Entering a vet dungeon?

So I opened the looking for group panel and selected veteran fungal grotto 1 and join queue. I entered the dungeon directly from outside and the entire time I played through I saw I was still in queue. I did the entire dungeon solo and did not get monster helm at the which I thought was a 100% chance drop from final boss?

Did I not enter the dungeon directly or did something bug? New to dungeons and this was my first ever try at one so I assume I messed up

Did you get at least 50% violet loot?

Your first ever try and you soloed a vet dungeon, albeit the easiest one? No death run as well? Maybe I'm just old and crotchety, and I apologise if it's unwarranted, but I'm a tad cyncial.

But no, you're supposed to wait for the onscreen prompt to confirm your readiness, then the group forms at the entrance.

Sounds to me you were queued for vet but played it on normal while waiting.

Go into group in the menu and change it to vet. That's what determines what happens when you walk right in. If you were on vet there would be a big shield watermark over the left half of the screen. Also, the loot you got should be purple, as mentioned.

vFG1 was my first vet solo. The final boss has a few nasty hits that require you to build for. Normal medium armor damage gear won't get it done unless you can dodge everything despite having all the aggro. At 17k health, he has one shots that aren't even part of his main 2 mechanics.

At least that was my experience as a stamblade. I used medium fort brass on the final boss first time I successfully cleared it solo. It's slow and not really that fun.

    This.
You can queue for a vet dungeon while still having your dungeon difficulty set to normal.

I'm a bit confused then how to change it to vet while in the queue in the options menu? For the life of me I can't find it

When you queue in the group finder you get to select veteran or normal. In order to set your solo instances to veteran you must go into the menu under social>group and set the difficulty to veteran.

Also, keep in mind that if you queue for a dungeon and then enter it manually while waiting, if your group eventually forms, the instance will reset and you have to start the whole thing from the beginning.

You change from vet to normal by clicking tiny shield symbols.
    1. Go into group finder.
    2. You should see top right...dungeon mode
    3. Click the tiny shield symbols to switch between vet and normal.

Note 1. ... group on the left side must be highlighted.

Note 2.... if you made it this far u should be able to figure out the rest.
    Good luck
