You can report them, amd they do remove them eventually, but it takes a while and repeated reports, and different bots show up in a short while. Its discouraging.

ZOS removed some bots from Bal Foyen on PC/NA about a month ago, but there were different bots soon after.

Word to the wise, if you farm as a level 3 in Bal Foyen, don't wear your starter island gear and if you notice another player shadowing you, do something to indicate that you are human.

Or you'll get banned for botting even though you are not a bot? Is that how justice works nowadays? Starting out the game by farming is not a bad idea actually, it can give you some much needed gold if you spend some hours doing it. I sincerely do not hope legitimate farmers gets banned because ZOS just assumes because some shortsighted player thought he knew it all and filed a report.

No. Players report bots. They don't ban them. What is being suggested is that the player will get reported, not banned. This is a waste of time, if the reported player is not a bot.

If the person doing the reporting is on the ball... it is as hard for a bot to pretend to be a person as it is for the person to be mistaken for a bot. They are very different, and it is pretty obvious, once you know what to look for.
If ZOS had in-game GMs, this wouldnt happen as much as it does

If ZOS had in-game GMs, botting would happen about as much as it does today. The main difference is that we would know they have in-game GMs. ZOS would still have to spend time fiddling around before they could remove them from the game. We don't want them going all Judge Dredd on people.

(Edit: and to be clear, ZOS could never afford to pay as many in-game GMs as they have players reporting bots)

Have you ever observed bots before?

Its not hard to tell. They really don't move like humans. If Im following someone, I take to time to watch their movement and how they follow a preset path. Running exactly the same path every time I see them. Precise right angle turns. Running straight to a recently taken node and waiting there for a brief period before noving on their path. Things like that. Over time, it all adds up, especialy if they are level 3 and their name is a gibberish string.

But not everyone takes the time to make sure. So, you know, there's that problem.

So yes, if you are a legitimate farmer wearing starter gear and you name is a gibberish string, I do highly recommend that you do something to indicate you are human if you notice a player shadowing you. (Whrich you will notice, because you are an actual player and thats hard to miss.) Because if you move like a bot over an extended period of time, I'm going to to report you and let ZOS sort it out.

You can tell when it’s a bot it’s easier to tell when it’s 2-7 “players” all in a perfect line, all the same class, all spamming the same attacks and running in a big circle.
It’s very hard to miss 5 Templars all using just jabs or 3 Nightblade all with Dark Shades bot are nearly impossible to miss.

As to the concept of fair-farming: ever see players with 750CP running around stealing mats from level 8 players in training zones? Or is this what you call botting?

The logic-fail here is to assume that ZOS see botting as a problem to be fixed.

Yes ban all the bots and watch the price of mats skyrocket. Lol. Sure some players do enjoy farming. But not nearly enough to supply the demand of the entire player base. Bots fulfill a need, which is why they exist in the first place. If zoe made it so mats were easier to acquire then and only then would we seen a decline in the amount of bots in the game.

You just made a pro botting argument, and I couldn't disagree more. Bots are bad, not good. Higher prices are totally acceptable if it means fewer cheaters. Bots are cheating, and nobody should be ok with them.

@andromedafalls ... ZOS has already said that botting is against the rules. More than once. That isn't an issue. The issue is what bots tbey choose to take action against, and how fast they do it.
