Damage Shield Capped for X% Maximum Health, Bastion CP is Now Useless

After #NerfMire, I stopped playing Magicka Sorcerer DPS.

With 17k Health and 55K Magicka, I am getting maximum damage shield of 8.5k regardless of points using on Bastion.

Bastion is pretty much useless CP now for a DPS.

How dare you think that a wizard should use magic to protect themselves! Murkmire is simply trying to instruct you to be a warrior (push health and resists) instead of a mage. Oh. . . wait. . . . ;)

    It's a terrible change.

I'm.now more tanky as a sorc lol. I've lost damage / sustain to compensate.

Before i was yolo glass cannon no impen, pop when wards down dead. Now I'm harder to kill with wards down all that changed is i wasted a ton of mats on impen gear lol

    Oddest change ever.

I've said this before, but I'll repeat it here. If I only use hardened ward and dampen magic in PvE I'll still hit the 50% cap even with 0 points in Bastion (with less than 40k magicka and around 17k health), so you're right Bastion is pretty much useless for a DPS in PvE land, but it is still useful for other playstyles since all other damage shields that do not have an explicit cap are still decently affected by Bastion. For instance, Bastion will still improve the Iceheart set's damage shield, the restoration staff skill Steadfast Ward's damage shield, the support ultimate Barrier's damage shield, etc.

Witchmother's Potent Brew (Increase Max Magicka by 2856, Max Health by 3094, and Magicka Recovery by 315 for 2 hours.
    • Trash Potions when feeling cheap: Regular CP150 Essence of Magicka pots that I obtain frequently from playing the game or Crown Tri-Restoration Potion obtained from dailies.
    • Crafted Potions: Essence of Spell Critical (Bugloss, Lady's Smock, and Water Hyacinth). Without magelight this is my primary means of obtaining Major Prophecy on my Sorc, which increases my Spell Critical Rating. This also heals and restores magicka. Essence of Immovability (Columbine, Corn Flower, and Wormwood). I use this in PvP, since this gives me stealth detection, knockback immunity, and restores magicka (better to use it when competent allies are nearby, since it might reveal that you are surrounded by multiple players in stealth and you will not have an emergency pot available after use). Essence of Invisibility with only 2 ingredients (Blue Entoloma, Namira's Rot, Nirnroot, or Spider Egg). I use this in PvE content that requires stealth and if I need more speed I'll use Rapid Maneuver before using the potion. Essence of Invisibility with 3 ingredients (Blessed Thistle, Blue Entoloma, and Namira's Rot). Very useful in PvP alongside the vampire Dark Stalker passive, since you'll be invisible, ignore movement speed penalty while in Crouch, and you'll have a 30% movement speed boost from Major Expedition (I always have this slotted when riding from point A to B in PvP land, since gankers are always lurking). My templar will mostly use Essence of Health (Tri-Stat Potion) Ingredients: (Mountain Flower, Columbine, and Bugloss).

I now put all those points into light armor focus and spell shield.
Bastion really is pointless now. Neither in pve nor pvp, it brings me anything.

Bastion should probably be changed entirely. Shattering blows should be adjusted from 25% to 15% damage against shields and bastion should give up to 15% less damage taken on shields. Since 15% passives scale horribly, most people would settle at 10%ish, as everything else would be a waste of points. I think 10% damage resistance on shields is helpful, but not overperforming.

Obviously the best way would be to raise shield caps. 40% on annulment ? That's pathetic. 60% would be more reasonable and would still leave room for bastion to boost values, for many builds anyway.

Bastion is pretty much useless CP now for a DPS.

It case it was missed in the hundreds of other Sorc forums threads ... and hundreds of "take CP out of bastion" posts:

ZOS wanted Sorcs to have a trade-off between damage and protection. ZOS did not want Sorcs with both high damage output and high damage-resisting shields (resulting from a high magicka pool).

My Magicka Sorc didn't like the changes either.

But, some Sorc players are able to adapt and move on ... while others are still stuck in September 2018 (when the changes were announced).

This thread is way late to the party.

Yet Sorcerers did not need these adjustments. Sorcerer damage was neither great in pve, nor pvp. In fact, it has been horrible for the longest time in pvp. They have no sustained pressure and their burst is obvious and has been nerfed many times. Directly as well as indirectly.

So Sorcerers never needed any of this. The old ways allowed them to stack some damage stats in order to be able to maintain a decent kill potential. But that has gotten even worse now.

If you are running too much shields in PVE then there is no DPS you are going to do,

as Magicking Sorc DPS rely on Ward as Damage Shield.

Bastion may be helpful for healers etc. but i doubt they mostly put any CP there, in a broader view this CP is a waste now.

I would go so far as to say it was always a waste. You get way more protection from Ironclad, thick skinned, elemental defender and Hardy. If you have the correct points into these, you get ~33% damage reduction that applys to wards AND heath, passively. Put all the extra points into quick recovery, makes you tankyer as well. All my toons have 8% into it.

The fix for this problem is to allow bastion to bypass the 40% of max health cap shields have now. by a certain amount at very least.

Playing your character the way your character should play is all that matters. Play as well as you can but never betray the character. Doing so would make playing an mmoRPG pointless.
