Basic combat question

Casual pve question for general attacking/dps. Where does heavy attack fit in?

I haven't been trying to learn 'rotations' or anything fancy. I basically use one skill for lifesteal that lasts a while and one that increase damage for a while as openers, then one lifesteal attack mostly, and then have one 'finisher' attack for low enemy dps. That's it.

So I've just been hitting light attacks mostly. Then found heavy attacks return some majicka/stamina, so if I run out, maybe do some heavy attacks. What else should I consider?

Heavy attacks restore stamina / magicka, there are sets that boost them, and you can do a 'heavy attack weave', where you hold down the attack button *all the time*, never releasing it (unless you get interrupted), and before the heavy attack is launched you press a skill button. You will fire off the skill right as the heavy attack is completed, and then you will immediately start another heavy attack. It can be quite effective. You´ll see if it´s successful if you get green / blue bubbles floating to indicate that you get resource restore. It´s a bit harder to do with restoration staff and lightning staff because those are channels and can react... iffily.

Basic combat order buff/debuff, lay aoes then kite enemies into them and attack. Easiest way for me to learn any multiskill rotation is to put them on the bars in descending order of time I can or need to fire them off. If you don't want to learn a complicated rotation which is fair enough then I would suggest using damage proc sets to supplement your dps.
