I don't know if its an "initiation" or something but yesterday even though i held a WB in place. I still get berated. Even I'm just sitting in one place I still get trolled. That's why I'm not in any guild, I can't make friends with anyone. I'm just going to abide the rules and stay quiet from now on.

Don’t let one troll scare you off, or they’ve won. Being a positive, communicative and helpful player comes with more pros than cons—the biggest one being you can feel like a genuine member of an online community, and NOT that raging neckbeard who’s angry at himself and the world and needs to take it out on strangers.

Like attracts like and you’ll soon find yourself surrounded by similar personalities. All the trolls will be left with is sad reflections of their own miserable behaviour.

Don't be afraid to use the Ignore function. People who attack you out of nowhere are trash, and while they seem like they are the majority, they're just the noisy ones. Once you silence them you can hear the normal people.

The real deal rarely ever harp about their own skill or berate others.

Not sure about the whole story (there must be more to it) but I have had people just randomly send me hate tells for no reason or for bizarre stuff.

Don't let anyone dictate how you play your game. There are FAR more of us out there in game that will help and be friendly than not.

Same. I noticed a severe uptick in this in the past few months.

Seems like the average DPS and player skill in vet dungeons has dropped substantially, but the butthurt has increased dramatically.

Op sounds like you are a tank. A tank who holds a WB in place is normally a hero. The only time there can be a problem is when there are more than one tank 'competing' to hold aggro. Tank etiquette is let the tank who has aggro keep it unless they get into trouble, then grab it from them for awhile. If a conflict between tanks is not the case here, then it sounds like someone just being a jerk to you. Hang in there, jerks actually are a minority.

OP, just turn the chat off. I do the following thing: I create a new tab, where I see only NPCs talking. No zone chat, no even my guilds. Somebody whispers toxic things? Blacklist him. Don't pay attention at all - why care about weird people around you?

My guess is OP left out that they are on console with voice and were talking nonsense during the fight. It has to be more than what he said, as you clearly see.

and I had a lot of weird whispers. I just changed my username to a neutral one and it worked perfectly - I never had unwanted attention ever since!

Drop aggro and reset boss to *** them way off or drop guard let yourself die and let WB kill them did shadow cloak a few times on my nb tank when i had aggro pissed a buncha peeps off

I keep the Chat box on in my game, but I turn off "whispers" (also known as "tells"). I recommend you doing that so you'll enjoy the game more. There's a way to turn it off by right-clicking on the Chat box where it says "Chat," then clicking on "options" and uncheck the box next to "tells". It'll prevent bullying if you're playing solo.
*Edit* I had to edit my instructions for how to turn off tells, because I didn't get it quite accurate the first time.

If you position yourself 8n such a way that the boss will aggro said person and let taunt fade, they will die. Then taunt again and continue. I do it to dps all the time in dungeons if they get lippy

I turn everything off. Say/zone/yell. It saves a lot of headaches. I don't think I've ever gotten a spontaneous tell ever in this game.
