What to I do with the Undaunted Key?

Davor
Davor
✭✭✭✭✭
I did my second ever dungeon today. I got an Undaunted Key as some loot. Never got one before. I didn't even knew they existed. So what do I do with it? Is it like a trophy and I just sell it? Should I hold onto it since it will unlock a door in an Undaunted cave that I can never do because I keep getting killed there?

In the tent (at the place where you hand in undaunted quests) you'll find three large chests.
You can use the keys on those and get a random shoulder piece of a monster set.
    The different monster sets are distributed across the chests - google to find out which is in which. (;

I suggest you wait with using the keys until your character is CP160.
That way the gear you get from the chest is end-level and useful for all your characters & throughout your adventures. :)

When you hit level 45, you get an invitation and can start picking up Undaunted Pledges at the Undaunted Enclaves (located just outside of Wayrest, Mournhold, and Elden Root).

There are 3 pledges you can pick up daily. Completing the dungeon, on normal or veteran difficulty, grants you a key when you turn in the quest. Completing the dungeon on hard mode grants you 2 keys.

There are 3 chests at the enclave you can open with those keys. Each chest will drop a random Monster Shoulder from the dungeons associated with that chest's pledge giver (e.g., Glirion Redbeard's chest will reward monster shoulders from the dungeons in his pledge rotation.)

Also useful to know; you'll get a monster helmet when completing a veteran dungeon, if you want to complete a set. :)

Thank you so much for the help and tips.

I have been playing for a few years. I never recall the game asking me to do undaunted pledges. How do I do that? I am CP 180ish and except for yesterday I usually play this game single player. I tried to do the Undaunted cave in Auridon but never get qued in so I gave up anything Undaunted.

I can do Undaunted quests even if I didn't do the first cave? (sorry keep forgetting the name. the one that is north top of Auridon.)

    I gather you're under level 45?

At 45, you'll get a quest starter that explains all this, assuming you do the quest.

Giving keys as loot prior to CP160 was not exactly the brightest implementation they could have come up with.

No, my main is level 50 and 180ish CP. Come to think of it, thank you for the reminder, because of the Vardenfell bug early this morning, I couldn't use that character and I think my character who got the key is level 35. Since I play with my main mostly, can I put the key in the bank and have my main get it?

I don't recall this quest. What is it? Sadly my memory is so bad, I might have done this quest and not even know it was an Undaunted quest. Are these repeatable?

The first quest the Undaunted give you, sends you to the Banished Cells I dungeon in Auridon. :)
You'll need to find three other people to join you in order to complete it, easiest way to do that is ask in zone or guild chat.
Queuing for a specific dungeon in group finder works as well, but can take significantly longer.

After you complete that initial quest, you can pick up three daily Undaunted pledges at the Undaunted Enclave.
For AD, that's in Elden Root, Grahtwood.

    Usually, you receive an in-game mail notifying you about the Undaunted. You might be able to pick up the quest from;

Turuk Redclaws in Vulkhel Guard, Auridon - Begins Banishing the Banished.
Mighty Mordra in Spindleclutch, Glenumbra - Begins Deadly Whispers.
Kailstig the Axe in Davon's Watch, Stonefalls - Begins Kings of the Grotto.

Depending on your main alliance if that matters.

The quest is named "One of the Undaunted", you should be able to pick it up from Turuk Redclaws.
(If you abandoned it). He's in the Salted Wings Tavern in Vulkhel Guard.

Yes, you can put the key in the bank for your higher level character.

As for doing the Undaunted quest, I didn't do the dungeon. I just went in and talked to someone and left and it cleared the quest to the next stage.

Btw, you don't actually have to do the dungeon, just go in then out (ie: ride there where it is physically), and return to the quest giver.

    I respectfully disagree.

The events that award undaunted keys to below level 45 characters are extremely rare.

If you're one of those players that likes a full complement of leveling gear on Alts (including monster shoulders), then you'd want to use keys for those rare shoulder pieces. Especially for a player like me that does Vivec PvP on my level 20 Health Tank.

When you reach CP160, you're pretty much doing dungeons anyway to level up your undaunted or other goals. Keys flow freely at that point.

I just assume that very few people equip full monster sets on levelling characters. Maybe people who PvP in u50 campaigns?

As others have said, for the Undaunted quest that sends you to the first dungeon of your alliance, you just have to manually go into the dungeon and leave again, you don't need to complete it.

Oh, good. I have done that a long time ago by accident. I just followed the quest marker when it showed up. Didn't understand why it did it. I guess he just wanted to hear how scared I was and couldn't take it LOL. Good to know not doing Banishing Cells1 will not impact me at all.

As for being able to put the key in the bank, I can't. It will not let me. Oh well. Good to know once I ever get doing those dungeons, keys will be plenty. So I will use it.

Thank you all again for your help and tips.

i have had toons that did undaunted pledges i never turned the key in for. sure you can open the shest when you hit lvl 45 but wait until you are lvl 160 or it's a waste because you wont keep the gear unless it's lvl 160. hold onto it. cet cp 160 then use them.

Yep, as soon as a character hits level 50, they get all the CP that your account has accumulated. So if you have a CP 180 character, every char you level later will be at 180 CP once they hit 50, and their XP will go towards the common CP pool. You will never ever have a character again who is at CP30. ;)
Also, if you have CP, you can allocate them even on characters that aren't level 50 yet. Simply go to the CP menu on them, the points will be waiting for you, making life considerably easier.

Correction: you cannot bank keys - they are character-bound. You can save them and they stack though, at least from L50 onwards.

    Davor,
    Using a key gets you:
    1. a random monster set shoulder piece from a select group of dungeons, depending on which chest you choose
    2. various other loot items, e.g. soul gems
    3. a small chance of getting an Exemplary Harmony trait ring or necklace (for jewelry research, cannot be deconstructed)
    4. a small chance of getting a shoulder style page, if you use the correct chest. At the moment, if you use Glirion's chest, you have a small chance of getting the Troll King Shoulder style page. (Helm style page sometimes drops from killing last boss of Blessed Crucible in vet mode)

Oh I never thought about that, my characters just wear an assortment of junk until they finally hit level 50. But I suppose you're absolutely right! If you do want to be able to run somewhat competitive content, my junk-gear-approach probably won't be enough and using the key for a lower level character could really be worth it. :)
