Underwater Content?

How do yall feel about underwater content?

I was surprised to discover there was no underwater content in this game. All the other games I play have this and it's a ton of fun and quite challenging because you have to watch out for hostiles coming from above and below. Underwater also increases your available zone area for questing and whatnot as you're able to use deeper lakes and the coastline. Honestly I really miss underwater content and wish they'd add it to this game.

Swimming and horseback riding are two things that game developers seem to never get right. Like the controls are always consistently horrible across all games for these two activities.

The engine doesn't support it.

And I've hated underwater gameplay in every game I've ever played.

I always hated it in wow, it really annoyed me. and its been asked before and ESO said the game was not designed to support it or flying in the future

Actually they did it pretty well in Morrowind & Skyrim. It was probably my first realized disappointment of ESO.

As stated, this has been ask for numerous times. The devs have said the engine is not designed for it, so it won't happen

UW combat is usually slow, awkward and boring. I'd rather have new areas of the map opened up.

Agree horseback riding and swimming were both good in Skyrim. Had not experienced it in other ESO games. The games I am thinking of are Witcher and Tomb Raider series. Where swimming etc were mandatory. There were few times I swam in Skyrim. And horseback riding was done very well. Especially when the horse could stand on an 89 degree cliff. Seriously, I appreciated that in that game.

Just like flying mounts, if they need cash the engine will suddenly "support" it.

Happened before on other MMOs I played where the devs used the engine as an excuse.

Underwater combat just doesn't work. It is not fun, fluid or engaging gameplay, just frustration.

The game engine can't handle it anyway. It's the same reason there will never be flying mounts unless they rebuild the game from the ground up.

UW Exploration is great, Underwater Combat, not so great. Besides, how are you going to swing a sword if your underwater?

Morrowind had some usable combat underwater, and had great exploration underwater. I don't need cool combat while swimming, I need to be able to dive down and see things and explore and loot and find clues.

I'm not against underwater content, especially if Argonians can take advantage of their natural water breathing ability, but I just don't see what the devs could do of value with it. Evading enemies seems cool, and could be a rarely seen take on stealth (risking drowning in return for not being seen clearly by enemies), and I also like the idea of the odd bit of plunder or mini-games. But conventional video game things such as combat and travel, I'm not so certain it'd be as fluid as one would hope.

I was surprised when I found out we couldn't go underwater at all in this game. I don't mind not having underwater combat, but it would be nice to be able to swim underwater and maybe find treasure chests and things. I enjoyed doing that in previous TES games, even if I did sometimes get very lost in the sea off Vvardenfell.

What is it with these underwater content threads? Not like they pop up that often but I really do not get it. Is it some kind of bandwagon all MMO devs have jumped on?

I really do not get how some scuba diving is better than another piece of solid land. And ZOS has been doing a great job at adding more zones to the game.

I would love this. The excitement of finding secret passages are rare treasure underwater in Oblivion was great. I the time I played BDO by far my favourite aspect was building a ship and going diving for rare trade good so I'd be all for this

I guess I was one of not many who loved Vashj'ir in WoW. For some reason, combat there was easier for me with lag than overland.

I'm not sure I'd love it in ESO though.

Tried it in another game (wow). Only did it on one character and then never went back on any other character.
Slow and clunky is how I best describe it.

In EQ2 it was one of the things they did right. There where even skills and crafted totems to support underwater adventuring.

Subnautica is a fun game and sold a lot of copies. That kind of positive underwater gaming experience will give some a hunger for more. There's not a lot available and it was possible albeit not terribly rich in Morrowind and Skyrim.

Many signs point to GW2's next expansion or maybe season of living story being underwater. Another reason it could be on people's minds presently.

I wish. I *loved* the underwater content in DDO. It was super fun, I would just swim around underwater and explore for the fun of it. I actually wished they had more to do underwater, like random encounters. But I did discover an underwater treasure cave that was pretty complicated to get to, and got an achievement. It was super easy to control, too, just the same as running, point and W.

EDIT : Before even reading my thoughts, may I direct peoples attention to a title called ABZU for underwater beauty. Stunning.

I'd like existing zones coastlines, lakes and reviews to allow for swimming and submerging with a developed aquatic environment, even if only for appearance, treasure hunting, resource gathering.

Lots of people in this thread seem to talk about what happened in another game as reason for why it's not suitable in any other game they play going forward. Which doesn't make sense. That's a reflection of the first game's inability to hone in what the exploration side could add.

Also, some others seemed inept at underwater combat.

Subnautica's an amazing game. Any underwater game I dig as I like to go diving in my weekends off the coast of Sydney, and there's lots to see - but if you have a look at the Steam forums. The amount of people who freak out about depth in a video game as it psychologically plays on them... that may also be a (hilarious) factor.

If it was done right it would be great. However, it is rather moot since we will not have underwater for the same reason we will not have flying mounts. The game lacks the axis to make it work.
