Thank you. So what I wasn't seeing was it was a nature based. Oh my how did I miss this. I feel foolish now. Oh well, at least I know now.

Bosmer was mentioned twice now. Why does it make sense? I was thinking either Bosmer or Dunmer. Maybe I will do both. On PC and the other on Xbox. What would be the benefits of Bosmer? What would be the benefits of Dunmer? See I don't know how to min and max or power build so that doesn't matter. Just want to try something new but want to see why others say so.

What skills are the most fun to use? What weapons do you use and why?

If you dont care for min-max, then try Stamina based bow and dagger. Its a nice hunter based build and you can have it with more damage or more survivability.

Fun build can be a barehanded ultimate build. Rather magicka based and works well as Long as you stay away from vet and trials and maybe dlc Dungeons.

I'm trying to level my Khajiit magwarden right now and I've been having the same feeling-- just can't get the feel for it. I'm at level 29 with nothing even remotely close to morphing (mostly leveled via crafting writs), have tried the whole 1h/board setup, and have switched to the bow now. The sequence the class skills unlock in doesn't feel like it has a flow.

It's a weird blend of ground target skills, stuff that doesn't have enough range, no good snares, and nothing that deals with in-your-face melee either. The bear isn't a good tank either. It obliterates things it finally attacks in no time flat, but it usually likes to stand there staring at me instead of fighting :p I miss my clannfear and matriarch.

Right now, I'm using (sorry, bad at skill names):

    Bear ultimate
    Hail of arrows
    healing mushrooms
    cliff racer (before morph)
ice ring trap (before morph) which also doesn't seem to do anything
    ice shield (doesn't do much)

I gave up on the shalks (take too long to spawn), the ice armor (didn't seem to do anything), and I haven't figured out what to do with the netch. Right now, I'm pre-loading the mushroom healing buff and the shield before I ice ring, then start hail of arrows. Things die fairly quickly, but I do a lot of kiting. I'm guessing from the advice here that I should switch to staff. I'm bored with staves after playing for six months with my magsorc.

I only solo overland content, so build esoterica doesn't really matter as much. Is there anything that will make my warden feel fun instead of clunky aside from using a staff?

For starters, magden should be using staves (magicka oriented), not sword/bow (stamina oriented). All attributes should be in magicka - EOS is unkind to hybrids. Use mostly light armour and jewelry with magicka buffs but for increased survivability you can go heavy chest and medium waist (this pays off in the long term). Instead of relying on crafting writs use some of the experience scrolls that the game throws at you and spend some time in delves killing stuff and you'll be morphing before you know it. Delves also tend to have skyshards so you'll get those too.

I have two Wardens, an Argonian PvE tank and a magicka-based Dunmer who I made to throw cliff racers at people.

I love PvE tanking on a Warden because I really like the frost theme. It feels a bit clunky vs. my DK tank with some of the animations, but other than that it's really enjoyable to me. The class healing abilities are really useful, e.g. extra support in dungeon no-deaths, scenarios where I need to tank without a healer, or if the healer dies.

The magicka warden on the other hand I just can't get a feel for. The damage on it is lacklustre and I can't heal with it as well as I can on my Templar. I've done some pvp on it with a frost-based build which is probably the most fun I've had with it, but there are other classes I still prefer to pvp on more. He's basically bank space until I find something I enjoy doing with him unfortunately.

What you have described is a stam character. You use a bow. Also you want the morph of the bear that does *physical* damage not magic damage. The reason why you aren’t seeing results is because you think you are a magic warden when you are playing like a stamina warden. If you start focusing on stamina and physical damage then your bow and bear will be better.

I know I struggled with making a stamina character because most of the skills in the game (outside of physical weapons) are magic only, with a few morphing to stamina. Also I thought it would be difficult to manage dodging, blocking, interrupting etc AND use stamina for my spells. It didn’t make sense to me. From previous games it makes sense to use magic for spells and save stamina for blocking etc. After trying it though, it’s not so bad as I thought.

Quite like the Stamina Warden as DW/Bow, never tried a Magicka Warden but would like to try making one. I like Dunmer because of the Fire resistance plus they look better than the Altmer. I quite like the idea of an Ice build as well, I also not a massive fan of the bear so if I roll a Magic Warden I don't think I will use the Bear as my Ultimate. Been a nice read seeing what other players thoughts on the Warden are.

Don't forget about food - provisioning - and craft your gear newly every 2 levels (you will need the experience anyway, to craft higher level gear later on) - learn enchants and research gear traits. This is all stuff, which newbies normally don't recognize as important, but it really is.

I wanted to avoid making a stam character at all costs probably because I'm totally clueless about them. What I've been reading--which probably doesn't apply to me-- is you have to go into PvP to pick up caltrops for stam toons. Because there's no snare built into the classes? I have no idea. I loathe PvP in most games and would do anything to avoid it in this one ;)

Mostly I wanted to try something different since I'd spent a long time on staves with my sorc. I had no resource issues with either stamina or magicka-- but the complete lack of CC was driving me batty until I advanced bows enough to get the knockback. That made it manageable for an evening, if not ideal. Then I gave up and tried the ice staff. Much better!

Anyway, thanks for the detailed response :) I'll probably have to give stam a shot on my pending nightblade if I get that far.

Oh, the writs thing-- I've been pre-prepping several alts so I have their horses reasonably trained when I'm ready to get to them. Might as well make a little gold with them while I'm waiting ;) My lowest-level alt is lvl 13 now, I think. This one I started a couple of months ago while I was still finishing up Summerset and Morrowind on my first toon.

I hadn't had any resource problems-- just a lot of annoyance that the warden class itself doesn't seem to have any decent CC. Anyway, I switched to ice staff, and destro abilities are a thing of beauty. Wall of ice is insta-death :)

BTW, thanks for the advice :)

I have two dps wardens one magicka (Altmer) and one stamina (Redguard).

It really depends on your play style, I do lots of pve content on my magden, my stamden is in progress as I'm still after some gear pieces, and I plan on doing some pvp with my stamden soon too.

Since I'm on console, I'm playing my last days on my magden until I can experience nerfmire first hand and see if it's still viable for me anymore.

My altmer magicka warden is pretty fun to use as a healer, and I is also pretty fun as a solo DPS character. Takes more effort to do the same DPS as others, but outside of vet dlc and trials who cares. However, that said, my stamina redguard warden is much better DPS.

    Wait, still level 6?

Experiment on skill lines in line with the role you have in mind. While leveling, you may want to be a damage dealer first and concentrate on that. Stick and stay consistent with either Magicka or Stamina and don't do both. Avoid copying builds because it can take away the fun of building your own. Experiment on what skills fit your play style. When you reach level 15, you may want to practice a full rotation of using two bars.
