Morrowind purchase as a returning player

Ok, this has probably been discussed to death in the past, but...

I have been a player of ESO from the start. Purchased Morrowind and Summerset when they came up and plan to get Elsweyr now.

I know another player, however, who only has the base game and is interested in coming back now. He is a bit put off by the fact a new account can get Elsweyr/Summerset/Morrowind with the prepurchase for $60 and he does not have the option to do anything but get the upgrade for Elsweyr ($40), the upgrade for Summerset ($20) and then Morrowind in the crown store ($40 because you need to buy more crowns than necessary) for about $100 total.

That is a big difference. I understand new players getting a deal, but I told him something does not sound right about this. No way would a returning player be punished that much for not getting Morrowind when it came out. Looking into it, though, it seems that is exactly what happened when Morrowind became crown store only.

I hope I am still missing something here. Is Morrowind included with the Elsweyr upgrade prepurchase? Is it on sale separately elsewhere ( o:) )?
If I were just coming back now, this might turn me right around, too, if I encountered it.

Thanks.

You get Morrowind and Summerset with Elsewyr standard, not the upgrade: https://account.elderscrollsonline.com/store

I know. That is the point. He can't get the standard because he already has an account.
which might be fine if the upgrade included Morrowind like the base game does now, but as far as I can see it does not. so his ONLY option is the crown store.

Apologies, I probably shouldn't have skimmed through the original post. I just focused on
Is Morrowind included with the Elsweyr upgrade prepurchase?

It would definitely be a great thing if once a chapter is availble for new subscribers in the base game, that it becomes availble for everyone.

I know this may not be exactly what he's looking for but try google a bit more detail on the topic. I originally bought my base game through steam and then bought the Morrowind chapter. Later on I had such issues with the steam login, I went to Bethesda.net and bought a second copy of the base game. I logged in to bethesda.net with my game login details and the account merged with my steam expansion. I could then login through steam, or directly with the Bethesda launcher when steam bugged out after new dlc or large patches. When Summerset launched, I bought the DLC through the crown store and my hubby had the same issues with the steam login. I bought a second copy of the game for him too. However, you could no longer buy the base game without Morrowind so it was €10 more. Once again, the steam and Bethesda accounts meshed smoothly and he can now login on steam and non-steam. What I'm trying to explain in such a longwinded explanation is perhaps you can just buy the complete game base/morrowind/summerset/elsweyr at bethesda.net for 60€ and register it and login with your current account? Everything, dlc's characters, inventory, gold etc from my steam expansions is in my bethesda login even though I only bought the base versions there. Perhaps it works both ways. The added bonus is that when steam melts, I can still login with the bethesda launcher. This was in February (for mine) and June 2018 (for my husband).

If it works that way it would be an interesting, if convoluted, option. I'd like to get confirmation from Zenimax first, though, because when you are logged in with an account that already has the base game, the Elsweyr non-upgrade purchase just says your account is not eligible.

I'll see if I can check into it more. Thanks.

I bought the base game + Morrowind chapter package on Steam. Then I bought the Summerset Digital CE upgrade here, then, to bypass the Steam login issues I bought the base game + Morrowind chapter package again here. I bought the Elsweyr Digital CE upgrade yesterday too.

No issues with it being eligible at all.

If your friend bought the ESO base game on Steam, I would recommend going for the base game + Morrowind chapter here, especially if it goes on 50% sale again. Or, if your friend bought the game on Steam, perhaps buying the Elsweyr + Morrowind + Summerset here would be possible.

I actually have no clue where he bought the game, but the Steam issue seems to be complicating matters even more.

Reading all this about Steam problems, merging accounts, rebuying things you already bought...if I were a returning player I would probably just turn right back around thinking it is nowhere near the trouble to figure out how to get back in. :#

Looked into it a bit more. Morrowind is not for sale because it is apparently not even considered a chapter anymore, just broken up as DLC.

So it makes even less sense that it is included with a new account because it is literally impossible for an existing account to buy a chapter that no longer exists.

Edit: And when you add in the collectors editions, it gets even nuttier.
A player who is returning and has Morrowind but wants to catch up with Summerset essentially pays the same price as a brand new player getting Elsweyr. $60 for standard or $80 collector's.
Returning without Morrowind adds $40 standard or $65 collector (again, you need to overbuy the number of crowns because the packs and the store prices are 100-500 crowns out of sync).

    Standard Editions
    • New player: $60
    • Returning player with Morrowind: $40 + $20 = $60
    • Returning player w/o Morrowind: $40 + $20 + $40 (crowns) = $100

    Collector's Editions
    • New player: $80
    • Returning player with Morrowind: $50 + $30 = $80
    • Returning player w/o Morrowind: $50 + $30 + $40(crowns) +$25(crowns) = $145

Can anyone really say Morrowind is now worth almost twice as much as it used to be? Especially when the chapter is included with the cheapest version of the base game? Something seems very wrong here.
