Using Dark Deal Morph on a Magicka Build Sorcerer

There has been a recent change to the Dark Exchange ability for sorcerers (both stam and magicka) that is discussed in other threads and I recommend reading these discussions for players concerned about how the changes affect gameplay.

I wanted to share a discovery I made, which I feel, other magicka sorcerers might find useful in both PvP and PvE environments. I chose the dark deal morph (converts magicka into health and stamina) for the base skill "dark exchange", as opposed to dark conversion- which is a morph that converts stamina into health and magicka. I tested both morphs on my magicka sorcerer, and feel the former has much more utility for my playing style. Since my stamina resource pool is already low, using rapids drains most of my stamina in one cast. My stamina recovery is also low. The only time I slotted rapids was for riding my mount (using an addon that does it automatically and removes it once you dismount, if not in combat).

Now, I slot both dark deal and rapids on my back bar as an essential and now economical skill set combination used in a variety of applications. I imagine other players might not want to give up two slots on their back bar in exchange for extended enhanced mobility, but it's nice to have for dismounted situations like farming, pvp play, and skyshard hunting. Of course sorcerers also have abilities like bolt escape and boundless storm to boost their speed for brief periods of time, but I like being able to use dark exchange in conjunction with rapids for the extended Major Expedition buff that rapids has. I have not tested it to see if using dark exchange with vigor is very helpful, but that is another potential application.

The downside is you lose the ability to exchange stamina for health and magicka. If your magicka sustain is very good, which it already should be for a magicka-based build, dark conversion is rarely ever needed. Also, with such a low stamina pool to begin with, dark conversion is only good for a few casts.

I agree in that I don't dislike the skill and that both morphs actually have potential for a magsorc. Though I'm PvE only, I understand some slot the 'get stam' morph in PvP when rolling and break free usage may be frequently required.

My magsorc wants EleDrain on her back bar so dual destro staves rule out healing by resto staff. Though surge is good, having a burst heal is nice. So she looked at matriarch vs one of the dark exchange morphs. She went with matriarch since it can heal others as well as herself. Double slotting matriarch is a slot loss but also means the emergency burst heal is instantly available regardless of which bar you're on. As she is a heavy attack build, mag sustain is easy so I'm sure that influenced our decision as well.

    Insightful thinking you have. :)

Thank you for your reply! I also use the Matriarch morph when I am using pet(s). And I usually drop the rapids and dark exchange morphs to be able to slot Clannfear and Matriarch on both bars. I don't always use pets, especially in PvP situations requiring stealth, because pets can compromise a hidden player's position. Of course, slotting pets on only one bar remedies that- as swapping bars quickly banishes the pets.

The problem I have with having pets on only one bar is-- I have to keep summoning them, which can be tedious at times. However, I do use pets in pvp and forego stealthing- because pets are a very powerful (and often essential) application for sorcerers. I think it all boils down to the dynamics of the situation.

Agree. Not to stray too far but my bow/bow stamsorc slots the 'trade magicka for health and stam' morph. Unlike Vigor, it heals nicely but costs magicka while giving her stamina. Stamsorcs struggle with stam sustain - and bow/bow ones even moreso since heavy attack = suicide. So you're very right that the base skill and its morphs have plenty of flexible potential for use depending on how and what the sorc plays.

The only unhappy note I have on the skill is that after casting it, I cannot bar swap for a couple seconds. Just something to work into when I cast it.
