Why isnt the NA server on NA timezone :(

its 4pm PST on the 1st and i just got home from work and i logged in to play and i already cant get the last day rewards because we are on day "2"..

There's a lot more times in the NA timezones than PST. The rewards reset at 7pm EST (which is part of NA).

ok but 7PM EST is only mid evening.. what am i supposed to play this game at 5am to get my reward? the days should switch at 12am midnight on EST or PST or whatever..

i played yesterday for like an hour.. but yesterday was the LAST DAY OF NOVEMBER.. i even got the reward yesterday when i logged in.

ZOS actually did a really good job explaining the reset times for both the Undaunted event tickets and the reward boxes.

The reset is midnight UTC. For the East Coast that would be 7 PM or 4 PM Pacific. So if you stop playing before 4PM and don't start playing until after 4PM the following day you will miss a reward. It also means it is still the last day of the month when the new month begins (i.e. 11/30 after 4PM PST is 12/1 UTC).

Edit: These times are for standard time it becomes 8PM Eastern and 5PM Pacific during daylight savings as UTC stays the same year round.

Welcome to the MMO market then. Most of the MMOs out there have their time working with basic EU timezones. I suppose it is only fair when the NA servers get a lot more attention and care from the company.

Well, doing it at midnight UTC instead of midnight ET means that it is always at the same time and people only need to take into account their own Daylight Saving Time/Summer Time/Whatever Time.

They reset at 7pm every day, regardless of when you picked up your last reward. Trust me, I pick up those rewards all the time just before and after 7pm back to back if I didn't already log on earlier.

I'd suggest you add a UTC clock to the display on your desktop so you can keep track. This is a global game world now - everything runs off UTC - including the daily rewards. Right now, they're happening for me at 5pm MT which is an hour earlier than on DST. But I run that UTC clock on my desktop, so I can check what they're really doing. UTC is -7 now for me, and -8 during DST.

Thing is, you need to get a handle on time zones. It's a global economy - you might eventually be offered a job in EU (if you live in NA) or NA (if you live in EU). Understanding how UTC interfaces with US and EU time zones can make your life easier overall, not just in a game. When my daughter and her family lived in EU, and regularly traveled all over the place, I had about half a dozen clocks on my screen.

I never did get used to mil time though.... sorry.... too old I guess.

To be precise, it's set on coordinated universal time, not EU time zones. It's a system that greatly simplifies chronological calculations with respect to international locations, much as the universal transverse mercator system standardizes locating points on Earth.

Imagine they moved the time to an US standard, then ppl would still complain that it is not their time zone, since there are several ones.

Entirely true. While many people in the US seem to think the rest of the world revolves around us, that's far from the case. I have website clients all over the world. If I didn't have UTC clocks on my desktop.... well, I wouldn't be a good manager at all. The fact that being a good manager helps with my game play time - +1 for me!

For a game that attracts players from all over the world, any developer worth their salary will set the server clock to UTC and store all timestamps in UTC.

Anything else, and you have a major headache on your hands trying to juggle all the possible time-zones, time offsets and daylight savings differences.

Resetting at midnight UTC is the sensible thing to do ...

Just spit-balling here, but I'm guessing a change to anything except standard UTC would not only present a major coding headache, but may not even be possible. ESO is based on a variety of languages for graphics, data, and scripting, and if even one cannot handle localized conversion from UTC, local standard time, and local daylight savings time we'd experience a monumental thud as the game crashes everywhere owing to synchronization issues.

there is NO REASON to move to the next day at 4pm local time..

i missed the last day reward last month and couldnt figure it out since im sure i played every day, but it said the reward changed before the time ran out and now i know why..

im seriously not happy for missing out on the last day of these rewards because i live in an area where if i wanted to play i have to wake up at 5am or get off work before 3pm to run home to catch the first day or not sleep and play at night.

Well, I think you've left out Mountain Time and are forgetting that not all regions use Daylight Savings Time(DST); moreover, DST may be federally regulated, but it's by no means carved in granite. You're also presuming it's snap your fingers simple to convert from a server based on UTC to one based on a localized configuration.

Yeah but the NA server is in Texas which is in US.

It's just crazy when you play a game based in us on the NA server which is pretty much the US server you have to schedule around Europe times..

Ironic considering the banner during maintenence does not have EU time zones listed, when it did ages back.
