Ysgramor's Birthright "Control test?"

I just did a "control test" for Ysgramor’s birthright to see if it was working as intended and if it was better than Julianos when it comes to frost. All purple 160cp gear apart from staves which are level 1 white with no enchants or traits.

(notes: I did not have any attributes or passives or CP points put into anything and had no buffs active or any potions or food or mundus stones)
all gear was in divines because the pts automatically put them in divines so i did that to the Juli i crafted, and i also matched the yellow magicka enchantments on all of them. Jewels were all ysgramor's.

I had julianos and ysgramor’s. And what i did was i removed 1 set piece juli gloves/ ysg waist to see the tool tip numbers as they both had the same enchantment value.

Values of frost skills (which have been morphed to get the maximum damage to try and erase any weirdness but also so that they don’t buff other skills, for this reason i used permafrost over northern storm)

Key:
Y4p: Ysgramor’s Birthright is at only 4 pieces, Julianos is at its full 5.
J4p: Julianos is at only 4 pieces, Ysgramor’s Birthright is at its full 5.
Both Sets: Both sets are at full 5 pieces.
(notes: the listed value, unless specified is always frost damage.)

Normal skills:
Winter’s Revenge:
Both sets: 690
Y4p: 576
J4p: 602

Crystallized Slab:
Both sets: 1381
Y4p: 1152
J4p: 1205

Frozen Retreat:
Both sets: 2139
Y4p: 1787
J4p: 1869

Force Pulse:
Both sets: 826 Frost, 702 Flame and Shock (880 Magic on nearby debuffed enemies)
Y4p: 691 Frost, Flame and Shock (866 Magic on nearby debuffed enemies)
J4p: 723 Frost, 599 Flame and Shock (750 Magic on nearby debuffed enemies)

Blockade of Frost:
Both sets: 668
Y4p: 558
J4p: 583

Frost Reach:
Both sets: 1604 initial, 2125 DoT
Y4p: 1340 initial, 1780 DoT
J4p: 1402 initial, 1855 DoT

Frost Ring:
Both sets: 2142
Y4p: 1790
J4p: 1872

Ultimates:
Icy Rage:
Both sets: 2702
Y4p: 2257
J4p: 2361

Permafrost:
Both sets: 1425
Y4p: 1191
J4p: 1245

Ice Comet:
Both sets: 5306 initial, 1537 DoT
Y4p: 4433 initial, 1284 DoT
J4p: 4637 initial, 1343 DoT

Findings:
At least on these specified morphs, the Ysgramor's Birthright Set DOES have an effect. however it is slightly different to what is specified on the 5 piece bonus (Adds X Spell Damage to your Cold Damage abilities.). According to Force Pulse, it ACTUALLY does this: "Adds X Spell damage to your Skill's Frost Damage". I would assume it acts the same way with Silk's Of the Sun, Netch's Touch and War Maiden too. This set is not bad in of itself, but is let down by the lack of good frost damage skills which is outside of it's control.

If you want me to post the other Morphs, say so and ill do it.

Totally read this as “Ysgramor’s birth control test.” I need coffee...

Anyway, could be worth trying on a frost Warden BG build. :D

Jeez, yeah might need that coffee lol.

I am trying it over torugs pact on my pvp magden. i use Permafrost, Force Pulse, Winter's Revenge and Frost Blockade so it can have a fit there. but i wanted to test its values on pts because i saw another post say it's a bad set because i still don't think it actually is one

I find that any set that doesn’t boost raw spell/weapon damage tends to be (unfairly, IMO) dismissed. A good example of this is Innate Axiom. On a character whose primary damage skills are class-based (e.g. magsorc), it’s nice having a consistent and reliable +400 spell/weapon damage added to those skills without having to deal with RNG “10% chance” BS. If you build around sets that boost specific types of damage, as you’ve done with your magden, they can absolutely be competitive. Those players who don’t make their own builds and blindly copypasta their favourite streamers’ builds will still call it trash — even when they die to it — because they cannot think/test for themselves.

i liked axiom on hybrids. its a cute little set with a lot of potential

They are definitely fine and not dismissed in PvP. StamNB with innate axiom can be devastating. DKs can often run silks too.

Although not so much in PvE.

Is there even an actual difference between Cold and Frost? Are they really two different dmg types?

PVP damage was decent on warden with Winterborn and (mostly) frost AOE abilities. But I found sustain and survivability to be quite low on that setup, even on a highelf. I really wanted it to work, but I'll keep looking.

I would stay away from Winterborn. The DPS isn't there. Well, it's straight trash in PVE compared to other sets, but maybe PVP is different. I would try stacking Ysgramor's Birthright with another set you like.

winterborn is good for themes in stuff like solo pve and dungeons, but not trials.
