In all MMOs what was your favorite classes to play and the ones you regret not trying?

As usual I was thinking of ways to make my magden more fun to play if I was running the show. Most of my combat abilities are kinda meh either due to animation delays, or just worthless as well as too much buffing... Anyway as I was thinking of his I was reminiscing about past classes I have played in other MMORPGs and what made me hang in there playing them for many years. I also began thinking about classes I should have played but ddin't either because of lack of time, character slots, or other reason. Come up with a short list of these are your reasoning of why or why you didn't play them. My list is the follow:

Favorite MMO classes
1. My favorite WoW Druid- I love this class so much! Being able to shapeshift into animals for some tankiness, dps, or utility as well as being able to use Hots for healing was pure fun. After playing this class (and of course some old school D&D) I've been trying to voice my opinion on having ESOs werewolf work off mag and stamina. At least then my magden could shapechange.
2. Daoc Druid- I really like this version of a druid class. I had heals, a choice of pets (which grew as you put points into them), CC in grappling vines type spell, HOT healing style.
3. Warhammer- Warrior Priest- Any class that I can heal my friends and still be in melee range fighting with a big hammer is a win. I remember beating down keep doors during keep takes and my healing was able to keep the majority of us up even during hot oil and death from above. I actually felt I was making a difference on the front lines.
4. Age of Conan-Bear Shaman- I liked this one even better than my warrior priest because it was a mix of that class and a druid feel. Pure awesomeness!
5. Lotro Loremaster- After playing my captain and dwarven guardian for quite a while I made my loremaster and there was no turning back. It some really cool looking spells, cool pets such as hawks/eagles and others. It had good CC too which is one of things I really enjoy when playing especially in a group setting. I normally play support and being able to lock up mobs while we are tackling others is fun to me.
6. COH/COV Storm Hero- my controller had a ton of cc and it was just fun using hurricane to knock back bad guys from our squishier teammates.
7. GW2 Mesmer- Illusionary abilities are so cool. Such a unique class!

Classes I wished I had played
1. Daoc Animist- I really really wished I would have tried out one of these guys. Such an original class that could lay down fields of plants/shrooms that could poison, stun, disrupt large areas. A friend of mine played one a bit and I was always jealous but leveling was slow in that game so I had to pick where to spend my time.
2. Daoc Valewalker- Another nature themed robe wearer but was a melee fighter with a scythe that had great animations IMO. It just looked cool.
3. Daoc Friar- Who can resist beating down foes with a staff and being able to do some light heals and buffs to boot. I had one of these but never got a chance to play him much. Another class with great combat animations. Watching and hearing your character parry and evade attacks made it that much more fun. Of course in Daoc we had reactionary attacks so being able to hear and see those animations were key to pulling off some cool counterattacks.
4. Warhammer Runepriest- The dwarven caster who through down runes to combat foes. A friend of mine played one and it always looked fun.
5. Lotro Beorning- This shapeshifter came way too late for me to try going back to check out.

Class I wish I hadn't spent so much time on

Daoc Blademaster- I spent a lot of time in the first two years trying to make my BM work. Sure he was fun to play since his animations were cool while fighting but as a DPS class he was at the bottom of the barrell and then some. His special ability which was only up like every 15-20 minutes was triple wiled where this green magical dancing sword sprung up in front of your character and fought with you (just added dmg). Sad thing was, amongst my nighty pvp group it was always the big joke when I fired up triple wield. My party members would be like oh damn he almost had enough damage to kill someone..so sad lol.I'm just hard headed and wanted to make it work. I heard years after I left they made triple wield and the BM actually decent. Go figure..

So what were yours?

About 12 years ago there was a terrific game, called Perfect World, which has long since gone horribly P2W. But back then I played a pet-taming Venomancer. When played well, it was a pretty strategic class, offering group buffs, and it was used extensively to pull bosses out of groups of mobs. That was my all-time favorite class, but it was nerfed and subsequent classes rendered it irrelevant. It seems game developers have one thing in common: they're all hellbent on destroying the best parts of their games and ruining player experience. ZOS, especially, has a very long history of doing this.

    1. Nature class
    2. Illusionist class

However, if the game has a tight combat system that rewards timing (like Dark Souls), I will typically go with a physical melee class.

Most fun pet class ever, of course in this game you could actually control pets, all six of them, unlike ESO.

Something about the skill rotation just felt and looked so right, so smooth. Even it's Jedi counterpart which was the same but with other animations didn't come close.

DAOC, Thane. Most fun in any game, and a great mix of offensive magic for range and weapons for melee.. Just a shame it was underpowered for so long.

