We do that by traveling to Crown in the Group menu or the Player name in the Guild or Friends list, so not sure what your asking for.
Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

There's an event one of my guilds runs that involves overland creatures. We can and do run into problems with randoms coming in and trolling our event. Sometimes they do so very deliberately. There are times our group leaders bounce around for several minutes trying to find a clean instance of the zone without these trolls. Being able to manually select a clean instance without the trolls would be very beneficial to events like this. That said, I don't see a way of doing it that would prevent the trolls from just following you if they wanted to.

Agree. Without context it is fairly irrelevant if we can select the instance.

And this is all that is needed with what we have ATM.

That is still not entirely allowing you to choose which specific instance you want to be in, but rather it's only letting you choose the one that the other person is in.

I am referring to being able to see all available instances and to be able to select which one you would like to join, such as seeing a list in the UI that you can look at.

There are occasions that it doesn't work.

Say I'm in a group of 12 doing daily delve quests. The first 9-10 of us load into the delve ok, but the others can not port to us because the delve instance is full(because of the other people already in it). They can manually enter the delve but they are in a totally different instance.

This doesn't happen each time but has happened multiple times in guild delve runs. I'm honestly not even sure why ZOS didn't think about putting the first person to enter into a new instance that would be capable of supporting the whole group, but they don't.

Any ideas how it would work though?

Currently new shards are created when initial ones are too full. You can't just let people move into the crowded ones otherwise everyone will want to and they will be too full.

Perhaps you can put yourself in a queue to enter the one you want?

Would be interesting to see how dead areas are and get actually figures on player populations

(They'd never want you to know this)

Path of Exile allows this by CTRL+Clicking instance barriers. You can see a list of everyone in that instance.

Makes it super easy to find the one your friends are in.

In Beta you could do this. It was helpful to change to another instance when the quests were bugged. There was so many bugs in beta, also boss respawn timers were way too long and this was only way to get them.

Sadly they removed the ability to see your instance and to change it. Heaven forbid we might get an idea of how many are playing based on the number of instances created by the servers.

Yeah, the only use I'm seeing for this, is allowing a player to pop into the same instance as someone else, who isn't on their friends list, in party, or in a shared guild. So, for trolling, harassment and stream sniping. Yeah, I can see why this isn't an option.

In Beta you could not exceed the instance limit so as soon as the number dropped you clicked it to fill. Also you could not create an instance, only the server could based on when instances were full.

Wouldn't you just have folks who get a group together and then travel to different instances, all teleporting to each other to not have to wait for World Boss spawns and stuff?

I can see this being abused heavily.
People planting bots in zones that are empty to suck up all the nodes.
I think it would also be very server intensive can you imagine lets say 10,000 instances of some zone because people want an empty zone to farm in or to do group stuff in because they don't want other people in it.
In the end ESO is an MMO not your own personal bubble of a server.
Your going to come across trolls and nice people out there that's just the way it is, does it suck to have to put up with trolls? of course it does i've been there done that but that's the nature of the beast.
It's an interesting idea for sure but there are a lot of variables to it.

I would love to be able to swap zones when ever I see (genericmalefirstnamestartingwithJ)the(colorofsnow) on PS4 in Zone Chat. I really hate hearing his long and drawn out racist and sexist speeches all day every day if I'm in certain zones. I've reported him, and others have, a billion times. Still there every day preaching racial and gender superiority.
It would be magical to swap zones to avoid idiots or spammers.

I have not been able to find out how to Ignore a user on PS4. I mean, I don't often run across someone so annoying, so I haven't really needed to scour the earths looking for a way, but still.. I just haven't seen a prompt for it.

Ah, I was just looking it up and I guess you have to walk up to the player to use the radial menu, so that's less helpful. Sorry to hear that.
