A silly joke was almost worth 40 minutes of aimlessly riding in circles

The mammoth meat gathering in the rift started off really trite sounding 'guy will salt the meat, but you have to get it from the mammoths yourself.' Just like I'm sure every single other person who played this game thought, I rode to the circles and started killing mammoths. Nothing dropped on the first, nothing dropped on the fifth, and nothing dropped on the tenth. Around then, however, I notice a red pile sitting next to a tree. Ok, so instead of the obvious I need to collect piles of meat. Sounds dumb, but I ride around in circles looking for more and turns out they are incredibly rare and several other people are trying to complete the same quest. I tried creating a group in zone chat and we didn't even share the meat we found. This was a pretty poorly executed daily. It might not be bad if other people stop doing it and you get 100% of the meat, but dang...

I got mine by killing mammoths and the world boss mammoth and then 1 from a ‘meat node’ as you say. It’s very frustrating though.

Really? I wonder if there is some programming glitch where mammoths in a certain area don't drop meat then.

I can confirm that. For me, meat didnt drop from Mammoth kills in the western area, but meat DID drop from Mammoth kills in the eastern area.

Big circle on the map confirms that only the special mammoths of a certain area provide this type of meat. ESO being racist again...

I was in the western circle. What a silly mistake for ZoS to make. I wonder if the circle was only supposed to show where the final quest guy was, but they had it up during the wrong part of the quest.

    Murkmire prologue dailies.

I find it a little annoying that mammoths don't guarantee a drop, since they all should have meat. But still this quest is over relatively fast for me, even using the western circle.

just to shut all this down.

Did this quest on both days, neither of the days was I anywhere near those circles.

Found a group of 4 mammoths, killed them, got my meat and moved on.

All this time watching people running back and forth like chickens with their heads cut off to the big circles.

Tl;Dr: Any mammoth in the rift will drop the meat, just run around until you find a non populated area (of humans) and look for giants.

If you see giants, mammoths are nearby. They are like the little-bo-peep of ESO mammoths.

Tl;dr really weigh the fun you have in game vs the business practices you are supporting.

I'm sure it's like the Clock work dailies. Just go farm the meat without the quest and store some up. I know on the crow dailies that the items for the daily had like a 50% less drop chance if you had the daily.

The mammoths weren't hard to find but I probably killed like 20 without a single meat drop. I had to get all 10 riding around trying to find the meat nodes. Either I had the worst stretch of RNG or there is something borked about the mission or both.

I did that quest three times. The first time, the drop rate was so insanely low from mammoths that I was thinking it was just a 5% drop rate or so to get the meat. The last two times, though, meat dropped literally with every kill. I have no idea what was causing the problem, but the RNG is screwy on that quest.

My guess is it was glitched and there was a stealth fix. Most the complaints I have seen about meat not dropping was from people trying the quest very early after it became available.

You can get all 6 every day from the quest giver. No need for sharing

So far, I've had mammoths drop one, but never zero, meat. I try to spend my time away from the marked quest areas, but Nimalten has always been good to me.
