Negate is often used to stun the Trash before the Archcustodian in vHOF and to suppress Gargoyles stomp in vHRC HM.

I know a guy. Hes the endboss of BRP and but he is not using it very effectively. Dont think he even managed to clear any dungeon as of yet...

Even as a sorc tank myself, negate is pretty useless in PvE content to me.

Yeah, it has more niche uses than in pvp but it’s definitely useful in those scenarios, including:
    -Preventing enemy aoes (gargoyle/troll stomps)
    -Removing enemy aoes (llothis poisons)
    -Huge stuns (arena/trial trash fights)

There are so few things it affects in PvE I don't see why anyone would.

Most trash pulls don't need it, and bosses are immune.
    Playing since beta...

Stopping Gargos stomp in HRC is the probably only usage for it I saw myself.

Stamina Sorcerers do for AOE damage. As it silences enemies, it also procs the Ruffian (WHILE USING DUAL WIELD ATTACKS Gives you a 15% damage bonus when attacking stunned, immobilized, disoriented, or silenced enemies.) passive on enemies that can be silenced. Other than that, difficult trash fights can be made extremely easy with the long duration AOE stun/silence such as Moon Hunter Keep execute phase on last boss. But rarely seen because most people play NB DPS for the last few patches.

    Pretty much this.

Also sometimes when i tank with sorc i use it too for trash as a 2nd ulti (with Warhorn for bosses), but still tend to use Atronach more often for the buff to the dps. So kinda situational use, but occasionally yeah.

vHRC HM is the only place I have seen it used. To stop the gargoyle point. One more is a poor healing ult and, like many class ults, there are better damage ults in PvE.

Used it for HRC, not since its bugged (well at least had 2 runs in HRC this patch where it simply didnt affect gargoyles anymore). Kinda useful on some trash (moonhunter, brp comes in mind) but it feels too situational. Needs some flavor or actually be useful to silence enemies (kinda like the interaction with gargoyle is/was)

To add to the above, I've also seen it used for the spinning aoes in AA, and the crem guard's breath in vMA.

I do only do content somewhat easier than the examples other people are mentioning, and I never use Negate.

One of the new dlc dungeons has these troll like dudes who just uber smash everything. Granted, I round em up with my tank and move them away from the boss and inner fire the boss. But see, people think the aoe circles grant free candy or something and they like to hang out in them. If negate works on those slams, then yes. Yes, everyone please use it.

I've used it on the vamp boss in BRP, removes that AOE she drops on tank (forget the name), but typically tank can put it in a good location so its not really neccessary

Just rotate around the Daedra when they start breathing fire.

It's useful in VMA on a few bosses. Second round boss is most obvious example. You can negate and nuke 1 of them before he has a chance to shield up. Of course, if your damage is high enough, you dont need it.

It can be nice for removing some AoEs, like a really badly placed Llothis poison circle. I’ve also used it a few times to prevent a wipe in trials, particularly vCR where it will stun all the Yaghra and shadows and heal you while you rez people. The Absorption field morph can also supplement healing, but it’s not a particularly strong option (inferior to Nightblade and Warden healing ultimates, and less healing than Templar although it doesn’t lock you into a channel).

There's a few trash mobs in vet mazzatun I'll use it on, especially the pull right after Xal-Nur because the s&b enemies can 1 shot dps or healers pretty easily. Same with vet Fang Lair, those enemies that enrage everyone else can be obnoxious, so stunning everyone can make it a bit easier. Also during Vykosa's fight, negating the werewolf adds can make the fight a lot more manageable.

When it actually does what you think it's going to do (stun every enemy in the field and remove AoE), it's great. Since the damage component is so low, if it can't do those 2 things, then it's really not useful.

Just kill it before it starts breathing fire.

That’s pretry much VMA in a nutshell. Kill it before it does, well, anything. Haha

Used to use it only on hm vHRC to suppress Gargoyles. Then ZOS managed to make it bugged even there so the gargoyles just ignore it.

Now it's fully unslotted and unlearned since months, that's how much it's useful.

Also I have already passed this issue along so hopefully we shall see a fix or something :)

    VMHK HM .
Yup , negate at wolves phase if we have sorc in the team .
Otherwise , healer needs to run ice staff backbar and slot time stop .

It's like a less useful timestop that costs ulti instead of magica right?

I main a sorc and no, I don't use it in PVE, ever.

I don't use it in PVP either, because any player worth silencing is running a stam build anyway and why waste my ulti on doing nothing to them.

It is hard to balance silence abilities as a general MMO rule. ZOS answer to this appears to have been to not try at all and basically make their silence do nothing at all in most situations despite it's very high cost.
I am currently worried for the future of ESO. Population seems like it is in free fall and the cancellation of the North America in-person gathering feels very much like pulling the plug. Kudos on fixing the in-game economy though. Clearly whatever gold shenanigans were happening the last couple years are fixed.

Rarely, but I do use it when there’s adds to be stunned, like in Moonhunter Keep. Or maybe negating a gargoyle’s pound. Otherwise, it’s more for pvp.
    For the love of Kyne, buff sorc. PC NACP 2100+Star-Sïnger - Khajiit Magicka Sorc - EP Grand Overlord - Flawless Conqueror vMA/vBRP/vDSA no death/vHel Ra HM/vAA HM/vSO HM/vMoL HM/vHoF HM/vAS +2/vCR+3/vSS HMs/vKA HMs/vVH/vRG Oax HM/vDSR

    This !

Is it Negate from Borrowed Time or Soldier of Anguish ? Or Negate Magic ?

I guess it is the Negate Healing effect. Could be useful when soloing Banished cells or similar with healing bubbles and low ranged dps. But defile might be better due to the long casting time.

For my Templar it is a funny thing in PvP. This thing works for the enemies :) ha ha
