Is Murkmire’s story standalone?

I like playing through the game in a way that I can best enjoy a logical story order for my characters (I hated starting in Summerset only to discover it was essentially the end of a story arc). I was curious if Murkmire’s story is truly standalone or if it references and continues story/characters/events from previous releases or if this starts the next big story arc.

Dunno if it's starting another story arc, but while I recall a few cameos of NPCs from other zones (EX: the Dunmer wives who are overseeing the construction of Vivec City) I don't remember anything that tied into the Daedric Triad story or the vanilla main quest.

Vanilla fighters guild, mages guild, Thieves guild dlc, Dark brotherhood dlc and Muirkmire dlc are basically standalone.

Some re-appearing NPCs we known in side quests, but ultimately the story (main quest) has no connection to any other (Soulburst, three banner war, triad invasion) major story arc

I would say, its about as standalone as it gets.
Which in turn is saying something about the story too. After all, the murkmire story -not- referencing the impeding planemeld is a pretty solid sign that is is playing out -after- the mainstory. And you DO meet some people you know from Vvardenfell and around... so while there -are- hints that is it playing after mainstory -and- the triad storyline, they are small and easily ignored without damaging immersion if you so choose.
    ...
I will still do it in its proper release place as the "last" installment, but... each as they choose. (also so it doesn't get stale, did it with my forerunner main now, next I will do some old content on some alts, then I will get my secondary main to murkmire, then I will do some old content with alts again, just to make sure I don't do the same quests all the time on different characters, that'd be boring after all...)

Thanks! And yes, I loved playing the Heroes of Might and Magic game back in the day (HoM&M 3 and its addons was my favorite). Always liked the name Xenofex as a a fantasy name. Used it in a lot of games, can go by Xeno for short.

I get the feeling with one of the story quests that there's potential for some later plot linkage-- that it won't be quite as stand-alone as it seems.
