Is ESO still a button masher?

I quit playing around the time Dragon Bones released and had cleared all content available at that point. During that time I felt that once you had mashed your rotation into a target dummy, you had seen pretty much everything the game had to offer: Every battle and trial was just mashing the same rotation with a different backdrop. Is ESO of today any different? I really like the world of Elder Scrolls, but the core mechanic (or lack of it) really pushed me away.

It really seems that after clearing vMA, vAS+2, vHoF HM and vMoL HM with speed runs you got bored.

It is hard to imagine how anyone who has cleared all those fights would equate them to doing ones rotation on a target dummy unless they were really that good and still hard to imagine.

So yes, it seems more that you got bored which usually has more to do with the groups we play with and other factors.

When was this game ever a button masher? The brief period where you could just stack and burn trial mechanics? That's been over for like a year and a half.

I don't lag in battlegrounds, but I must agree Siege weapons simulator is pretty laggy.

Seems like a half-assed attempt to troll. You didn't like the game and left. Now you're back to get a reaction from folks. Game has never been a button masher. Not really sure if any mmo can really be considered as such. Also kinda doubt you ever got through any vet dlc dungeons.

Yeah, I guess you might be right. I felt like everything in the game was just DPS and button presses that had to be executed with extreme precision to reach it.

I highly recommend BG's. They are fast, no drama, fun combat environments. There is no time for tbag or rage whispers

Exactly. The core of enjoying an MMORPG is the group you run with. Even if you were in a group capable of clearing the newest and more challenging content that does not mean it would be the best group for you to run with.

Now, of course ESO, like any MMORPG, requires us to press buttons since our character just kind of stands there picking it's nose if we do not. But the newer content you alluded to clearing is more about working with the mechanics than anything else. Less about pure DPS, more about less dying.

I used to be a button-masher in this game. But it's more akin to how a newbie at a fighting game is usually a button masher. It works, but a skilled player that actually knows what buttons to press and why will always do better. But reading your post, it sounds like you consider structured rotations to be button mashing. I'm defining button mashing as playing by spamming skills and attacks in a panic trying to stay alive.

So I guess the answer to your question is "no". The meta and by extension your rotation is always changing. And I don't think memorized rotations work in PvP as well as they do in PvE.

... this game is blatantly hostile to attempting to be a button masher and has been since before One Tamriel and when VR were still a thing. Are we playing the same game?

PvP is far better as long as you can enjoy it and realize you're not playing a esport "balanced" game.

Just in case this is not a troll post, what MMO or game would not be considered a button smasher? I don't understand what the original poster is trying to say.

As much as people like to talk up trials on HM it's one of those things that are enjoyable at first because it's difficult, but once you've beaten it, it gets stale quickly. PvP is the only content that's able to maintain my interest. New competitive PvE content can be enjoyable though.

I think the title of your post should be "Is ESO still not a button masher?"

A button masher imo is something like mortal combat. You mash buttons...there are different ways to look at the mashing of buttons but I think every way or at least every way other than the way you described is button mashing. If you press the same exact buttons over again the same way every time in every situation then you have mastered the game (PvE) so you aren't really mashing so much as casually pressing keys ad infinitum. If you try PvP then there is a human element and maybe button mashing.

If ESO is not a button masher, then why have I broken so many keys on my keyboard?

All my keys are in the wrong places now. :) The U key is actually the E key, they K key is really the S key and some of my keys have no letters and not sure what those keys are. :)

Whether you are mashing buttons in a frenzy to stay alive, or mashing buttons in a refined rotation as well as dodging and blocking or button mashing e to get through the quest chat options faster, ESO is still a button masher game in those regards.

However, there are a whole host of other activities you can enjoy now like playing dress-up barbie or house decorator that are not as button-mashing intensive so in that regard no.
