The 'Duchess' personality and the "jogging" dilemma

Hey there.

The Duchess Personality is one of the game's most popular personalities apart from the Assassin one. However, there are a few problems with Duchess here, and it's about one of the animations and how it fails to register for PC users. If you head on to the Crown Store and click on this personality, the game will allow you to preview the animation changes, including the movement ones: walking and running, jogging. Jogging is the kind of speed that's faster than walking, but slower than running (not to be confused with sprinting). Only console users can achieve this thanks to a controller, but PC users cannot. This means that most will confuse jogging with running when it comes to the Crown Store's previews.

What's the difference? Instead of flailing her arms 'gracefully', the character (be it female or male of any race) will show off the default running animation instead. There are other differences, but the arms and the way the chest is thrusting forward are the most noticeable differences.

    There are four functional movements. Walk, Run, Jog, and Sprint. You can achieve the Walk personality animation by using the Toggle Walk/Run button. There's currently no way to reach the Jog speed on a keyboard, only gamepad.

    I don't know if a Toggle Run/Jog button would work. Maybe a Gameplay setting where the Personality Jog is turned on/off? Then you'd get the Jog every time you Run but not when you Sprint.

    It isn't available because it doesn't make sense, the jog animation exists solely to bridge the speed gap between walking and running since gamepads have proportional speed control. Without an intermediate jog animation you'd either end up with an awkward fast walk or equally awkward slow run when moving at a speed between walking and running. There is just no reason to even offer the option to a keyboard user, the walk/run toggle is already pointless enough.

    Controlling my run speed more fluidly is pretty much the only reason I ever use a controller despite playing on PC. Too bad the built in console interface is so horrendous

    Giving this a polite bump, not trying to necro this thread at all.

    Would someone on staff kindly let us know if the team in charge of Crown Store stuff design has seen this and is planning on making it appear as it is still advertised in the store preview?

    Its definitely possible to do this on PC. I do it. Granted I do use a Xbox game pad.

    I've played a game where one could press key to cycle thru walking, running and sloooowly oooozing. Always fun to instruct new players to press the key to get back to running when they complained being stuck in slow mode for a week.

    Because it can't be "fixed"?

    A controller's analog stick can give a range of movement speeds.
    A keyboard key can give "stop" and "go".

    This has been a basic issue with every game in existence that has a speed-of-motion range. Like flight sims (using WASD for changing direction), driving games (steering DIRT 3 with a keyboard is really awkward), etc.

    Some games work better with analog-stick controllers. Other games work better with mouse & keyboard. It is what it is, there's nothing to "fix".

    Then the “fix” is to change the item description to read “some options only available when playing with a controller”. The thing isn’t acting as the purchase preview. It needs to be fixed.

    So they made the "fix" dependent on buying the new chapter, leveling the Antiquities skill line and go hunting for five leads to excavate a Mythic item. Hmm. Not sure if this is clever, evil or a mere coincidence...

    Honestly, all that does is show more clearly than ever that making this something that can be toggled (like the run/walk keybind that is already available in controls for keyboard users) is possible. The speed is available. What is not available is an easy way to access the speed via some control systems.

    Considering that this speed option (jog) conveys no progression advantage in game, and is something that is likely important purely to people doing some level of RP with their toons, it's silly that it hasn't been added to the possible keybind options.
