Is there no way to build a strong character on your own?

Is there any way to build a strong character either DPS or Tank that you can build solo? Non-cp. for PvP.

What do you mean with build solo? What do you need others for that except maybe farming gear easier?

You can build any character to do well in PvP solo. There is usually a trade off between tankiness (survivability) and damage, though. You will need to figure out what balance of you are looking for and go from there.

What I mean is; When I play Cyrodiil, (Kyne) I am always getting killed by someone that hit's me with so much damage in a second. Example: I see an enemy, they see me, we come at each other and with in 2 seconds I'm laying there dead and I only saw them make one move/attack then I check to see the damage they did and it's way beyond my hp's, and they hit me several times. But yet I only saw them do one attack. So please explain how are they doing that?

Even in kyne, you are often facing opponents with a fair amount of experience, running a build that is at least somewhat optimized.

Are you using multiple gearsets (and mostly impen trait)? Are you using decent food (and refreshing it whenever you level up)?

The "multiple attacks when you only see one" is animation cancelling or burst lineups. You'll need to learn at least the basics of that if you want to compete.

@DeadlyRecluse I run gear that I can craft sets that match either dps or tank, food is whatever the game offers me or can buy in the crown store what other option is there? The part about animation cancelling/burst lineups that is a new one on me and how does one deal with it?

In PvP you get hit when the client of your opponents and the server agree that you got hit, before you even know you got hit. mmorpgs are the most imbalanced form of pvp you'll find. If you want fair you'll need to find a game where you can form a lan party. Duke Nukem is a good one. I loved duke nukem lan parties. :)

Crafted sets I'd go with Shacklebreaker (light if mag, medium/heavy if stam), Hundings if stam & Julianos/Seducer if mag.

Stamina you have either Dubious throne (Health, Stam, Stam regen), Blue food (more Health & Stam, no regen) or tri food.
Magicka you have either Witchmothers (Health, Mag, Mag regen), Blue food (more health & stam, no regen) or tri food.

Animation cancelling is just doing a light attack and a skill together in the same cooldown (effectively 1 second), burst lineups come from e.g. a sorc will put prey on you (explodes after 3s), wrath (explodes when you're below 20%) then stun & frag you. In 1-2 seconds you're getting hit with 4 abilities and 1-2 light attacks. Have to either dodge or timed block these or you're likely rip.

@Red_Feather are you saying that if their ISP is better than mine I'm screwed? If yes I've already discovered that, lag has got me killed several times. My ISP doesn't support gaming and their the only company I have access too.

If you are on PC NA, send me a mail and I'll hook you up with some gear and better food. Players can craft food that is significantly better than what you'll find in-game (and a little better than crown store stuff.

Animation cancelling basics: there is a global cooldown (GCD)--you can't hit more than one ability in a GCD, but you CAN do more than one "action." For instance, if I light attack, then hit an ability, then hit bash, all 3 will land almost simultaneously--but you'll only see a split second of the ability and the bash. Or, a more common cancel at the moment is just light attack--skill. You'll see the skill, but not the light attack.

There's vids on youtube that will probably explain it better than I can via text.

Burst lineups is just using skills that deliver damage on delays so it all lands at once. For instance, Snipe has a looooong travel time. So I can cast snipe, then do a medium bow attack and a poison injection--they'll all land at roughly the same time.

Or, on templar, I can do Purifying light, wait a second, then cast dark flare, javelin, and radiant destruction. Purifying light takes 6 seconds to do it's burst of damage, so in that time I get the dark flare and javelin in the air--they move at different speeds, so they land at the same time as the beam from radiant destruction (which is instant) BOOM!

I have run towards a single lone dragonknight and dropped dead and the death recap shows multiple flame lashes when I saw only one. So I know that pvp is impossible for me, but I still do cyrodiil because it's a game and good way to waste life in between other things.

@DeadlyRecluse Now I get what you and SparrOw are talking about and I "try" to do that, but it never seems to work out. Also, thanks for the offer on gear but I want to be able to make gear on my own. I don't want anything given to me, I want to earn it. I'm just having a hard time figuring out how these guy's & gal's are kicking the living s*** out of me. The youtube videos are no help at all, they are way out dated or cover only cp780's. I only have one cp lvl character a cp300 and he can't do more than 2k dmg, needless to say I don't take him in to PvP, there's no point.

LMK if you change your mind--depending on how efficiently you've leveled your crafter, you might be at a severe disadvantage just based on your gear. And start leveling up provisioning on a character! Having trifood is great.

The youtube videos won't be specifically relevant, but the general principles (combos, animation cancelling tutorials) will still apply to any level of character.

...and once you get it geared up, you should be able to take your CP300 into Sotha Sil (noCP PvP) and be on an roughly equal footing with other people!

Google some PvP builds for your class. alcasthq.com has some popular ones and probably has one to fit your class. The gear, abilities, bars they go on, etc. are all important. They work together. For the PvE builds, the rotation he recommends is also important to get the max damage/sustain.

Hopefully your ping isn't too high.

I have played a lot of pugs and small group collected form zone chat Cryodil. I find that can be a lot of fun because you get to be the leader and make all the strategic plays. If you get nuked you just chat in group chat for a bit until someone Rez's you or you retreat.

4 people are enough to run around getting resources getting up to 12 and you can start flagging keeps, helping the alliance.

Cryodil is a huge war game got to play strategically, you want to solo or small-scale battlegrounds is better for that.

alcast is one of the plp I was taking about. All of those characters are cp780's with gear you can only get with groups. I've had no luck with groups, at least when playing on pc. Did all the trials and dungeons and everything that requires a group on xbox several times and never once ever got anything other than soul gems, foul hides and some gold. But never any gear. I've never been able to do groups on pc, (which is all I do now, no more xbox) I always get kicked out of the group. Either because I don't have discord or teamspeak, or I'm the low level. So this is why I asked the question in the first place. I group all the time when in Cyrodiil and as long as I'm in support, i.e. in the back fighting I'm ok. But as soon as I'm alone for some reason or on the front line, I die in 2 seconds even fighting plp that are half my level.

Getting rung like a bell when you first start pvping is very normal. Don't let it frustrate you. It's a lot to learn. Playing solo (truly solo, not just zerg surfing) is also the hardest kind of pvp unless you are a solitary ganker.

    1) You need to get geared specifically for pvp. Look for Battleground builds since those are noCP and are going to be more well-rounded.
    2) You need to get good consumables. Both crafted foods and potions are better than any you can loot or buy in the crown store or with AP.

I'd second Deadly's offer to send you a care package -- most of us had people lend us a hand when we were starting and are happy to pass it on -- but if you want to earn them, you can purchase them from other players at any major guild trader hub. Some essential potions don't get listed often because they don't sell well, so you'll need to craft those when you start adding detect pots and invis pots to your quickbar. You want to level provisioning and alchemy on all your characters anyway for the passives.

Next step I'd recommend is casual dueling. If you go to the duelling hubs in game right away you will just get lit up there, too. Duel friends who are also learning. Once you get more comfortable go watch at the duelling hubs. Ask a few questions.

Of course most of Cyrodiil is not random 1v1 matchups, but understanding what animations and such you are seeing is going to help a lot when you see some guy charging at you.

Oh nvm, I see you want to group. What class and faction?
