Choosing a Starting Area

It seems like it wouldn't be that difficult to choose how you want to start when creating a new character. Whether it's the vanilla Coldharbour area, Morrowind, or Summerset. A simple toggle at character creation. The starting areas/quests are already in the game. I beta tested the game, but was in medical school at the time and couldn't buy it until spring of last year, after Morrowind was released. Starting my first char in Morrowind was confusing, and left me feeling like I had no idea what was going on for the first week of gameplay. Having an option to go with the vanilla start would have been ideal. I can only imagine what new people who bought Summerset are trying to figure out. A lot of it doesn't make sense unless you start at the "beginning".

Yes, please! This would help with role playing and character narratives so much!

    Why only those places?
Why can't I start off as a filthy pickpocket in Hew's Bane?
Or a would be serial killer in Gold Coast?
Or as an Argonian Native of Murkmire?

Why are you stifling my RP damn it?
    Argonian forever

haha! I guess if you have those places unlocked, DLC zones could be included.
if I could make another character, their name would be Cries-For-Character-Slots. AKA, I need more.

Reasons why I use alternate start mods on other Bethesda games. I hope some day they will build it into their games.

Personally I always wished they would redo the whole tutorial thing... make the new tutorials all end up in coldharbour prison and continue into the old tutorial without the extra step of seeking out the "mysterious benefactor"; and then add another new tutorial to make them alliance-specific!

    Like...
...Pact characters start with the Morrowind tutorial continuing into the old Coldharbour tutorial (easy enough to do, just add a "rescue ship" that is actually full of worm cultist who will gladly take the newly "rescued" player character to the sacrifice scene and coldharbour prison cell for vestige status), and then find themselves in Bleackrock as the storyline intended, but with an option to bypass all that and go elsewhere if they so choose...
...Dominion characters on the other hand might start with the Summerset tutorial and continue towards Coldharbour tutorial in similar ways with some "captured by the bad guys and thrown to the worm cult sacrifice chamber to end up in a coldharbour prison cell", then find themselves on Kenarthi's Roost after escaping and continue the intended storyline from there, or bypass it again as they like...
...Covenant characters would require a new tutorial that continues over to the old Coldharbour tutorial, and then start from Stros m'Kai and so on...

Heck, maybe someday there could be one specific tutorial like this for every single race even, and all continue onward to the coldharbour tutorial... Morrowind tutorial would be fine for dark elves, Nords could have something involving lots of fighting and then getting into the mead too much and nabbed by the worm cult in a drunken stupor (anyone remember the scene in Conan the barbarian? ;) ), Argonians could have a swampy tutorial ending up getting captured by slavers and sold to the worm cult, Altmer would be fine with the Summerset tutorial, Bosmer could have something connected to colovian raisd around the valenwood border, Khajiit a peek at the borders of cyrodil, Bretons get some court intrigue gone awry and end up in worm cult hands that way, Redguards might have some tutorial involving a first hint of craglorn troubles, orcs get a early hint at the Orsinium storyline, and Imperials... could have a nifty "betrayal from within" storyline for a pre-coldharbour tutorial...

I mean, how nifty woudl that be, if every race got a slightly different path towards coldharbour? How much fun would it be for new players to experience all those? (I'd only be envious as an old player who already has made characters of every race if they did this... but I can always revisit the tutorials with a new alt slot someday I reckon...)

    You can RP all those.

A character who was a filthy pickpocket in hew's bane, then got on a boat taking a trip to morrowind for a great haist and got waylaid on firemoth island... a serial killer in gold coast streets recruited by the dominion army and getting caught up in summerset trouble... a argonian from murkmire travelling the world and in the end all three find themseles in a coldharbour prison cell.

The tutorials after all are not -supposed- to be your characters backstory, they are the "intro" setting them on the path of the games storyline, and nothing more. 's why TES games always had backstory-neutral tutorials... a "prisoner of uncertain parents, born on a certain day", mentioned in a prophecy, or glimpsed in an emperors dream or something like that, with no mention whatsoever of who or what your character had been before those fateful events...

If you own only Morrowind, you will start in Morrowind and very close to a wayshrine. If you wanna be a thief and own The Thieves Guild dlc's, then use that wayshrine and fast-travel to Hew's Bane and join the Thieves Guild. Same goes for Summerset too.
