Will we ever see Maelstrom weapon alternatives? (It's 2018.....)

Lets be real here. The Maelstrom weapons have been out for quite some time now and the majority of the players have issues/struggles with VMA. Don't get me wrong I think its wonderful when people can actually accomplish VMA; good on ya. But if you look up almost any build, You are guaranteed to see a Maelstrom weapon attached to it for the end game builds/ maximum dps.

Will we ever see Maelstrom equivalent type weapons? Some people just dont like to do arena's, Its a shame these types of weapons dont drop in vet trial Group dungeons etc. Why isolate people to do vMaelstrom to get the weapons required for max dmg output., why must it be only this arena? I would like to see more alternatives . Anyhow thats just my opinion; again Im not saying nerf or take away VMA, not saying put these weapons in other places for people to collect, its been years, alternative weaopons that are just as good as VMA would be appreciated by now.

Hiya. I of course mean this respectfully. I sincerely hope not, because if players put time and effort into beating vMA, it wouldn't be fair to have an equivalent that is equally as strong but easier to get. That would make vMA rather useless, unless you like the titles and polymorph that much. I think you can have perfectly viable builds that do very nice DPS without Mael, but people who busted their ass to get it should definitely enjoy the boost it gives

I just want to see non-perfect versions drop in Normal for Maelstrom (and only drop in purple, of course). Put the old bonuses like weapon/spell damage and magicka/stamina buffs on the perfect vMA versions (retroactively change the old gear) and give an imperfect version without the bonuses for those that don't want to run vMA, but still want to have a slight DPS buff. Heck, even make the imperfect versions slightly weaker on top of not having bonus stats (like 10% or something) than what you can get currently, and I'd be happy.

I voted no. If you want those weapons you must earn them. I've completed it many times without getting the weapons I want, but I would never ask for an easy mode to obtain them. I don't people running around with slightly nerfed versions either, that's unless the game throws a clown polymorph on people who use them :-). BTW, it's 2018, why haven't you completed VMA yet? :-D

Hello, thank you so much for your answer! Yeah, I thought about that myself but I think an achievement rank should be good enough, perhaps a New character skin or other bonuses for the achievement (perhaps a house even -.o )but to be the only over-powered dmg weapons basically cripples the rest of the player commuity trying to get to end game content. I know many people that just dont like arenas, this shouldn't be the only place to acquire them. Trust me i know what you are talking about, I busted butt to finally get VMA done but variety is key to an mmo and this feels very lackluster; very limiting. I agree though people that finish VMA should get something for their troubles, but not some of the best weapons in the game we don't get to see anywhere else.

I hate vMA and It took me a year to complete vma taking breaks. When i finally beat it it was more so learning the spawns to be able to farm. Many many many runs later i got everything i needed. It's a huge pain but you push through.

Now i'm all for people being able to push out good DPS with good sets. There is a YouTuber Donwozi who does give other options while still hitting some really good numbers without the vma weapons. I mean his numbers aren't too far off then people who actually have vma weapons. There are other options.

I find it funny people keep saying i haven't completed VmA, Do I have to always state I completed VMA before posting? Seemingly so or people will have a good 'ol time thinking automatically the negative and assuming. Yes, I have completed vMA.

I'd say that some time down the road we will see something better, at least situationally better. It wouldn't make much sense for people to be farming 10+ year old content for endgame gear and never have to find anything better ever. I'm of the mind that all sets should be good under certain circumstances and that no one particular set should always be the best option. That limits choices.

Again, not these weapons particularly. I also never said everyone. You keep putting words in my mouth. People should be included in end game content, i never said to just give them away. Put equivalent weapons in other HM areas and not just Maelstrom.

Definitely, variety is spice of life, there should be multiple ways to get the best sets.

I have never understood the attitude that the reward is the key motivator for content. Or that those who don’t like - or can’t do -certain content like vMA don’t ‘deserve’ the best gear. What is wrong with the challenge being the motivator why does it have to be the reward?

Frankly if every player was gifted vMA weapons it wouldn’t bother me. I am not going to be annoyed they didn’t go through hours of torture just because I had to.

Yes but that arena should be solo and just as hard as vMA and boosting an other skill. Let's say the Poison Arrow so it will be more of a single target boost rather than an AOE as Hail.

Anyway as far as I know vMA bow giving like 2k DPS more so it is good for end-game but not essential for non-hardcore players.

