Poison versus weapon enchant

So, you can apply a poison, which replaces the weapon enchant.

Is there a straightforward opinion on which is better? Or is it all kinds of situations that vary?

Depends on the situation and poison.

Enchants are only and exlusively better, when using infused. Otherwise, enchants are always inferior to poison.
I have often compared destruction enchants and damage poison. With infused, the enchants outperform the poison damage.

Poison also gets signficanly less viable, against enemies that have poison immunity. For example Wood Elves and Argonians are immune to poison. This means they can not be affected by the poisoned damage over time status effect that poison can often apply, they still suffer from the base poison damage though.

The benefit of poison, is that you can use them alongside sharpened and nirnhoned weapon traits. Which also buffs your base damage. Non-destruction enchants like absorb magicka/stamina are much less potent and are compareable to poison dps.

Interesting position; so poisons are better, because infused has a cost of another enchantment like boosting the mundus.

I would say poisons are more effective (assuming you're using a good one) but have higher upkeep than enchants. So as usual, it's a give and take situation.

I don't think I can follow you. I assume you speak about infused armor. Infused armor boosts body enchantments. But I spoke about weapon enchantments and yes, they too are stronger with infused and actually only viable with infused if you ask me.

Cant have a argument when you lack evidence. Poisons arent necessarily stronger. If you have a poison on and no weapon abilities are being used you have a 20% chance on light attacks only, from a game that lags so much light attacks sometimes dont even hit:) Enchants are reliable damage and proc the second they are ready, no RNG required:) you may attack a target and have terrible RNG and a poison wouldnt have procced once, when a enchant would have provided consistent damage:)

I was paraphrasing what I thought you posted - I didn't say "armor". I was also talking about infused weapons.
