how to tell what I need to research?

I feel like an idiot right now. I just can't figure it out. When trying to research weapons and armour I need to some item so I can research it. Thing is I have a few left to research but I don't have a clue what I need to do. Is there a site or something that tells us what we need in order to research? I keep forgetting the names. Next time I log back in I will take a pic of the name so I can remember it and give it as an example if there is no list for anyone to link me.

It tells you the trait in the crafting menu. If you are having memory issues, write down what you need down and search in the traders or ask a guild mate for those traits.

If it's researched, it won't show the trait anymore, if you need to research it, it will display a trait name.

There are addons, but I personally just go to the research tab and look at the items.

Each item will show which traits have been researched, which traits need to be researched, and which traits have a researchable item in your inventory/bank.

Then I'm very low tech and I write those down for future reference as a shopping list to buy the researchable items.

If I understood what you mean...
You can see names of all traits at craft stations. Weapon/armor drops with random traits. If you need some exact trait to research, just ask in your guilds or (if you don't have any) zone chat, quite many people can craft item for you to research, for free (except nirn). Or buy in guildstores.
If you play on PC, you can also use addon TraitBuddy to easily track research (especially if you have more than one character) without visiting stations.

Houses: Erstwhile Sanctuary as actual Dark Brotherhood Sanctuary, Hunter's Glade as werewolf tavern (downstairs), Strident Springs Demesne as adventurer's house.
Wishlist: character slots, attunable stations (have 36/80 sets collected), molten war torte and white gold war torte recipes, Willowpond Haven, Kor and Hildegard houseguests, crown crates.

So for example I need an axe. It says power. I don't understand or I am not seeing the trait. So with that example what kind of axe should I be looking for?

Any ax that has the power trait. You physically need to have the ax on you or in your bank

All equipment comes in 9 different traits.

What is a power trait? For some reason I am not getting it. Will it say "power" on the ax? This is what I am not understanding. What should I be looking for so I can ask people or see to buy it in shops.

If you look at the item in your inventory or the guild store list, it will have a magnifying glass icon if you need to research it. When you mouse over the item it will show the trait it has. I've highlighted them both in red boxes here:

Ah I see. Thank you so much everyone. So I should be looking for the magnifying glass icon. I didn't know that.

The item on the left side has CHARGED trait, the item on the right side has DIVINES trait.

    Oh, I see I'm late.

One of the two of us definitely has gone mad. It only remains to define whether this one is the whole world or just me.