I didn't say you didn't complete. It was a broad statement for people who haven't completed the content. I'm assuming you're suggesting put the weapons in 4 person content. That would be giving them away because you can get carried through 4 man content. I've carried bad people through skin runs, vet trials and VDSA etc etc...It's too easy.

The arena is there for the challenge and the weapons are the birthday cake. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely hate farming that junk pile of an arena, but having an easier way to get " Not as good" copies of the originals, it's kind of a cop out to getting better items without having to put in much effort.

The builds you refer are listing BiS gear, or what the poster considers BiS since there is some variance here and there., Some builds to post alternative gear and Alcast probably does this the best. So alternatives are mentioned.

With that there are several things.

1. When Zos gave all 2H weapons two set bonus slots it did reduce the advantage of the vMA weapons.
2. It has been suggested that nMA coujld give out the current vMA weapons and vMA could give out Perfectd vMA weapons which would grant the old constant stat as they used to do. Of course this means the Perfected vMA would be the new BiS but most everyone will be able to obtain an imperfect vMA.
3. Master Bow may be a decent alternative though not sure how it stacks up after 2H weapons gained the second set bonus slot.

Because getting equivalent weapons outside of vMA would trivialize vMA.

And I think it was just the luck of the draw that the vMA weapons still outperform anything else. We’re really only talking about the destro staff and the bow here because those are the ones people use.

When ZOS started implementing ability altering weapons, they began so with the first ability in each skill line. vMA weapons where the second generation of such weapons so they augmented the second skill in each skill line. It just so happens that the second abilities were Wall of Elements and Volley. Both of which are staples of magicka and stamina DPS respectively. Both are able to be placed on the back bar allowing the player to complete a 5-piece set on the front bar to maximize DPS.

You will be hard pressed to find another 1pc set that increases damage as much as those two weapons. And it has little to do with the content, but rather more to do with the (un)luck of the draw to be the second generation of such a weapon.

I agree it will eventually happen, I think its about time to see newer weapons in other places in the game on hard mode that are just as good as Vmael. would love to see what the devs come up with, equivalent gear for certain situations in the stats. Also when you get all the VMael weapons, now what? They need to keep more weapons coming out. This is inevitable, for example cp 160 will not be the cap forever, it will obviously go higher in the future.

oh, no no no lol, That is why i said Vet Trial groups, a trial is 12 people. Yeah, eventually though the CP 160 will rise and maelstrom will be obsolete anyway i believe. Im just trying to see other peoples perspectives on this.

They should just introduce new Imperfect Maelstrom Weapons for normal and give the stat bonus back for the Perfect versions. Everybody wins.

No, it's hard to complete vma, but if u dedicate yourself and time to it, it's not that impossible. It's all about finding those skills u need to use at the right times, small mistake - you're dead. But once you get that muscle memory it all comes naturaly. It took me 3 months to grind it , Non stop, everyday 1-2 hours, to get the mechanics, to find a build, skills the right ones I needed. The first time I completed it I was soooo happy, it gave me not just a game experience, but a lifetime lesson, that if u dedicate yourself you can do anything and I was like you thinking that it's impossible to do.

If we get an easy alternative, there will be no point to do VMA , there will be no solo Hardcore mode in eso, that gives you reward, in this case weapons. Everything will be easy to get...

I never said anything about an easier alternative. Even a trial HM vet mode where you would get a 10% chance on getting 1 piece of a weapon out of 100 needed before you could construct it would be fine by me. Not saying easier, just other alternative weapons just as good as Maelstrom in other just as hard as maelstrom arena / dungeons.

Sword, Mace & Shield
(2 Piece) Add 1029 Max Stamina
Enemies damaged by Pierce Armor also are afflicted with Minor Magickasteal and Minor Staminasteal.

Dagger and Axe
(2 Piece) Add 833 Weapon Critical
Enemies damaged by Hidden Blade are given a bleed that causes 5000 Physical Damage over 3 seconds.

Bow
(2 Piece) Add 129 Stamina Recovery
Enemies damaged by Volley take an extra 1200 damage from your light/heavy attacks

Destruction Staff
(2 Piece) Add 129 Spell Damage
Enemies afflicted with Elemental Drain are also afflicted with Minor Staminasteal

Restoration Staff
(2 Piece) Add 129 Magicka Recovery
When critically hearing with Mutagen, you heal for an extra 1500. This can occur every 2s.
