I feel like I should stop getting the physical. We always get boned out of the stuff the Digital version gets. Like Summerset: They get the Bedlam costume or whatever, but physical doesn't. And I really like that costume!

Yes. Of course, that would be cool.

But in a way the mentioning of that was (for me at least) like saying "don't you guys have phones?".

I mean, they want us to pre-order and to many people, the ce was the reason for that.
Now it is that many not just don't pre order it, but won't buy at all (at least at first).
And buying something afterwards is like buying the battlefield 1 CE without a game in it. Which was also very unpopular.

Seriously? I don't care about statues, but i always get the book and map from the collector's editions. Not getting a new book with the lore and artwork from Murkmire and Elsweyr is a HUGE letdown. That book better be coming later this year then. If ESO stops making physical items like books of art and lore, that is going to HUGELY diminish my interest in the game.

Naryu's book was done on nice thick glossy paper, binding was thick and heavy and sturdy with lovely braiding on the spine. meanwhile, Raz's book is not only half the size (no literally put it on top of Naryu's book, its exactly half the size - which means less content) but the binding is soft thin and flimsy and paper feels like the kind of cheap thin sketch paper you can buy at art or craft stores for couple of bucks.

I like to leaf through my art books every once in a while and I'm almost afraid to do it with Raz's book becasue of how low quality it is. I'm afraid one read too many will damage it.

As someone who really treasures the previous ESO collectors editions, this is quite a blow... I was looking forward to another one.

I really hope that next years chapter is going to bring one at the very least.

Really? I returned my Summerset CE because it was a cheap ripoff compared to their previous CEs. I own the Imperial Edition and the Morrowind CE and both were worth their money (amazing statues, amazing book). The Summerset CE was a joke, especially the book. The statue was nice but still smaller in comparison.

So no, I don't think every hardcore fan would be satisfied with anything they'd have offered us in that regard.

At least mine. It's not quality of great artbook, yes, but quality of good book. I had books (usual) with much worse quality that served for many years without any serious damage.

No matter the quality or size of the books, there's still a lot of concept art made for the Elsweyr chapter and Murkmire DLC and other DLCs, not to mention the zone map. Having no physical CE means no access whatsoever to that content, nor the loremaster's flavour texts. I can't help but view that as a major let down, especially in a day and age where gaming collector's editions get more and more elaborate and luxurious. We need MORE books and merch for ESO, not less..

That's reason to think how to make better. Not to abandon it at all. Improve artbook? Add something? Or just do same as Summerset and care only about not giving misleading advertisement - people already know what it will be and can understand if it's ok for them or not?
Also, no CE is much lower "quality" for chapter itself. CE is reason to order it right now and pay more money, not wait until it'll become cheap or dlc.

• They always ended up vastly discounting shortly after release, so many physical CE purchasers felt like they got $crewed.
• The (fumbled) logistics in trying to get codes applied for physical editions were resource intensive and often circus-like in execution.
• The overall quality of the mass-manufactured resin/plastic figurines with the two-spritz painted effects left much to be desired for anyone who would rightfully call themselves a true collector.
• All of this is also based on the fact that everything arrives semi-on-time and in one piece. Highly irritating when limited edition anything shows up missing, broken, or in less than the pristine shape a CE should warrant.

I suspect for these reasons, and more, they opted to stick with the software components. They'll ultimately have other buyable's in the Bethesda shop at some later point, likely rendering more income than the CE's ever would.

EDIT: The printed materials have always been of good quality. I will give them that.

I have to agree this is HUGELY disappointing.
Normally by today I would have pre-ordered the CE 10 minutes after the announcement show. Now, I haven't pre-ordered Elsweyr and am debating when and if I will.
All the new stuff coming in 2019 sounded awesome, and was almost kinda excited again about ESO, but no CE was a big let down, and I'm just kinda waiting for the other shoe to fall...i.e. How we grinded for months for the "special tickets" that are now gonna be in Crown Store.
I have ALL the CE's, all the G.O.Y. editions of TES 3,4 &5, 8 TES Maps, 12+ t-shirts from Daggerfall to Skyrim to ESO, a Skyrim winter coat and Skyrim hoodie, and hell, my briefcase for my work is a leather ESO messenger bag!

Can we be informed why no CE edition? Or is ALL the new, cool stuff and content for 2019 just a "carrot on a stick" for the Marketing/Advertising suits to lead us into more of the strategy we saw in 2018?

I don't disagree with that at all, in fact - we agree on that.

all I'm saying is that the drop in quality for art book was significant, and yes it feels low quality. there are cheap sketch journals you can get at michaels that have better paper then Raz's journal. not an exaggeration. the art is still wonderful and so is writing which is why I still liked it, but the actual physical quality of the book was... not great.

and I'm actualy in a minority who thought that the statue was great.

no, I don't think they should just stop with CE all together, rather bring it back up to quality standards they used to have.

We all want the Physical CE. That is given. That is what made the chapters special, or otherwise, we would just get an Orsinium-like DLC (which is a proto-chapter by itself) with slightly more features like the new Crown Crate season.

The Imperial Edition CE was great, Morrowind CE was great, and Summerset CE is good enough, but mixed reactions for that (and deservedly so, that paper quality and binding was bad, the Mephala statue was not bad). I have them all.

Something must have affected their decision to not have a CE and some are asking what is that "something" that made them forego the CE for Elsweyr. Maybe it is right to say that the bad publicity Bethesda got for Fallout 76's CE "canvas" bag that turned out to be a "nylon" bag had a significant effect on ZOS for this year's chapter or maybe some other reason. We don't know and we can only think.

Like T-shirts and necklaces, maybe. That's possible, or even a new Tales of Tamriel book.

In my opinion, Ubisoft did better with AC Odyssey physical items.

Sadly, @ZOS_GinaBruno was very vague with her comment on 'things to come' . Marketing 101 should've been: we changed course / focus on physical editions; now you can purchase the game files and pick the goodies ( artbook, figurines, maps, etc.) you want separately - JUST CHECK THE BOXES !

That's too bad, as I have all of the previous boxed collector's editions, along with a nice statue collection. I guess I'll just get the digital CE, but it's slightly disappointing that my CE statue collection won't be expanding this year.

I’ve purchased every physical collectors edition. I’m very disappointed that we won’t be getting one this time. I was really hoping for a dragon statue or something. And I really enjoy having the books with the artwork.

I am very disappointed by this.

Still looks fun though.
