A few notes on music boxes

Just few notes on the new music boxes that will be coming out:
* There is one available on PTS to try out.
* Available through crown store at this time. Not sure if it will be available for writs.
* It's an area effect that fills up roughly the size of the front yard of the new Lake Xanmeer house. You won't be able to hear it throughout a big home unless you get more than one.
* Speaking of which, you can place more than one in your house and have them all play simultaneously.
* Each box plays one song.
* You can buy multiple boxes that play the same song, and play them at the same time, but you won't be able to sync them up as the start time is dependant on when you open the box and you can't open them all at the same time (only a careabout if you're trying to play the same song in different adjacent areas of the house)
* Sadly you can't stream your local music (probably due to licensing issues).
* When playing a music box, normal background music fades out first. There's a pleasant crossfade when leaving the area of effect of box back to the normal background music.
* Size of the box a little bigger than the jesters box. It fits nicely on a table or shelf and opens like a treasure chest when you play it.
* The one song currently available is very nicely done in my opinion. It's part of the ESO music library on terms of the tune, but has a slightly more music boxish tone to it.
* You can preview the music in the crown store before you buy.
* No word yet on Red Diamond. Keep your fingers crossed.

I REALLY wanted for these to be buyable with crafting writs, or the recipe to craft one. Very sad. I wanted them to bring life to my homes

You can judge for yourself. IMO they are tastefully done, but I would prefer the ability to let the user set the area of effect up to the entire house, and add the ability to play your own music if possible. That would be ideal for parties.

I mean seriously cant sync them and the sound fades after some distance kinda lame as hell its like we want musoc boxes because the music in the zones with the coolest houses suck or is non exsistant..

Soo... they original main menu theme. I was always a fan of that. Sadly I don't spent a lot of time in my house so I will probably just add the song to my external playlist if I get my hands of it.

Every now and then I walk into my Sleek Creek house and hear some guy singing Red Diamond. I even captured a clip of it. If I step outside it goes away, I'm pretty sure it isn't my banker or merchant singing, although they do say things to me from time to time.

Was hoping they'd make these achievement furnishings. Some other games have music boxes that you work towards.

Getting a bit old to see everything new or interesting ending up in the crown store.

Can you hear these if you have music turned off in audio settings? Are they technically considered a sound effect or game music?

This is... not what I was hoping for. I was hoping to be able to use the music boxes as a way to change the backgroung music in a certain area of my home. But now it looks like that won't be possible.
It is very unfortunate that we can't set the area for it.
And since each box only plays one song we sadly can't build our own soundtrack.
Also, from what I've read, we always need to activate it first. A pity. I had hoped to have a different music play automatically in different areas of my home to give each room it's own flavor. Well they sure can be auto activated with an addon but I really think that sould have been an included feature of the item.
So in the end, what could have been a great opportunity to bring more atmosphere and individuality into our homes turned out to be just another cosmetic trinket.

So they actually went through the 'trouble' of producing new/rewritten music for this? I did not see that comming. I always thought they would just take existing pieces from the soundtrack, perhaps digitally modify them a bit and leave it at that. Well this explaines why there is only one piece at the moment since writing/arranging and recording music is pretty time consuming. I'm not entirely sure what to think about this. I definitely appreciate the effort and I love this version of the old title theme! But at the same time I wish we had more options. Only creating more options now requires to produce new music to fit the style. Don't get me wrong, new music is always great! I just fear that we might not get that much more additions any time soon. Still the music might be a reason to use it besides it's flaws. But....

Double checked the global, holiday, and Murkmire achievement vendors, but nothing there yet.

Yes. The music box is tied to the "effects" slider.

It does auto activate. Just leave it open and it will auto play when you return to your house. It also auto loops the song while playing.

Unlike the flute, I hope they are in-tune. I suffer from an auditory malady, absolute (perfect) pitch, and anyone who breaks out a flute makes me crazy. For me, at least, it's the most ear-i-tating thing about this game. [Sorry, I couldn't resist.]
