Is someone new would start today, what class would you suggest:

If the person wants to dps?

If the person wants to tank?

If the person wants to be healer?

I know eartch role got a "top contender" I'm not experienced enough to know the pros and cons when it comes to nightblade vs DK tank or sorcerer vs warden dps ect :)

Warden, most likely. Strong DPS as Stamina (can also heal as stamina or magicka), strong tank, decent healing.

If you want to do dps then go for Nightblade in a magicka spec.

If you want to tank there is only DK for new players. Wardens need some more exp.

If you want to heal, ofc go for templar as magicka spec.

If you want an OP master crafter who can also hold a lot of unused items and crafting Materials then go for Sorc. Max out bagspace and you dont even need eso plus with your newly magicka sorc master crafter.

Best class to level up was Templar for me. It's very user Friendly and enaging in open world. Warden is fun too but had a higher learner curve.

If you don't know what role you want to play, go for Templar or Warden. Right out of the tutorial you will have a decent spammable and a good self heal.

If you do know which role you are going to play with that character, you can just pick from the suggestions above.

Although I am not new to ESO, I recently moved from Xbox to PC. So, it feels like I am brand new...no Champion Points, etc. I chose a magicka templar and do not regret it one bit. It's very survivable, packs a punch in DPS, and can convert to a healer with relative ease. Grinding with a Magplar has been super easy.

Magicka templar for healing. Nothing else comes close except maybe warden. It's easy and fun to level. In dungeons where healing includes a DPS rotation, templar has a fun and powerful one. It has the most complete set of healing-related skills.

Warden for stamina DPS. That's an opinion about leveling, not endgame. The warden class skills that either are stamina-specific or have all-specs utility are much richer than other classes', including a spammable ranged attack and a stamina-based heal.

Magicka nightblade was dominant in endgame DPS, but is getting strongly nerfed as of Monday. Ask again in a few weeks after people's opinions shake out.

Argonian DK is probably the right tanking choice. A bonus is that dragons SHOULD look like lizards.

Argonian warden is the most flexible spec of all. It's well-suited to healing and tanking alike.

High Elf is a very safe option and can be a great healer, but Argonian is a sub-par DPS.

When intending to do both DPS and a second role I usually defer to what does better DPS since tanking and healing can be done incredibly well regardless of race.

For leveling via questing stam sorc with enough magicka to keep Boundless Storm up for major expedition is imo the most fun. I think Boundless Storm is getting nerfed for whatever reason so that avenue might be gone soon.

    For dungeons

Healer: Templar because pocket heal and cleanse. They can also drop 2x dps fields and use Skoria to add extra dmg. They can also spam sweep/la and keep Purifying Light up.

Tank: Stamina DK or Magicka Templar depending on what your doing. To turn your Templar healer into a tank all you need to do is switch into heavy and use a set like arch-mage with healing staff on back bar.

Dps: I don't dps dungeons. I would say what ever can do the most damage while taking the least damage while throwing in some support skills to control the battle e.g. talons, encase, caltrops.

If it is your very first class I would go Templar. The reason being they are somewhat mundane to lvl and if you lvl some fireworks show like NB or Sorc first you might not ever finish Templar.

For someone directly new to the game

    DPS:
Race: High elf - Good mana and passives add damage dealt. XP boost is nice but not extremely important.
Mag Sorcerer - Pet sorc to be specific - Easy mode rotation, decent dmg, and pick the matriarch for your own self heal. X2 lightning staves for easy AoE. Build fits both high risk solo and Dmg in groups, especially now that pets will become immune.

    Tank:
Race: Argonian - Passive for potions saves a TON of money for newbies. Each potion turns into a Tri resource for free boosting sustain.
Dragonknight - its just the best balanced tank in game. You work less to do the same as everyone else. Have excellent built in CC and pulls, and passives directly made to help you tank better.

    Healer:
Race - Argonian - Just for tri resource. Its not the super best race, but it can come in handy to boost your stam back up if you have to sprint a bit. Bonus to heals
Templar - Same as above. You have just ez mode heals enabled. A really handy burst heal <Breath of Life>. You have a quicker rez than anyone else which is nice addition, and access to a cleanse w/o having to PvP.

They get nerfed legit every single patch.

Templars or Stam Wardens are your best bet

I do agree with you, however, I can be a monster on my MagWard even though theyre underpowered. At least you wont run outta sustain (or hit top dps numbers)

Magicka Templars and Magicka wardens are good enough for all three roles, for non end game/competitive content. Easy way to go there, and both a really fun too, solid bets.

If someone was totally new, I´d suggest stamina templar. Rushed ceremony is good enough for a good portion of the levelling game (since the resource pools don´t really start to separate until later levels) that you can use it as a good self heal. So you get to play both with the stamina mobility and the magicka support. Then one can choose to specialise later.

And really; remember that you get respec scrolls from levelling and skills level quick as a cheetah once you hit lvl 50, so there´s no need to level as the character you intend to end up as.
