Why can't the Towns of Tamriel have more structures?

I wonder just how much of a performance impact adding 10 more houses and structures to a Town would have. If cities like Orsinium and Alinor can be playable then sure the smaller towns dotting the map could be given some more substance to them. I want each village to be its own place to explore and wander through, not just have it be a glancing look at its Bank, Guildhall, and 2 whole private homes.

There should be some serious world building. And im deathly afraid of how scaled down Elsweyr is gonna be. If we really are going to the city of Rimmen that was shown in the Cinematic, i want to get LOST in that place.

Well they scale them down for performance reasons but they have done things like made some bigger cities. Like in Wrothgar and Hews bane. They might make Rimmen about the sizes of those but it also depends on how much content they are doing for this area. They could also make it the size of Alinor in Summerset. Which is a possibility also, but until they tell us more or we see it for ourselves. Hard to say what size it could be. They might one day go back and add more buildings but most likely just player houses. As I don't think they will expand vanilla zones beyond housing.

Its always been like this with ES games, a serious amount of abstraction goes on.

The map is massively condensed and towns are already disproportionately big.

The outside world part of the map is filled with missions as are the towns.

I agree in that I'd like more depth in the towns but then I'd also want wider vistas in the countryside and without a "hey sirrah!" every five steps.

I don't know, maybe a Cyrodiil sized map with towns to fit, that would be pretty sweet.

Except they aren't genuinely playable, sadly. FPS drops to single digits as you wander through Alinor, there's hilarious lag, when other players can be frozen in mid-air only to appear some distance away a moment later. There are clearly invisible boundary points within the towns, which always produce lag and FPS drop. It doesn't make the places unplayable, but it is noticeable enough to be annoying.

I'm guessing that the current size and scale of cities is probably right on the limit of performance.

My sister has a really *** laptop that's like 7 years old and can still run through alinor just fine on some 30 FPS.

I myself get only about 5 FPS loss on a modern setup. It's not that bad at all.

This issue is definitely rooted in your computer.

I'm on a 5 year old computer (actually it might be 6 years old) and I've never had a problem with lag (unless my internet service is acting up!).

Sadly they have no incentive to overhaul the base game zones to get them on the same level as the DLC areas.

What wouldn't I give for a proper Daggerfall or Wayrest.
Alandrol Sul: He's making another Numidium?!?
Vivec: Worse, buddy. They're buying it.