SW:TOR. Vanguard? If I remember the name.. A Ranged tank, but had decent burst and good for kiting in PvP..

RIFT.. I can't remember what line it was, but I loved playing a very teleporty, highly mobile damage dealer in PvP.

Warhammer Online. Spent waaay to long playing KOTR, and trying to make it a viable damage dealer (with survivability and utility) in PvP. Wish I'd played warrior priest more.. But loves the shadow warrior.. Yeah, another underpowered class, but I loved the mobility(skirmish build), the ability to keep kiting while dealing constant pressure damage, with nice burst in melee..

    The ones I loved:
Everquest: Cleric. Sure, it wasn't exactly fast paced, but finding a group was never easier.
WoW: Rogue. I never did melee before that, but I first fell in love with stealth with my rogue. So many places that it was so useful.
SWToR: Imperial Agent. Stealth, healing, and the best class quests I've ever done. It was just fun.

Ones I wish I had tried more:
Everquest: Enchanter. Loads of crowd control, some of the best buff in the game, and a pet? Why didn't I play it more?

I've either played long enough to play all the classes or too short to really say.

    Favorites would be

Sniper/gunslinger in swtor. Positioning and turret damage with utility that just clicked with me.

Officer in SWG NGE near the end. Hindsight; might have been a tell that I would have liked engineering sniper in SWTOR but a bit more support to go with big AOE booms.

The one I wish I played more was right before SWG NGE, on my bounty hunter/ pistol/ fencer or whatever I had mixed. I'll never forget hanging out with my friends who were mostly pre-CU jedi the night before the NGE as a last hoorah. A polearmer (copy of a guy named Samjack which would be awesome to his old videos were still out there) was dueling all the regular jedi and was beating them up pretty bad. I was watching and noticed a pattern with when he would heal. So I dueled him, waited until I thought he'd heal then hit my knockdown and dropped him in seconds. Then wouldn't give him a 2nd chance because I knew he realized what I did. Should have just done it. A lot of us hung out until server shutdown just talking and hanging out at Bestine.

Ultima Online was my first mmo and I think I just would have played earlier.

I'm pretty sad I missed SWG. After Ultima I played a bit of EQ and then I believe I was playing Asheron's Call at the time of Star Wars. I've heard about all the great times prior to the NGE.

When you were talking about turrets and such it reminded me of another class I wished I would have played and that was in Warhammer. That was the Engineer. That class always looked fun with all of their turrets and gadgets.

The Thane was a very cool class and looked fun as hell dropping the lightning hammers. I didn't know anyone who played midgard but I tried a zerker for awhile. I ended up going back to where my friends and guildies were.

Favorite class on an MMO for me was Druid in WoW. Specifically, feral. I loved being faster than pretty much all other classes, being able to stealth,a nd the DPS rotation in PvE was a lot of fun. Priority over press 1 then 2 then 3.

Least favorite... hm. Machinist in FF Reborn, with a 'BUT'. I loved Machinist and it was my favorite class in that game... until you wound up hitting a certain level and suddenly your mobile, run-and-gun shooter becomes a friggin' nearly-stationary turret. They trained you all through leveling Machinist that you could move and pewpew and then suddenly in the mid 50s or so (back when the game only went to 60), you were given cast times for your abilities. Oh I hated it.
Pretty sure it's changed again now, but I don't play anymore.

Most wanted to try: EQ - Beastlord - MDPS? Check. Pet? Check. Shaman style spells? Check. Unique buffs? Check. Just sounds and feels like an overall fun class. It was a better version of wardens imo.

My all time favorite is WoW BC Shadow Priest , before Sunwell. Perfect balance between dps and support. Captain from LOTRO was quite fun as well. Commando/Mercenary in SWTOR was also great , but mostly I played my Marksman Gunslinger.

Here on ESO I honestly enjoy all the classes , but for PvE Healing Templar is my favorite , it was my second character and still is my main pve guy. For PvP right now it's my Mag Warden , swtich between heals and dps quite easily , helps the team , can hold it's on in a 1v1 scenario.

I pretty much always play every class in any MMO I happen to play and I at least try to log on every alt to do something with them from time to time.

Wow - hunter and warrior. Absolutely loved these two classes. My first was the hunter while the warrior was my raid rdy tank.

Tsw - this game was different since it didn't have actual classes then but I primarily used swords (tank) and assault rifles (heals). Loved the sword hammer (pure tank) build too.

    Least Favourites

Hated my Paladin. I just couldn't grasp the concept, even though I wanted to play as that holy warrior type.

