I have always avoided the PvP gameplay mainly due to how toxic it was in EQ (and I seriously doubt behavior has improved in 20 years....) But I'm building a stamina tank(Xbox na) and figured I'd give it a shot for vigor/caltops. Raised a redguard dk to lvl 15 sword and board/bow all health and jumped into the under 50 bg deathmatch. I figured I'm just there for the AP and it's under lvl 50 so a tank build might be ok

First match no one is speaking, Mic is on, no group members near, boom I'm dead (two nightblades)and the battle is over. Guess I qued into the end of a battle? 2nd match group isn't speaking(mic works so dunno what's up) and I'm buffing, stunning, rooting got 4 kills, 15 assists and every time I died(6) and respawned I'd have the other two teams actually drop their target to gang up on me(still managed a kill muwahaha)

Point is this was GREAT. I have MUCH to learn still, but for anyone hesitant about PvP give it a shot. There may be toxic people there, it's fast and dirty, but freaking awesome even as a low, tank build. Rahmirez is going back!

I'm so glad you had a good time!

BGs is where I spend the majority of my time.

I'm also on Xbox (shenronnacht) if you need something crafted (and have mats lol) I can make it for you.

Thank you that's very generous but I have a crafter that's aaaaaalmost 9for9 traits on all. (i thinks that's the only way I actually survived lol. 5 hundings and 5 willows path all purple impen. With stamina glyphs one oblivion damage and bash glyph. Wasn't sure what to expect and figured that might work first time in)

Is there a separate queue for newbies, or perhaps, people who haven't PvPed???
    Just, uh... wondering...

I didn't see one but had read that under 50 was a bit more forgiving(maybe yes? Maybe no?)

    Alright, I'll note that...
I've always avoided PvP, cause... ah, well, I'm terrible at it, and I get easily frustrated to the point of yelling at my computer and cussing at myself.
One day! one day I will get into PvP. :D

Not really, you dont get lag in CoD unless your rig and net is crap.

But kudos to ya OP for trying PvP after a long time, glad you enjoyed it

Ive been getting into BGs a lot lately on my MagDen and its been super fun. I dont talk and neither do most people as well lol. But its a lot more fun that Cyrodiil for me at the moment.
But yes as a DK tank you can use a lot of your CC to help allies get the kills.

EDIT: I'm alone and all my characters are terribly built- for PvP, atleast.
I need to find a simple, hopefully surviveable DPS build/character... though I might have to delete one of my others. :D

BG are fun when you play with completely random people, but then there's people that are using their own voice chat and organised is not fun and most bg matches are like this for me. And they stay in formation so you can't single target them. And Im in no interests building my own team.

But cyro is much more fun when it comes to random people fights, ofc u get zergs but it's easy to avoid them, and u can oil them if they're coming to the keep. You get funny situation when like someones gets stuck on some texture while running away from you and you just *** them from a back  or when you place 5 oils and drop it when someone is raiding a keep killing 10 people when you were alone. So i bet you would have even more fun at cyro than bgs, bgs are NBs fest and bow spammers.

Just wait until you face a pre-made that coordinates its attack.

    Then the fun really begins.

I doubt you're going to find a "DPS build" that is survivable. Not in this current PvP climate.

You can go all defense and maybe live against a couple - maybe a few if they are poorly played. But other than that - prepare to either be the windshield or the bug.

Think I hit that on my 3rd. I managed 2 kills but several assists. We came in 2nd but one team was just slaughtering us. It was good teamwork on their end, and worst case it's only 15 minutes at a time. I might not shine on damage but I'm irritating the he** out of the opposition so it's still fun

First time for me too. I think pre 50 might be a totally different game. All I did was sword/shield, craft 5 hundings 5 willows path(purple impen. Well, one necklace green but not spending jewelry mats on lvl 14 gear) and jumped in. Even if you don't enjoy it, it's only a few minutes. I got to assault 4 before having to log in 3 matches.

Battlegrounds or just Cyro? cause I think I'd prefer Cyro.

See that's where we might be different. I haven't tried cyro, all I read is lag, zergs, horse simulator, noxious nightblades(sorry guys, just what I've read lol) and figured if I'm going to dip my toes I'd try battlegrounds first, and deathmatch as its straightforward. Kill the red guys and help your team. I also remember about 2 years ago I joined a campaign, rode around for an hour, didn't see ONE person(didn't know what I was doing either) and left, so I get the horse simulator reference.

I hear all that crap 'bout Cyro, yeah... but it's more spread out, versus BG... I'm not a very good player, so I'd just end up failing and pissing off my teammates.. :'(

I had fun, but I'm under no delusions that I'm good. I assisted my teammates, and did what a tank is supposed to do, *** off the enemy, but I doubt I'm anywhere near good. Had the same thoughts you do, but it's pre 50. No cp, battle leveled, and not many skill points. I've read about people hiding or afk just for ap and let the team fight. Just help and you're better than them

And just that easy I now have vigor, caltrops, "Battleground Butcher" and a new part of the game I enjoy in 24 hrs playing after work.

I DID see some of the pre made groups, but some that I thought were I'd see split opposite sides later. Just some really good players in here. Again, for those like me that have avoided PvP because of previous exp it's worth trying. The only thing I don't like is you don't get enough skill points vs pve questing(but then I usually hunt them before I do the starter island)
