What did the deceased free crates represent to you?

Title says it. What was your opinion on them?

For me, it was option 1. If it was a season I really liked, I'd go and buy a few more, be it with crowns or gold.

Also, please keep it constructive!

Rip free crates.

My only shot at the crates. It's not that I dislike them, I just have a limited income of crowns or other priorities to buy with them.

They might bring them back next month. They never said they'd be available every month. This month we get a mount, which is pretty awesome.

The grinch took my crates.... Actually, both options 1 and 4 worked for me: 1 because I could see if I wanted to buy more (yes, I have plenty of disposable income) - so I knew I didn't want Hollowjack for sure for instance.... SO not my thing. But Scalecaller etc. yes; 4 because for those rare occasions where I got duplicate items, I could make gems out of them, to buy something else really cool when I had enough.

So yeah. ESO went all grinch on me.... NOT happy ATM.

Pre-release, a way to get just enough gems to purchase my most-wanted non-Apex item out of the entire season.
Post-release, usually just duplicates. Including my most-wanted non-Apex item. Occasionally more than once.

I got some neat stuff from them. I also got a lot of gems. I have never been tempted to buy any. If we never get any more, I won't miss them. If they give us more, that's OK too.

ZOS has decided they want to give away less free crates right now. That's the only thing I know for sure. I could guess at their reasoning, but it would only be a guess. Maybe there will be more in January, maybe not.

If I want crates, I'll buy them with gold and have them gifted so I'm not personally giving them any money, but that transaction would lead to income for ZOS from someone.

When I got them, I opened them but I've never been wow'ed by the contents. It's usually stuff I won't use so I convert it all to gems which I also never use. In the past I have scored rare apex mounts (like the Ebon Dwemer senche) & after one game session of riding it around, I pretty much forget about it.

Somewhere I have a post about how I'm up on the casinos by $79 and change.... I grew up in Vegas. I KNOW who built the casinos and it wasn't me.

I don't view the crates that way though, because I've got so much cool stuff from them since late June. I haven't yet made the list - I'll get it done eventually. Of course, I don't know now how many free crates I got, and how many I bought - didn't occur to me to keep track!

I'm impressed! I'm probably up on the casinos a little bit over the few times I've spent in them, if only because I tend to quit when I hit a very minor jackpot. Then again, I'm a lot more loss averse than your average human ;)

I've gotten a couple of cute pets from the free crates and an outfit or two, but not enough to induce me to plunk down my ESO+ crowns for them. They just seem so expensive. I've become an outfit addict instead.

Who cares - free trash or free boxes full of free trash.

If I enjoy the game, I play - if I play a decent amount, I subscribe.

Free crates, log-in rewards, tiny statues, whatever - makes no difference to me.

They were freebees, not entitlements. I was grateful for what I got from them, to be sure, but after all is said and done it's just stuff.

I'm not one to look gift horses in the mouth, nor will I b*tch and moan when I don't get free stuff -- stuff I didn't earn.

i buy crates shamelessly. as long as my savings have increased by the right amount over a period of time, i can consider some income disposable. after the necessities of work, sleep, and reading, ESO is probably my 4th-most time-spender. since they've kept my attention so long, i've saved money on buying systems and games. i don't mind contributing to keeping it all going.i buy as many crates as i feel like, until i've gotten the cosmetics i want from them.

so the free crates just saved me a dollar or something. i could probably save a lot more if i didn't hoard the Crown Gems. i'm better at saving than spending, and i'm generally uncomfortable with gambling, so the crates give me a taste of some of those gambling thrills i'll never truly know. an extra 2 or 3 a month was a nice little drop in a bucket of fun.

I strongly disliked them. For me they represent everything that is wrong with the current approach that ZOS is taking to ESO.

I am glad they are gone. I do feel sad for the people who really liked them.

I liked the crates as a little preview of what was coming in that season. A few gems from junk, a little taste of good stuff. The drop rates I got from the free 'preview' crates (as I saw them) often influenced my decision on how much more other crates I would get once that season began. Seemed like a 'good will' sort of thing -- 'see what you could get if you got some crates!'

I did really like the ones in the login rewards too, but as they were from seasons already released, there was a good chance I already had everything I wanted from them, so they were more a source of gems than anything else. I like gems.

I'm that person who can't run through a dungeon or delve and leave an unopened container behind. Reason is I enjoy the "Lucky packet" effect of not knowing what I'm getting. With crates, the effect of mediocre content is mitigated by collecting crown gems from reclamaition. In the end I could look forward to maybe purchasing a nice mount every 3 or 4 months. That being said, I do not give in to the temptation of actually buying crown crates. So I lose a little free enjoyment but nothing that I regard as tragic.

I usually budget exactly how much I'm going to spend on a season, no more, no less. But with free ones they tend to edge me more towards maybe buying more than I planned, especially if it's from a returning crate season that I didn't buy into the first time around, like Scalecaller. I really regret not getting the mount I want from SC, and with both my free crates a wiff it was really tempting to buy a couple more. I only battled it down because I know I'm going ham on the xanmeer ones.

I just don't understand how crates missing from one month all of a sudden means they are gone for good. Multiple threads RIPing them. But not one single source of an official statement saying they are gone for good. Given that they were never a promised to begin with I would assume they will probably be back at some point in the future. My guess will be next month but until they say so I wouldn't assume anything is official.

A modification of the third choice. My only shot at crates, I simply do not care about them otherwise. If they want to hand out free *** that’s fine with me, and I’ve gotten some really nice rewards from them and saved up gems. But I will never, ever spend money on crown crates. It’s so bad for the health of the game, and more than anything perpetuates the idea that ZOS can take your money and most of the time offer you absolutely nothing in return.
