So, we got a new teaser today for the future story content, it's awesome! Here's the picture if you haven't seen it yet.
So Abnur Tharn requests our assistance. It's been awhile since we heard from him! Last we heard from him was at the end of the base game main quest where
He was said to have taken the Amulet of Kings and ran to Cyrodiil with it.
I'm sure it'll be interesting seeing what his plans are to end the Three Banners War...but what about the other hints we've had over the past months? For awhile, it was seeming like Elsweyr was a likely choice for the Chapter of 2019, with the Baandari crates, and Elsweyr mentions in Murkmire, but with Abnur being involved and the plot surrounding ending the Three Banners War, Elsweyr would be a kind of odd fit for that kind of story, wouldn't it? But that doesn't change the fact that we do have those Baandari crates datamined, and Elsweyr mentions in Murkmire, so maybe it's just Elsweyr Dungeon DLC's after all...but, then I remembered something.
In this time period, Rimmen is being ruled by Abnur's relative, Euraxia Tharn. She's actually the mother of Javad Tharn, who you may remember from the Reaper's March storyline. Also potentially in this time period, remnants of the Akaviri still reside in the city, after being pushed out of Cyrodiil some decades or more ago by the warlord Attrebus, one of the pretender-kings of Cyrodiil before the Longhouse Emporers came about. After being pushed out, they went down to Elsweyr in Rimmen, where they stayed until remnants of the Kamal Akaviri invasion (which happened just about a decade ago from the current year in ESO) linked up with them in Rimmen and then went on to try one last time working together to re-take Cyrodiil and the Empire.
...Except, that hasn't happened yet. Or at least, I can't seem to find any references in ESO of a recent attempt of the Akaviri of Rimmen to retake Cyrodiil
after the Kamal invasion.
Here's an excerpt from the First Pocket Guide of the relevant matter:
Though ostensibly its own kingdom, Rimmen still pays tribute to the Mane of Elsweyr, from whose realm it seceded in CE812 during the Interregnum. Earlier, Akaviri refugees had fled persecution when the warlord Attrebus briefly aspired to the Imperial Throne. Attrebus, though he lasted no longer than most of the pretender kings of that period, thought he might rid Cyrodiil of the foreigners who had ruled it for the first half of the Common Era, and he drove the Akaviris past the Empire's borders into Elsweyr. The khajiit granted them asylum in the hills and steppes of northwestern Elsweyr, where they dwelt in relative seclusion until remnants of the Dir-Kamal resurfaced in Cyrodiil, seizing the Throne from Attrebus' successors. The Rimmen (literally, the "Rim Men," as the khajiit called them) joined their brothers to try to rebuild the Empire. This effort was doomed to failure, but not before the khajiit attempted to reclaim their lands in a series of bloody border wars.
I bolded the most important part. If that hasn't happened yet, and since the timeline of it is unknown, perhaps it could be an event that happens during the events of ESO? It would tie together the Elsweyr hints and the Abnur teaser, since Euraxia rules Rimmen at this time. Maybe Abnur is planning to use the Akaviri in Rimmen to try and retake Cyrodiil in the first place, and end the Three Banners War that way? It would be fufilling the lore of the event that has yet to happen.
The story could start with a Rimmen zone DLC in Elsweyr, and continue in a Cyrodiil-based Chapter (Nibenay or Colovian, idk).
Anyway, this is just a theory I've been cooking up since seeing that teaser. It could just be very well that the Elsweyr stuff is Dungeon DLCs, but I still find it odd that there are so many Elsweyr references if it's just for dungeons, something no other Dungeon DLC has had the treatment of beforehand.
There's also the matter of the symbolism with the stone tablet depicting a Dragonhead - but the tablet is broken in half. My guess is, it could be referencing a "Dragonbreak" event, as others have pointed out by now I'm sure, but besides that, I can't say much more on it right now, I don't know what the glyphs may be symbolizing. Maybe you do?
