House, if you are into that sort of house that is..
I dont understand why you would be unsure of which is the better investment? Are you really that interested in a bunch of potions, and un-gemmable dyes?

I would say go for the house, if furnishing houses is your thing.

If you also really long for some Crown Crate items, or for Crown Crate Gems, I would recommend using gold if you have enough of it.

No one else can tell you what you would prefer.

...and as for crates, I've had one good experience, where I got two epic mounts (I didn't want), amongst other things and two not so good experiences, where I got nothing of any real note (maybe one pet I wanted, at most) and had to buy the rest with traded-in junk.

Can't say I would, therefore, call them an "investment".

But, then, an in-game house isn't really an investment, either.

You either get something substantial, permanent, and guaranteed, or you get a handful of random, rng driven uncertainty where the chances of looting gets much worse the better the item it is.

If you cant buy both, then get the house.

If the reward center of your brain needs to be stimulated, then go with the crates.

    I would choose the house.

    Buy neither.

Taking your money to Taco Bell and buying a whole bunch of Nachos Bell Grande then sitting on the toilet in excruciating pain for the next twelve hours will be a better investment and, as opposed to the crown crates, you’ll know the result before you start.

House. With it you know what you´ll be buying. With scam crates you will likely end up with useless potions, and costumes and pets you don´t want and that will be stuck in you collections tab.

Gamble box bad. Go house or somesuch, in my opinion. Though honestly we don't know if the snowglobe house is going to be available for in-game gold like the witch's cottage, so maybe delay purchase until we know more?

The first rule of crown crates is "never pay money for crown crates." ;) The current season only just started and it's not going anywhere anytime soon, so you don't have to worry about buying them right now. Meanwhile, the house will go away when December ends. Incorporate that in your decision.

Then again, the house is kinda meh. Exteriors are cluttered; the hall is taking the entire house so you have to live in the cellar; and the sky is made out of tent tarp. Ask yourself: do I really want to live in a place like that, or is this something I will enter once or twice before forgetting it forever? ;)

Personally, I'd say hold on to your crowns. ZOS expects you to buy both, and that alone is a good enough reason to buy neither. Defy the expectations AND save your money. Double win.

...but, there are the new dragon frogs.

    I love them. :D

    Also, two types of chicken...

I put the chickens in the loft of my crafting barn, in Old Mistveil.

One of them lays golden eggs and the other one lays fire.

    What more could you want?

You used the word 'investment' so I'd go for the house, which is forever. Crown crates can offer temporary fun or buyer's remorse, investment is not a word I'd use for crown crates. Good luck with your decision. I've got the Snow Globe house. I didn't intend to get that house, but.. I love it and I'm really happy that I have it... if that helps...
