. Many on the EU server would experience AUS type lag if they had all servers in NA.

Hm. I don't think it will happen this generation. And I think it is ok this way. Reasoning is simple: Server for all (PC and Console) would end up with the "master race" dominating the game. And its not only a matter of input method. Its performance as well. Besides, though we see Sony taking a more relaxed stance, I personally guess that it will not have effect before the era of PS5 and XBox "new". Maybe - but just maybe - we get a server merge at this point. However, as long as ESO does continue to strive on all platforms (can at least say PS4 Europe feels packed) there is no real incentive.

However, this game might live on during the complete next console generation. I have no idea what might change during it. How player expectations might change. I only know that the likelihood for me staying is very high. Thus, I just want a working game without any more hiccups. Guess merges might complicate architecture and bring more technical issues. So .. I guess I am happier the way everything is right now?

Only if there is platform faction lock ;)

Consider one system having a server shutdown, all that platforms players would disappear like the Dwemer!