In tsw, I didn't have any least favourite but I hardly used my Elementalist. Was boring af.

    Wanted to try

I wanted to try druids, should have given more time to him.

In lotro, I played abit of the rune master. I loved the concept and really wanted that in WoW and tsw, even in eso. But I guess it didn't materialised.

    Thoughts

There were other mmos that I played too, like wildstar and gw2 but didn't really stick out to me. Wished I had more time with Wild* but too bad, a good game went down in a whimper.

In eso though, my fav is the nightblade. And least favourite is the dk. Even though its a base class... I only have one dk and already two wardens. I guess I just don't understand how dks are good at.

I played every class there was in WoW and RIFT (only other two MMOs I've played). I actually liked all of them pretty well. My absolute favorite though was WoW's hunters. I miss them to this day.

I never played vampires, weres though. SO not my thing. I do love my khajiit in TES/ESO, but I "met" them LONG before WoW or RIFT came around. The one Argonian I've ever made.... eh, she's okay. She's not a favorite, but she's.... okay.

    Favorites:
    • Lineage II: Elven Fighter>Elven Knight>Sword Singer>Sword Muse (wasn't the same game anymore after GoD so I skip Iss Sword Muse :)): Unique group support, jack of all trades, fastest self-buffed movement speed, high variety of weapon types that could be used (one-handed sword, two-handed sword, dual swords, bow, dagger), armor sets and later dyes allowed for tankier or more dps-oriented builds :)
    • Ragnarök Online: Novice>Archer>Hunter>Sniper>Ranger: What's more fun than hunting enemies with a bow and a falcon or warg companion? Strong dps from a distance and you can catch enemies with traps. Could solo in the most dangerous areas of Glast Heim and deal damage to any enemy type with a Dex/Luk build.
    • Flyff: Vagrant>Assist>Billposter>Force Master: Great buffs for a group but can also solo well.
    • BDO: Ranger: The combat style I enjoyed the most (and looks really cool with hawk pets which unfortunately cost real money ><).
    • Granado Espada: Fighter: Decent damage and good survivability; very distinct stances.
    • Phantasy Star Online (on Gamecube): HUcaseal.
    • Silkroad Online: Pacheon bowmanship (I guess I just really like archery-based classes/skill-lines :))
    • World of Warcraft: I liked Nightelf Hunter for the ability to tame monsters, and Nightelf Druid for the versatility and mobility, but I didn't play for long.
    • Diablo 2 (technically not an MMOG, but I played it as much as an MMOG:)): Werewolf Druid, always in Hardcore mode :): I liked the combat style. Group buffs with Oak Sage or Heart of Wolverine, high health, high risk (depending on lifeleech; Iron Maiden curse ><), high movement speed and stamina, Elite Ribcracker killed Act bosses really fast ^^ (Blizzard Sorceress is my close second favorite class/build: Teleport; the cold spells look and sound great, deal a lot of damage and slow down enemies; also quite easy and comfortable to play :))
    • I unfortunately never got to play Everquest and Ultima Online for long.
    • Elder Scrolls Online: Dragonknight: At launch, it was a very versatile class with good survivability, that could be built to be a tank or a full dps, but could also offer unique and fun to use support buffs for allies (Fragmented Shield; Igneous Weapons which added bonus fire damage or Molten Armaments which granted a temporary boost to crit; Chains is still a great utility skill in PvE, but was amazing in PvP at launch; Wings were really fun to use both in PvE and PvP; Dragonblood was pretty OP :))

It always was easy for me to find my favorite class so I have no regrets ^^

    Favorite Classes:
Minstrel - LOTRO. I loved this class before the game switched to trait trees, especially in the Rise of Isengard expansion. I also loved it before they removed the ability to slot medium armor and fixed the Song of Soothing force taunt bug, which was hilarious (the bug accidentally turned our de-aggro skill into a permanent force taunt under certain conditions).

Tempest of Set - Age of Conan. What can I say, I like sturdy healing-hybrid classes. Also, melting people with lightening.

    Least Favorite:
Warden - LOTRO. I could not stand how difficult it was to get gambits off, let alone trying to remember them all. Also, I'm not that fond of tanking.

I always have two "favorite" flavors for my characters...

...one the "caster apprentice" archetype, skinny and young, physically weak (looking) and rather nerdy, but with powerful magic or superpowers or the force or sufficiently advanced technology to do all kinds of devastating long range effects focussing more on casting artillery then heals... be it ESO magica sorceror or STO science officer, SWTOR sith sorceror or AoC Demonologist...

