The original idea for the world was fascinating though, i do wonder how it was years ago. And if only the game could handle a more upscaled expansive land to explore.

Seems pretty consistent actually. You can still play however you want, with people who are like minded. The only thing they failed to do was allow PvP battles of the magnitudes depicted to be playable.

    PVP was a bust

Most TES fans told them it would be...they didn't listen.

They have issues with their broken beyond repair home-brewed engine.

Most people who played these games more that five minuets, knew it would be like this.

    They decided to ignore everyone.

Despite this the game has had success, which is more a testament to how bad gamers want a Good MMO, not because ESO did anything ground shaking.

ESO had some great people on board at launch. Some great Ideas too. Like open world justice system PvP announced in 2014that never happened. Spellcrafting also announced in 2014 and never happened. Mounts that had different abilities instead of just overpriced crown store horse reskins. Sadly those ideas were never realized and the game took quite a different direction.

There used to be gamemasters that actually spoke to you in game, fixed problems for you and hunted down bots with impunity sending them to the underworld.
    6xyPIqX.jpg
    PJ2DOtM.png

ESO PvP was the pinnacle of endgame. It featured hundreds of players on screen with good performance and no lag.

Yes taking a look at what we don't have now, and what we did, and could have had then, we can certainly see how far we've come.

Funny you mention that. 2Handed Mage used to be an amazing actually viable playstyle back in 2014. Look at this video.

Again, something we could do in 2014 that we cant do now. Competitive Hybrid builds were killed by the champion system and the removal of softcaps.

No, they used the Hero for early testing and level design, then they Macgyvered this mess together.... Havoc is just a Physics engine...and not a great one .

Then why is the Hero Engine in each version release credits? Why is there no credits for their own Engine instead of Hero? Their engine would be trademarked, which seems to be missing.

I think he meant a hybrid sorc. 2h and spells. Used to be possible and viable. Now with the removal of softcaps, you are really punished for any out of the box build that doesn't attribute stack.

O.O so much history with my Sorc healer. I remember when bird would kill it's self using it's ablity.

Performance has increased dramatically , though cydrolli...cough different story.

...whispers now we just need spell crafting.

Man in those days sieges and open world battles could be epic. These types of battles are rare now but there are some battles that can be pretty good by the game today.

You mean from the days of puppet jaws on npc's, everyone split up into champion level zones, and twilight with regen able to tank world bosses? heheh.

We have come light years from those days, and a good job they have done.
This one looks forward greatly to what may come next.

Such as enabling our pets to follow us around in our houses perhaps?

As there wasn't a Warden class, back then, I played a Sorc, with a bow, when I first played for a few months, at launch.

As I had previously played a hunter in WoW.

It was not good, even back then - staff was always far easier and more effective.

I didn't make it to max level, though - laptop I had couldn't really handle the game, so I had to leave.

Sorry, but there's nothing epic in any of those videos. No one knows how to play, therefore the server isn't stressed. It's full of slow moving light and heavy attackers playing at 5 fps.

I mean, Angry Joe is level 15 with one ability slotted on his backbar and people talk like it's the best PVP the world has ever seen.

The glory days of ESO were when we didn't know better. The truth is the game was launched broken and parts of it were never fixed and therefore have never worked properly.

The infamous lighting patch was update 2 (1.2.3) which went live on June 23, 2014.

Here are a sample of forum posts with the terms cyrodiil and lag before then:

I didn't watch the video but I figured that's what he was talking about. I was just being snarky. BTW, it'll never be possible again because it's too hard to balance, hybrids that is. The dumbing down of classes and abilities and making CP/gear OP is easier to balance than individual classes, let alone hybrids. That probably makes combat balance devs curl up in a corner.

I was not around at that time, but it seems that the game made many calculations at your client then. The problem is it was easy to cheat that way, since it only required to modify the client's calculations on your computer. ZOS changed that and moved them back at the server to fight the cheaters and hackers, but this made the server slow - although it also made harder to cheat.
