Excess ultimate points

What happens when you use an ultimate while you have excess ultimate?

For example I have the warden ultimate Northern Storm, it costs 200 ultimate, what happens when I cast it with 500 ultimate points stored up?
The ultimate points all get used but is the excess just wasted? Or does the ultimate have an additional effect because of them?
EU: Magden, Magknight, Stamsorc(*2), Magsorc
NA: Magplar, Magden, PotatoBlade

There are different ultimate abilities that function differently, but in most cases yes, you use ultimate and all of it gets used up, regardless of how much you had and what the cost of it is, without any additional effect. So do use them as soon as possible for maximum benefit.

    Exceptions are:
    1. Overload (sorcerer ultimate) that once triggered it just transforms your light and heavy attacks and is used up slowly as you use those attacks, so it makes sense to stack it up as high as possible.
    2. In the update coming next week (I think?) one of the nightblade ultimates will gain an additional effect if you have more than the minimum amount of ultimate that you need to use the skill, though beyond the threshold where you acquire the additional effect it functions just like a standard ultimate.

Yes its wasted unless you run the Balorgh monstrr set or you use an ult such as overload that gradually consumes ult.
