ESO's Final Chapter ... and Your Character's Final Fate

Greetings, ladies and gentlemen.

Let's say that, a few years from now, it's time to wrap up ESO. My question is, how would you do it? How would you end it all?

Here's a scenario that I've been chewing on a bit:

In this final chapter, your hero or heroine becomes entangled in one final Daedric plot, one that involves multiple major Princes — except this time, they're wise(r) to your ways and finally unleash their full power against you.

You battle their forces to a final confrontation with these Princes. It's a seemingly hopeless fight in the end ... your hero(ine) falls in the ensuing battle, but not before putting a stop to the latest Daedric plan, whose failure guarantees they'll be prevented from interfering in Tamriel's future for centuries to come.

As you lay dying, your life in Tamriel flashes before your eyes. Your accomplishments. Your failures. Your victories. Your defeats. All of it ... and then some. The last thing you see in this life is a flash of bright white light, followed by darkness and fleeting visions of what's to come ...

... Arena ...

... Daggerfall ...

... Morrowind ...

... Oblivion ...

... Skyrim ...

... and you realize in that last instant of comprehension that you're going to return, again and again, each time playing a crucial role in Tamriel's history. A hero/heroine reborn when the world needs a hero/heroine.

You smile. You'll be back. You'll always be back ...

what is with people talking about "final" this and final that lately....

I know you're just doing a what if thing..(which i'll admit i like your idea) but there are other threads recently doing the exact same ... I am really confused as too why so many have suddenly started doing it almost projecting a "doom and gloom scenario" the game is doing quite well, making boat loads of money at a decent rate through crownstore and other means, player count is decent, content is constantly coming...

This game has a 20 year plan and has done for a while this game will continue well into after TES VI releases as well.

I have no illusions about the current state of the game but damn I do wish people would stop with the doom and gloom and "if the game ended a few years down the road...." stuff too.
Ah, e-communities - the "pinnacle" of the internet............yeah, right.

In every TES game you are a new hero. So the Skyrim dude cannot have flashbacks of the Morrowind dude.

Anyway, my grand finale would be uninstalling the game if they announced shutdown of the servers. No need to linger around when this is inevitable.

Don't see it happen anytime soon though. Maybe 10 years from now.

"I am a nightblade. Blending the disciplines of the stealthy agent and subtle wizard, I move unseen and undetected, foil locks and traps, and teleport to safety when threatened, or strike like a viper from ambush. The College of Illusion hides me and fuddles or pacifies my opponents. The College of Mysticism detects my object, reflects and dispels enemy spells, and makes good my escape. The key to a nightblade's success is avoidance, by spell or by stealth; with these skills, all things are possible."

The grande finale would be my toon in a whaling boat with spear in hand chasing the great white whale. Or battling my way up a 50 floor mages tower knocking down wave after wave of minions with high levels of resource sustain gained from la/melee weapon throw gauntlet legends style.

The game still has a lot of potential. Not many zones in the vertical. It's mostly horizontal.

I've considered what I'd do if ESO went under, not that I suspect it will anytime soon. IF it did though, I'm still clueless. I'd have freed up an average of 20 hours a week though. I guess I could just spend more time at the gym, or pick up some extra hours at work.

Last Chapter will put us against Meridia as she shines down her radiance upon the land, closing every Dolmen permanently and instead replacing them with Pillars of Light that call down her Aurorans in the place of Coldharbour enemies. In order to stop her, you need to find the Lightless Remnant, leading you into another area of Coldharbour, where we meet Verandis Ravenwatch again, chained up and acting as a host for the Remnant's power, which can only be extracted from him in a long arduous quest that slowly kills him at each step. Along the way, it turns out that you require the aid of Mannimarco in order for him to move the Remnant's power into a giant Black Soul Gem as its new host but during the process, Molag Bal absorbs the majority of the Remnant's Power and goes on a full scale war against Meridia on Nirn. Mannimarco then advises us to find the remaining members of the 5 companions and the Amulet of Kings so that they can salvage what little power remained of the Lightless Remnant and fuse it with the Amulet of Kings.

After another long, drawn out questline, you infuse the Amulet with the remaining powers of the Lightless Remnant only to find that it still won't be enough to stop this conflict and that you need the blessing of Akatosh, meaning a return to Imperial City and into the Dragonfire Cathedral to try and convince the Drake of Blades into infusing herself into the Amulet of Kings to bless it with Akatosh's power once again. Even after this however, the amulet is unresponsive, so we need to run off to Clockwork City for Sotha Sil's advice on how to make the Amulet work. He advises using Sunna'rah to try and draw out the divine power of the Amulet and after some quests, you are successful in awakening the Amulet.

