Is Spell Strategist THAT GOOD?

So I made a post about never getting SS in ROTW boxes. But after looking at it...how does it REALLY stack up against BSW?

✭I think it differs on what terms u r asking. For endgame players, 2k more dps over their 50k is worth a lot, but for average player 1k over their 25k dips might not mean too much. Also consider that endgamers (mostly) value single target dps over aoe. There's nothing you can't achieve without Spell Strategist.
The rarity is the real answer to the price tho. I earned approx 8m AP (400 RftW boxes) since Murkmire release and got nothing but 2 blue rings and 2 divines pieces. Some got an inferno in their 3rd box and hit the jackpot

Can't speak for you bud ^^ It adds a lil more single target and it takes a lil from aoe, and it's expensive. Your budget, your build I myself already bought inferno and golded jewellery, but i got more than enough money and 2k more single target is worth that money for me. PC|EU2 -

✭✭✭✭✭It blows BSW away. The only set that can compete with it is Siroria.
Let's break it down by spell damage:
SS = 858 effective spell damage
BSW @ 60% uptime (which is extremely generous) = 544 effective spell damage

✭✭It's only good if you can keep it up. Good luck doing that in PvP with all the lag, bugs, etc. where the set was actually designed to work...
I honestly swapped the set out because requiring a light attack for full power is so wasteful in PvP. I like my damage consistent, predictable, and most of all constant. That wasn't happening for me and how I play, so it turned out to be worthless for me.
If you want to see if you can use it, then simply buy armor pieces or do pvp and get some (very easy). Don't be an idiot and waste all your gold on a staff... I got armor pieces for 3000G total.0 -

THEN:
SS is worth it.
If you don't meet all 3 criteria, then don't bother. it's allot of $$ for something that could easily get nerfed w/i a few months.0 -
NinchiTV✭✭✭✭✭For pvp, yes. But it makes you chose if the other set is going to be sustain or mitigation. I havent made a build that can balance around SS very well, at least in magsorc. A magnb could probably get away with it a lot easier. Its really powerful if you want to go full range and just blast people.2 -

✭✭Personally I'm tired od chasing new BIS every 3 months only for a little more DPS. BSW is fine for me so no SS is not worth it to at least.8 -

It's good on 1 vs 1 situations... Oh and for target dummy heroes. Preffer my good old BSW/ Siroria is situational in more static combat where you do not need to run like stupid and instead just stand still (for example never take siroria for the Asylum trial).0 -

NupidStoob✭✭✭✭✭Mechanical Acuity was usable in pretty much all situations against even multiple targets and on both stamina and magicka which made it way more OP than spell strategist. That being said I wouldn't be surprised if they bring it more in line with scathing and BSW.
Relequen is quite similar by providing massive single target DPS, but we can assume that that won't be changed since it's a chapter set and people pay money for that. Siroria and Olorime are also pretty OP, but same deal there.0 -

They've trashed Maelstrom Arena destro staves, they used to have 270 or so spell damage at all times as a unique enchant on them, which made them back then the weapon of choice.