...and the other the "assassin" archetype, petite and good at the sneaky, often using "pretending to be mostly harmless" visuals yet using all sorts of nasty tricks like poisons and stabby things, quiet weapons and specializing in long range sniping and close range surprise attacks... be it ESO stamina Nightblade or SWTOR Imperial Operative, AoC Assassin or STO cloak-happy tactical captain...

...and in pretty much every game, I tend to make those to to start with, one mild-mannered androgynous boy and one tough tomboyish girl (I am a little wierd that way, my main characters are always a tad gender-ambiguous...)

But I kinda tend to try out ALL the character build options, (though in many games, I do delete those I really feel "meh" about playing... strangely in ESO, I find all playable...)

Only other MMO I've played (and continue to do so) is FFXIV.

My favorite Classes in that game were Monk, fast paced fist fighter, and White Mage, big burst healers with HoTs for days. Stormblood kind of ruined MNK though, putting breaks on the high speed combat MNK was known for, but WHM went from meh in Heavensward to GODLY in Stormblood with the addition of Thin Air, which gave 100% Free Casts to all their abilities for 12 seconds, skyrocketing WHM from worst sustain Healer to greatest sustain Healer. It became almost impossible to go OOM on a WHM outside of chain rezzing.

Only Class in that game I regret not getting more into were Machinist. After Stormblood fixed the single greatest issue with MCH, it seemed like a fun class to play and I occasionally would try it out but I wasn't very good since the timing on its abilities was crucial to being a good DPS with it but it was just beyond me. Still, maybe with enough practice, muscle memory would have eventually taken over that I could have had a decent side job to have and enjoy periodically

Since ESO doesn't have Unarmed combat, MNK is out and because Templar has none of what I enjoyed about WHM (HOLY SPAM FOREVER!!!!!!!!!!), I can't really emulate any of them into ESO sadly.

Funny I just started this again. Was a player since 2008. My favorite was Cleric in this game loved heals debuffs and utility like root and sleep.

Least favorite from PWI was barbarian. Was just boring to tank.

I also use to love Silkroad Online. My favorite classes were European wizard and rogue. Invisibility for both. Wiz had great aoes with earth magic. Rogues could make masks to turn into monsters which was fun to use and sell.

Least favorite in SRO would be Chinese blade and shield. Slow killing and grinding mobs was a big part of leveling.

This game ESO I like my Magplar healer and Stamdk damage dealer.

I don't really dislike any class in ESO. Probably play nightblade least though its still a fun class.

I'm glad I made this post. I've really enjoyed reading what everyone loved to play and didn't. Even after all of these years playing MMOs there have been a few that have slipped by me while I was playing others and reading about some of the classes they had that a lot of you played sound pretty cool. I never played FFIV much longer than a few days as it just wasn't my bag. I think I started with the goal of being a white mage. I never tried BDO but it does sounds like they have some cool classes though.

I always wanted to try the warden class in Lotro. If I remember right it had some reactionary attacks which I think really makes melee fighting fun vs just spamming dps abilities. I like to be able to counterattack and that seemed to offer it. Unfortunately I was into my loremaster too deep at that time.

    Favourites
    WoW - Arms Warrior
    AoC - Conqueror
WHO - Shadow Warrior, than Slayer
SWTOR - Jedi Guardian / Sith Juggernaut
    ESO - StamNB

    Wish I gave more playtime
    WoW - Rogue
    AoC - Bear Shaman
    WHO - White Lion
    SWTOR - Bounty Hunter (Powertech)
    ESO - StamDK (before ruined)

Classes I didn't care for and I don't to current time are Spellcaster archetypes in general.

Other MMOs I played either didn't have classes or haven't made much impact on me, except DAoC, I enjoyed every single class I played.

Slayer class was very cool. I read some of the Gotrek and Felix Warhammer stories and I was all into the class.

Another great class IMO in WAR was the Witch Hunter. I had a blast with that character and normally I don't play sneaky types. Once again some of the Witch Hunter stories of Mathias (sp?) in the books really made me enjoy the class that much more.

Favorite was EQ1 monk. Closest thing to pure melee that wasn't gimped too bad for soloing and didn't give it "magic" and call it melee. Everything could be explained by complete mental /physical discipline. Feign death slow respiration and heartbeat. Cloth armor so was FAST hard to hit, but when hit it HURT. Lots of damage(pressure points etc) and hand to hand weapons/throwing stars. Focus on inner body for minor healing. After WOW and Sony started panicking monks got a bit unrealistic(imo)
