Content idea: world bosses

Joeaugusta42b14_ESO
I’m not sure if this is the right place to post this, and I’m not sure if anyone has had a similar recommendation.. but i have an idea regarding community overland bosses.

I feel like the current world bosses are so easy to the point that most of them become sort solo able.

I think it would be a great idea to add massive bosses in different zones that really require a ton of people to take down. These bosses could maybe drop unique very rare items.. The bosses could work on a timer system say they spawn once every hour or two.

Im talking like very strong bosses that take 20+ players to take down. I think this would add a lot of incentive for players to complete overland content. I just think that delves and world bosses and dolmens are becoming so stale imo

What are your thoughts?

For example in alikr desert you could have a massive worm like boss that burrows into the sand and spawns smaller worms

Couldn’t agree more. The game has become more and more about getting the new 2 motif styles from 2 local DLC world-bosses and less about content that is still rewarding for years to come. ESO could really use more incentives to do the random stuff like bosses/dailies, and not just the ones from the latest DLC.

The way you described is what i think is what world bosses, dolmens and geysers should be like. Let people come together, at set times for great rewards, instead of fighting over a minor treasure chest.
  • Joeaugusta42b14_ESO
Right! It’s like the base game stuff is so irrelevant now. I have no incentive to roam around and do most of the content. It’s just doing daily grinds that I’ve done a thousand times. They add “new content” but it really isn’t new it’s just a new zone or dungeon or motif but all the content is really the exact same

Ontop of the boss idea I think just adding “living events” where events randomly pop up in zones and players can work with each other to complete them.. simple things like that would add so much life to the game. Imagine a zone event pops up.. and the event is a town being over run by daedra... players have to work together to protect the town

Imagine the zone crashing after it's announced in zone chat that one of those bosses is up and hundreds of players all try to load into that area. :/

    Silivren (Silly) Thalionwen | Altmer Templar | Magicka | 9-Trait Master Crafter/Jeweler | Master Angler | PVE Main - Killed by U35
Jahsul at-Sahan | Redguard Sorcerer | Stamina | Werewolf - Free Bites | PVP Main
Derrok Gunnolf | Redguard Dragonknight | Stamina | Werewolf - Free Bites
    Liliana Littleleaf | 9-Trait Grand Master Crafter/Jeweler (non-combat)
Amber Emberheart | Breton Dragonknight | Stamina | Master Angler
Vlos Anon | Dunmer Nightblade | Magicka | Vampire - Free Bites
Kalina Valos | Dunmer Warden | Magicka | Vampire - Free Bites
    Swiftpaws-Moonshadow | Khajiit Nightblade | Stamina
Morgul Vardar | Altmer Necromancer | Magicka

Haha yeah that’s a definite issue. However, if they added living events to every zone. And multiple of the type. One particular event wouldn’t get over crowded. Such things as a massive boss however probably would lol

All your suggestions sounds like copy and paste from how Guild Wars 2 have been running with world bosses and zone events.

I am against that ESO would go down that path simply because it would cut off a lot of players to go those zones and it would demand a high degree of coordination both from how game engine work on a timer basis for events including WB and force player to wait until event star, not to forget how these larger groups need to with together with a "commander”. We don't have these tools in this game even for doing raids.

In Guilds Wars 2 there where zones that people stopped go because it took time until event started (and some zones where closed until main boss had been killed - a timer would start until player would get kicked out of zone and reset event) and other places rewarded zergs more then the older zones, so they moved on to the new zones.

It is also hard to get performance to work with such large groups and ESO have not been designed to handle PvE zergs with the way visual art and performance need to work together. Cyrodiil is a good example on what you can expect independent of it being PvP or PvE zone for how this game can handle large groups and activities.

Not a fan. I avoid trials and PvP in part because large numbers of players and the visual effects cause lag and I can barely tell what's gling on.

Nice idea in theory, but in a lot of zones, you struggle to find a group to get to take down a world boss now, and for us players who aren't incredibawesome, we can't do them solo.

Don't buff normal alliance zone WBs. They are in a good spot now in that a good player can solo them or help younger players.

Adding additional bosses who are 'superbosses'? No interest to me but that is kind of what you have now in the Chapter/DLC zones - up to +7 million hitponts worth of boss in some cases. I say no interest because I don't like playing 'herd ball'. If you want to know what I mean by 'herd ball', go watch a group of 6 year olds play soccer. . . or visit any dolmen in the Alikr Desert any time of the day or night. ;)
PC NA(no Steam), PvE, mostly solo

The DLC world bosses are a decent challenge solo. I quite enjoy the current model (as long as no one else jumps in to help!).

The big world bosses that need 20+ people in other games end up being trivial fights anyway as it's just about stacking DPS.

Every MMO copied the world boss/World Event idea from Warhammer Onlines Public Quests and they probably stole it from someone else.

Just because someone else did it doesn't mean ESO can't do something similar, and the game needs more content people can coop outside of organized groups.

    What are your thoughts?

The landscape content on this game is too easy generally. World Bosses are really the only interesting solo content there is while questing.

I'm not opposed to your idea of adding new world bosses that are too difficult to solo. But I'm not that excited about it either.

I would prefer they bring back some version of veteran zones so higher level characters could actually enjoy a decent challenge while questing. That would improve my enjoyment of the game more than adding HNMs would.

I think having timed zone mega bosses would be kinda cool. Limited to 1 kill a day with a reward/token to turn into a undaunted enclave leader. Just have the bosses be zone themed and require a ton of people to kill. Or let a HUGE oblivion portal open up and a oversized mega boss spawn.Or just let The players go through The portal to fight oversized spooky creatures and dragons. The overland bosses serve their purpose and are pretty easy to solo.

My idea of Oversized mega bosses are similar to the world bosses like in Guild Wars 2 btw :)

It would be neat if those very powerful beings roamed the zone and had environmental affects, or legions of lackeys, that covered the zone areas around them (like green poison gas or tons of zombies).
This way zone would have to communicate on where the boss was to everyone first.

New players would also freak out seeing them for first time, and have to play around the super bosses.

I think it's a cool idea! Who cares if other games have done something similar? What if the mega boss popped up in a random spot throughout the map and everyone had to rally to kill it within a twenty minute timeframe?

Even though I haven't touched guild wars 2 since getting ESO, I do think it does some fun things like guild bounties.
May I post a video just to illustrate the concept of it?
