Random Disconnects that are making the game unplayable

Since the last patch (I think on Monday) anytime I play I will get random disconnects that would send me to the login screen every 10 to 30 minutes. I read here that there were possible solutions to it and I applied every one of them:
  • Flushing DNS
  • Restoring ProgramData folder
  • Repairing the game
  • Restoring UserSettings file
  • Disabling addons
  • Reinstalling the game

But nothing worked. The funny thing is that my roommate also plays ESO on his computer and he can spend hours playing without disconnects or random lag spikes. So our ISP is out of the question here. Even funnier is that if he uses his account on my computer, he would be able to play for hours as I said before, but if my account is used on his computer the same thing happens: random 999+ ping spikes and disconnects to the login screen.

My question is: is this a way ZOS have of discouraging people to play the game? Like a strange psychological way of making someone stop playing the game but not banning them but making them get fed up with the disconnects. I think it would be the only logical explanation to the problems I'm facing because sincerely I'm going crazy trying to solve this.

BONUS: After reinstalling the game I tried to play without any AddOn, as if it were a clean install. Well, now I'm being kicked even faster than before. No more than 10 minutes of playing before it will disconnect me and send me to the login screen. I even tried playing with the Bethesda Launcher as well as through Steam, nothing works.

Please, do not use a copy-paste response telling me something about my ISP or ports in the router because if you pay attention can see that my roommate is playing without any trouble (he is even using wifi while I use a cable plugged to the router). It is something related to the game server / my account in the server or something like that.

I can’t help your issue but the list of things you’ve been told to try are all BS. Designed to get you to waste time so the next shift has to deal with your response.

Flush the dns client cache to fix disconnects? Lol. Would only be useful if ZOS suddenly changed their server IPs while you were playing. And the issue would resolve itself after the TTL of the DNS record passes. Usually an hour. And that record is usually only queried once and wouldn’t result in disconnects. But maybe ZOS queries dns on every single connection attempt. Who knows. They probably use nameserver proxy like OpenDNS or CloudFlare that would handle IP changes transparently to users anyway. As in, your local dns cache wouldn’t be a problem. I’m not at a PC to confirm if they do.

The fact you were even told to do that demonstrates the person suggesting it was wasting your time. Rather than take a logical approach to the problem, they took a throw everything at the wall and see what sticks approach.

I stopped reading at the list. I skimmed the rest. Since your roommate on the same LAN (I assume) and internet connection doesn’t get the disconnects. And the rest of the players don’t get them. The issue is probably your PC or somewhere between your PC and your router/firewall/switch/soho gateway/modem/derpbox. Whatever they are calling those these days. They mostly do all those roles these days.

Do you wire into your network or use wireless? Does your roommate wire in or do wireless? I assume you are not segregating your traffic with vlans or using any QoS given that you’re asking the question to begin with.

I wire into my network while my roommate use wireless. But also take into account that if he uses his account in my computer he doesn't get disconnects while I do if I use my account on his computer. This is why I think it could be server side or account related.

Okay. You guys didn’t setup any port forwarding rules trying to fix this did you? You don’t need to forward any ports for this to work. Unless you block outbound connections on some ports. Which is highly unlikely.

I ask because someone recently spoke of forwarding ports as a fix and I face palmed and went on a rant that ZOS is making ignorant suggestions that will break a scenario where two people play the game on the same LAN. Forwarding ESO ports is going to break your NAT and make both of you unable to play at the same time.

No, I didn't touch router settings because everything was working fine until last patch and I guess it didnt make sense to change to change the ports as that was clearly not the problem.

I just tried to play again while my roommate is playing with no addons again and after checking game files. I was 10 minutes inside the game and then a disconnect. Meanwhile my roommate has been playing non-stop for about 2 hours without lag or anything.

You need to state where you play. Platform and server for starters.

I would also suggest putting in an actual tech support ticket as you can get more personalized help that way. They may end up asking for you to run the Game Consultant and provide the report as it provides a lot of information that can tell them what may be occurring. It is not practical to offer that information here.

I think the link below ends up leading to being able to create a ticket.

PC EU but yeah, I guess the only thing left is submitting a ticket and praying to Akatosh.

Man, yeah if it's not something simple like a bad patch cable (network cable) or wireless issues, then file a ticket. It sounds like your troubleshooting steps so far have ruled out your PC and your network. Since you said the same happens when you and your friend swap computers (he stays connected and you disconnect). That rather completely rules out anything local to your network or game installation... :/
