Mag DK PVP best trait for weap

Hello everyone,

Currently on my Mag DK for BGs I run a Destro/S&B combo.

My Destro bar is focused solely on damage, I run all my damage skills on this bar and I run a Nirnhoned Staff of the Sun. My tooltip damage is awesome on this bar.

For my back-bar I have only buffs, defensive and healing skills: Coagulated Blood, Cauterize, Volatile Armor, Molten Armaments & Flex-spot.

My Sword and Board are from the Naga Shaman Set for that 4% extra healing received from the 2-piece bonus.

My shield is impenetrable but my question is:

¿What trait is best for my sword? ¿Nirnhoned for more Spell Dmg that amplifies heals? ¿Powered for 4.5% more healing done? ¿Defending for more resistances? ¿Some other trait?

Take into account this style of play and the fact that this is a purely defensive/healing bar.

Infused so you can slap a berserker glyph there.

I would say nirnhoned over infused on your main damage bar. Are you running light or heavy armor? I would go Burning Spellweave or Spell Strategist over Sun , I know easier said than done but spell strategist will be the new spinners in a couple weeks, the market will be flooded with it and this will likely make it cheap. Burning spellweave synergizes well with MagDKS because of the burning passive.

Defending is best on back bar.

Yes, I'm running a Nirnhoned Fire Staff on my main bar. I use light armor and my choice sets are Bloodthron & Sun.

I don't really like Spell Strategist for Mag Dk because:

A ) I like to Leap into clusters of enemies so I wouldn't buff my spell damage against most of the enemies in this situation. Same is true for other AOE skills I might use.

B ) Sometimes you can't easily land light attacks even while weaving, for example versus dodgy targets or projectile deflectors.

C ) The 5 piece buff doesn't apply to heals, so it is much like Sun in that matter. Also their Spell Dmg bonus is almost at same numbers but Sun is up 100% of the time.

    As for Burning Spellweave:

People call the DK the DOT class, but I don't really run any DOT on my build. I do more than enough damage with direct damage skills, my tooltips are quite high with my setup. So my BSW uptime wouldn't be so good and I like the first bonuses from Sun better.

It's a shift from the Meta Mag DK that is giving me quite good results.

I've been running my destro on front bar but yesterday tried s+b on front bar and I'm liking it and the psijic ulti that gives 8% damage reduction for tankyness on my front bar, then just put leap on my backbar with a nirnhoned destro staff so leap still slams hard. I find I'm on my front bar way more so the shield and minor protection really helps and with an infused weapon and spell damage enchant on the front bar my damage stays up. But if you're looking for just back bar healing and defensive bar weapon trait I would go with defensive or healing. Just depends on which you would rather have there

Also, keep in mind that cauterize is actually an offensive skill as well as it passively gives you much higher crit if slotted on your front bar, like 10% more. Helps a lot

I don't have an answer to your question but I recently went Sun front bar on my MagDK PvP build. I was front barring BSW but I wanted to use my inferno staff on a PvE build since I play that much more. I too have an offensive front bar and defensive back bar. How do you like this set up? I haven't tested it much so far and am hesitant to start transmuting just yet. Is nirnhoned prefered for the damage bar? Right now I have a defending staff of the sun.

I run infused break bar with weapon power glyph. Other than that, pretty sure nirn gives higher heals than powered. I prefer these than defending

I've found that for my style of play having a defensive bar and an offensive bar is best. On the back bar I have the Psijic Ultimate for the Minor Protection and on the front bar I use the DK Leap.

Nirnhoned is definitely the best trait for the Staff because it gives so much Spell Power when on the front bar. This makes Leap, Whip, Light Attacks etc. hit extremely hard.

Awesome, I was about to gold out my Powered sword but after reading this I'm totally going to go for Nirnhoned instead. Thanks!
