I don't understand the request. Longsword is a 1 handed sword. Aren't you asking for greatswords which also already exist in game?

Now if you're asking for a 1handed weapon line (just one 1h sword, no shield or dw), then that I would love to see.

No, actually a Longsword is a so called 1&1/2 handed sword or also sometimes called a *** sword.

The blade is narrow and light, It is possible to use it in one hand if you re strong enough but is intended to be used as two handed weapon in duels or man on man combat, the weapon, when used properly, is very agile and is one of the first long bladed medieval weapons used for thrusting counterattacks after parrying or deflecting foes attacks.
Look up Tallhoffer or Mayer longsword manuscripts. There are even techniques when you free one hand to grab oponents arm or torso to perform disarms or takedowns.

Its a usual missconception that people believe that broadsword and Longseword are both mainly one handed weapons of different shapes, but they are not. They differ quite obviously.

Edit: historical examples greatswords coming from medieval europe than would be Lancknechten greatsword which was primarily used to cleave trought lines of pikemen and their long pikes, Lancknechts used a sideweapon, broadsword, for close quarters and man to man combat.

    Edit 2:

Only thing this game needs are katanas, Increase Weapon Critical by 10% when equipped. Just like daggers, but two handed.
Longsword type of weapon in 2h skill line would actually fit into this concept quite accurately. Shapes could differ from typical medieval europe to katanas as well.
Not to mention in ESO lore and games Katanas and Dai-Katanas are quite common weaons since TES: Arena

I miss only two kind of weapons from the game. The first is a one hand sword which is on our back and that's all without any secondary. Like in the Witcher series. It looks cool. I just don't like the robust two handed swords in this game. The other thing is fighting bare hand, obviously with magic. So a magicka character without staff would be great.

It's a quick idea while I am writing this post, but there could be skill lines that prefer if you LACK a weapon from one hand or from both.

You would loose 1 or 2 piece set bonus, but maybe the skill line could compensate. There would be skills which you can use only if you have bare hands or holding only one handed sword/axe/dagger/mace and your other hand is empty.

Sry, but I juz don't really think katanas fit in, coz most of the Tamriel uses two-edges blade, unlike Bosmer and Redguard. But still, they can put katana's motif into Longsword, coz katana is basically longsword but with one edges, cuz u know, katana is a sword and has a long length, so longsword.

Isn't the soul shriven sword a katana? At least the 2hd resembles one I think.

The reasons for me to suggest this is because this longsword is much more easier to be implemented, as it can still use the old model and remodeled a bit with shorten the length and narrow the blades.

The skills also can just use existing skill but with much more faster animation, and in bonus, just only need to add one more passive which is 10% critical rate. The LA/HA also should be more faster and overall could be less clunky.

This is by far, the most easiest to implement a in a current game, as everything has already in the game, and that is why I suggest it.

Many people would like new weapon and yes I admit, I also do want it, but is it easy to implement? We should takes motif into account, as developer needs to design tons motif for let says, orbs or books to implement one handed and magic.

If you want, you can also added that this longsword scale with the highest offensive stats, make it viable for melee mag thus increasing the varieties and flavors in ESO.

So @ZOS_GinaBruno please take this into consideration as this is by far the easiest thing in terms of new weapon type to be implemented compare to others.

Historically, most things that are slung on the back were not things to be used regularly. Someone might have had a backup weapon on their back especially if they did not expect to be in a fight (like marching in friendly territory).

As far as new skills, there are so many suggestions I'd rather see than a modification to dual wielding that brings almost nothing new to the game. What you're suggesting is something that makes light attack spamming better, and that's about it.

So, no to your idea, at least as presented in your original post. 🍺

    Greetings,
