ZOS, when you announce Midyear Mayhem, there are some things that need to be clarified from the PTS Info. I'm aware I"m perhaps jumping the gun here, but I think its important to note where some questions still exist after the PTS that it would be nice to get solid answers.
Here's what we know from the Murkmire PTS:
https://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/discussion/438653/pts-patch-notes-v4-2-2
- During this event, you can obtain one Event Ticket after completing a Cyrodiil Board or Town Daily quest, once per day per account.
- You can turn in Event Tickets to the Impresario to purchase the first Indrik evolution berry, the Dawnwood Berry of Bloom.
Clarification Needed with the coming Official Announcement.
- What does "once per day per account" mean? Is this a 24 hour timer from when its first acquired and if so, will you include an in-game timer? Or does it reset with most daily quests at 1:00 AM EST as with the past few events?
- Is there any way to acquire Event Tickets from doing Battlegrounds or are they only available from Cyrodiil as on the PTS?
- Have the problems with the "Kill 40 Enemy Players" Cyrodiil board quest not counting correctly for players in a group been addressed?
For Players
For players who are inexperienced at PVP looking to participate in the Midyear Mayhem Event, my advice is to prepare for PVP when you set foot in Cyrodiil. Yes, the Town Daily quests are technically PVE, but they take place in a PVP zone where PVP in enabled. There are no "safe" zones where you can go to quest or fish and not have to worry about being attacked. Especially since there are Cyrodiil Board quests for killing Enemy Players, and thus you are a completely legitimate target. Sometimes you can have a "truce" with players of opposing factions, but often not, and there are no consistent rules of honor over how people will treat questers.
If you hate fighting in PVP but really want those tickets, my preparations when I was a fisherman who hated the thought of having to PVP to get my Master Angler fish and complete the Town Quests were as follows. This isn't exhaustive, but its a good start for someone who just wants to get through the quests.
- Wear Impenetrable trait Gear - this gives you crit resistance so you don't melt like those PVE monsters you fight against. Impen gear is usually pretty cheap to buy from guilds, and the PVE portions of the Cyrodiil quests are really easy. You don't need top-notch PVE gear because the real threat is from other players.
- Get tanky. Having extra health will help keep you alive in a fight and gives you a little extra forgiveness when you make mistakes. It also makes you less of an obvious target for gankers who often look for low health, squishy targets.
- If you get in a fight, be proactive with your self-heals and your defense. If you let yourself fall into execute range, by the time you think about healing yourself, its too late against a good opponent. So keep the heals/defense going before you need it.
- Save your ultimate for players. Players are far more dangerous than the NPCs, so save your big guns for them.
- Be sneaky. Bring invisibility pots and use them to avoid other players. If you sneak, use line of sight.
- Group up. PVP is a lot more fun in a group and its a lot more forgiving when you've got other people to watch your back.
- Do the first Allaince War quest (training behind your Cyrodiil gates) and unlock Rapid Manuevers to get increase mount speed.
When you die:
- Everyone dies in PVP. Even the good players die a lot. Try not to worry about it, rez up at the nearest keep, and ride back to your objective. Believe me, I know it sucks if you have to ride a long way since I've done it for fishing and skyshards, but its not that bad if you keep a good attitude about it or at least keep your mind on how much you'll enjoy that Dawnwood Indriik.
- Bring a fast horse if you have one. Cyrodiil is a big place and there's a lot of riding, especially if you die or go for a far away resource quest or are trying to keep up with your group.
- If someone is camping your quest point and killing you over and over again, don't bang your head into a wall. Either find a different quest point, or call out in Zone chat for members of your alliance to go kill the camper - chances are some of the PVPers will think that's a fun idea and go clear the town for you.
Every year we get a litany of complaints from PVEers who just want to waltz into Cyrodiil and get their quests done without having to PVP. Sorry, its a Player vs Player enabled zone and PVP will probably find you and you will find that "Failing to prepare is preparing to fail." Believe me, I know from personal experience.
So please, don't go in unprepared, or if you do, please don't complain about the inevitable PVP in Cyrodiil.
