How does ZOS determine par times for end game content like vBRP?

A question posed by a friend recently, we became curious about this. Through previous streams, members of the dev team couldn't complete veteran scale caller peak hard mode post "bug fixes", I doubt they can do the harder trials. This is not bashing the devs, as is it common for game devs to not be very good at their own game, but this goes back to the original question. Was a random number chosen? Or was there some sort of basis to the determined time? Personally, I believe the par time for vBRP at 40 minutes is hard to reach for a traditional (1 dedicated healer) team composition running hard mode (no sigils), the run times and number of unchained groups should be a good indication of this.

    The par time is used in determining the score bonus that you get for completing the trial/arena. I know others know the math of it, but if you're right at the par time, you get 100% of the points. If you're 20% over, you'd get 80% of the points. It's something around there.

    How they determine it? *shrug* They might just guess at how long they'd expect it to take.

    Haven't done vBRP much yet, but never really had an issue with any 4 man content with 1 healer in the group in regards to par time. Usually it's absolutely no problem to even be 10 minutes faster if you just don't wipe. From the few vBRP runs I've done it doesn't seem like it's particularly long.

    The lacking of Unchained groups is heavily due to the lacking of endgame interest lately. I don't think it's because nobody else can do it atm.

    Most likely. I know many solid players and constantly ask them to form progression groups with me, but they just don't want/don't care.

    Yeah I kinda agree. My team got it to the point where we did it in ~32 minutes after kinda short progression but then we've totally lost interrest. Getting Unchained title is definietly not that hard as many people may think after looking at current number of players with that title but vBRP and generally whole game in this update feels slightly off-putting which lowers the amount of people that even try to get it.

    Also vBRP rewards feels kinda underwhelming , skin is propably the ugliest one from all obtainable through group content , difference between perfected and non perfected weapons is marginal , sets obtainable from arena can be also obtained from Murkmire zone and blue jewelery can be ontained from normal mode arena and then improved to purple which makes vet mode even less desirable. If Zenimax would add 1 golden jewelery piece for doing arena without sigils and 2 golden jewelery pieces for doing unchained that would be good start.

    When it comes to top scores curently teams with tank+3 DD and tank+heal+2 DD have basicly the same scores (couple of seconds difference) and I would even say that teams with healer have slightly easier job when it comes to getting unchained title.

    I love how ZOS wanted to make healers more useful last patch, yet game mechanics continue to encourage you to play without them.
