Honestly not sure if this would be better suited to here or the Crown Store board, but it can always be moved I suppose.

So with the recent addition of the Mourner pack of Hats to the CS, we come once again to the problem most of the Hats in this game have, that being that for some Gods-awful reason they hide your hair. Is there any reason this is a thing? Some Hats don't do it, which makes me question why most of them do. Is it honestly so hard to tweak the coding a bit to stop whatever causes Hats overriding the hair on your character?

I feel bad for the people who actually spend Crowns on these things, only to hate and never use them because they essentially render a character bald.

The art department is getting very sloppy and as a result I am spending fewer crowns. Costumes that dye horribly, holes in meshes, dye sections looking like they slipped - the list is endless.

As a modder who made things for FREE, I took more care over my art assets than Zeni's art guys - and they want us to spend REAL MONEY on this stuff.

I was going to buy these hats, but now I'll pass and continue to sit on my crowns. Losing the hair and not knowing how they dye up is putting me off for sure.

I like the new hats. Every day I log in and preview them on my characters looking at the changes they make to the hair, trying to decide if I can live with it. Mine don't go bald, but the hair changes pretty drastically when the hat is added. It's a shame really.

    THIS.

The dye is the biggest issue for me. If I create a character that's supposed to make your soul shiver in his black and red outfit only to find out it's grey and pink...yeah, think I'll wait on buying the next hat/outfit/motif etc. Same with mount reskins. Got it in black already don't need another. Yes, I noticed THIS one might have purple/white/pink polka dots on it but no thank you, I already have one like it. I have to admit though with the mounts they are better at variety than they are in making sure dyes aren't washed out on some motifs(or part of some motifs)

Similarly, though perhaps less noticed, is previewing head markings on Argonians (and Khajiit?) when it adjusts their skin color. My gal has white skin and uses body markings, so it's black ink of white skin. I previewed the new head marking tattoos and, like usual, it put my scaled skin colored texture back on, so I couldn't actually preview what my character looked like with the tattoos and body markings. If that makes sense. I've learned to live with it but the fact is while these head markings show up easily over the scales, many do not - like the crow ones that I really was on the fence about. They don't show up well over the scaled skin... but I wouldn't be wearing them with scaled skin.

    Just mentioning it here.

Looks like the reason is your default hair. Maybe you are using one of the short ones? I just did a quick preview on my characters and here is how they look with the hat on (bosmer didn't quite fit in the preview window, they should've really given her some block to stay on):

None of them lost their hair. More than that, their hair differs in attempt to look like their default hairstlye. First character has curly hair, second has a ponytail and last one has straight dreads. I wouldn't call this lazy art department.

Well it kind of still is. Lazy coding anyway. Why can't you keep your hairstyle with any hat you put on? Why do they change it even if they don't make you go bald? There's really no good reason for it.

Probably has something to do with it being a 100+ hairstyles in the game so clipping/floating issues will be inevitable.

It doesn't have to be inevitable, though. There's no reason they shouldn't be able to take the time to ensure Hats work with each hairstyle instead of just a select few; why does it make sense to have it work that way? So only a percentage of the people who want to use these aesthetics actually can, while the rest are given a big middle finger for designing their character's with a hairstyle that looks good on them?

If they want to keep introducing new Hats, then coding them to work right with each hairstyle, including making sure new hairs that are released work with prior-released Hats, should pretty much be mandatory. They've changed certain other aesthetic things, like how Beast races used to not be able to wear the eye patch, or being able to wear Minor and Major Adornments now instead of how it used to, iirc, be one category. Can they not find a way to make Hats and Hair exist together the same way Minor and Major Adornments do? If the problem is the Hat occupying the same "slot" on the model as Hair, why not add a new slot specifically for Hats?

It just seems lazy to me, especially since there are a handful of hairstyles Hats work with, instead of removing entirely.