Just as we're about ready to stop the fight between Molag Bal and Meridia, the Amulet has now gone missing because Meridia ain't having none of that and ends up taking it into her realm of Oblivion. Now we have to fight our way thru Meridia's realm to recover the Amulet of Kings where we bump into a corrupted version of Darien Gautier whom is guarding the Amulet as Meridia's Champion. Emotional screaming ensues, Darien Martyr's himself again, and we finally get the amulet, drinks all around in the Hollow City. We use the amulet to draw the 2 warring Princes back into Oblivion, in which we do battle with them, reflecting their powers at each other, until we emerge victorious but due to the extreme strain the amulet has put on us, our soul has now been broken and we fade away. Cut to an epilogue of our deeds and end game.

I think that it is highly probable that no matter what The Vestige does, we are always going to be tied to Coldharbour and end up back there, should we be able to die.

We were born of Coldharbour, our bodies are made of Amber Plasm, and even with our soul returned, we are not technically our human selves. In a sense, Molag Bal might just have dominion over us, and no matter how much we do or who we save, we might always destined to end up back in Coldharbour for eternity.

If ever the game ends (in a long time), I hope there will be one last update : which will allow us to be able to go back to see when the desire will return to us, even though it will be a solo experience in the remnants of what was once an MMO.

Our indestructible vestiges will fight on until 2E 896, the end of the Second Era (only another 300+ years to go, folks!)

At that time Akatosh finally regains his focus, having been knocked off balance all that time as a result of the Soul Burst. Akatosh fuses all the Vestiges, and all those skyshards they have absorbed, into the new god Talos.

The Order of Talos is founded on Tamriel with the express purpose of supressing all testimony that deviates from the now orthodox single version of the life of Talos/Tiber Septim.

Having released one new chapter for every in-game year since 2E 578, ZOS finally ends ESO on the one remaining unified, omni-platform server with the last character to hold the Emperorship in the one remaining Cyrodiil campaign being written into TES lore as the protagonist in a heretical alternate memory of Talos' early life (similar to the story of Hjalti becoming Tiber Septim).

That would be very fitting for my main character, since I do play pretty much the same character in every TES game, so it kind of is like she's being reborn each time. My other ESO main is the character I play in all other western RPGs, (similar personality, different build) so her fate could be similar but reborn into different worlds.

I'm not sure either of them would be very happy with that fate though. They're kind of reluctant heroes, they like getting to travel and explore and even some of the incredible stuff they do, but also like the idea that it's only for a while and one day their lives will go back to "normal".

I imagine them reacting to the news that they're going to keep doing this over and over for all time with more resignation than excitement. And I imagine if I tried saying "Well Link does it and he never complains" they'd slap me.

Khajiit sees the distant future thusly …

There is the biggest Fishmas party ever. The whole of Vivec city is covered in snow. Everywhere travellers eat fish and drink .. whatever goes with fish. so much dancing and merriment. The party to end all parties yes ...

Then that rock - it wobbles - and begins to fall.

But then Sotha Sil appears in an enormous clockwork time machine. We all pile in yes and are taken just a few hundred years in the future - not so far that it affects other things that have already happened no.

We all get out and find ourselves in the near future - alive but without everything we had before, apart from the party costumes we stand up in yes.

So we begin our lives again - dressed in ballgowns, jester outfits and assorted silly hats. Someone was wise enough to hold on to a bottle of wine also.

    Fallout: New Tamriel.

I like to think that Eve (my first character and completionist) and Logan (my husband's first character and completionist) who have traveled the lengths and breadths of Tamriel together and faced many dangers will finally decide enough is enough.

They will settle into a small cottage somewhere, perhaps in The Rift, where he will hunt mammoth and she will make rabbit pot pies and they will tell their grandchildren about that one time when Gran-gran and Pappa faced off Molag Bal and, for a moment, united the splintered factions to face a common threat.

Then they will eat cookies. And Logan will pretend to be a an Ogre and there will be much giggling.

This is what my "fade to black" will be one day.

My headcanon for my character's fate is that at some point in time before the Tiber Wars he gets himself stuck frozen solid somehow in the Skyrim ice fields. Not dead - thus, so he doesn't reform - but not concious, so he can't escape by himself. Maybe he did it on purpose.

Then, my Skyrim character eventually stumbles upon him Avatar style, in the 4th Era, breaks him out, and talks, and at the same time, my Morrowind Nerevarine escapes inprisonment in Akavir and returns to Tamriel to warn them of an impending 3rd Akaviri invasion.

Also at the same time, my Oblivion character that mantled Sheogorath gets cursed to return to Tamriel in their mortal form again, by the other Daedric Princes, when they (finally) realize that Jyggalag has escaped the cycle of Sheogorath and has finished his preparations to wage war against the other Daedric Princes in revenge for his being cursed to be Sheogorath for so long.

It's probably around the same time the second Great War with the Thalmor starts too, just so things are really crazy. So yeah the four different heros meet up eventually, and stuff happens.

My Altmer will sit and watch sunset at Dusk Keep in Alinor.
My Dunmer will go to a little lake in southern Stonefalls and watch volcano ashes falling there (he was never a fan of Vvardenfell politics)

And my Main will go to Coldharbor never to return.
