Gives us (magsorcs) a reason to use Bound Aegis, like a minor protection buff or something instead

Instead of a buff to block. My god, buffing the block for a couple of seconds won't help. And we actually need a defensive skill after the nerf to our defenses. Right now the only reason to slot bound aegis is the 8% max magicka buff

I tend to compare Bound Aegis to Inner Light as it is a bridge too far for me to consider slotting both of them on both bars. The active portion of both spells is worthless for me in PvE so it is the slot and forget passives that are the draw. That said, double barring a skill is a big deal and I wouldn't mind a bit more incentive for both these skills.

The following is current info (not checked against PTS):

Bound Aegis gives +8% mag and +1320 to spell and physical resistance. The passive for having a summoning skill slotted gives +20% health and stam recovery. I realize the health/stam recovery is pretty useless for a magsorc.

Inner Light gives +5% mag and +2191 to spell crit. The passive for having a MG skill slotted gives +2% mag and +2% mag recovery.

Bound Aegis is slightly more defensive in my view whereas Inner Light slightly more offensive. Since my sorc runs Empowered Ward, Boundless Storm and Matriarch, she already packs reasonable defense so she slots Inner Light on both bars. Ymmv and I’m not making any decisions/changes while proposed changes are still in PTS. That said, I hate the idea of a possible cast time on my Empowered Ward.

Good comparison, but I want to add that Bound Aegis also gives 2% Spell Damage from the Expert Mage passive. If you are using basic potions then Inner Light is still the clear winner for the 10% Spell Crit. If you have Major Prophecy from potions, then I think Bound Aegis is better than Inner Light for both offense and defense.

@WrathOfInnos thanks so much for pointing that out! I forgot all about that Expert Mage - despite being a Storm passive applies to all sorc skills slotted. :)

Thanks also for your insightful comparison factoring in potions.

IMO its never bad to have added stam recovery esspecially if you're gonna slot it anyway, even on a magicka toon. On my Magplar I double slot Radiant Aura.

They should add burst-heal to bound aegis. That could compensate getting cast-time to ward and give a reason to slot it also for pvp, now it`s only used in pve for +8% magicka.

Also as a stamsorc main, I have to say I liked the earlier version of this skill's stamina morph was much better.

Like, WTF am I going to do with the current 3 second block buff? Make it overall damage reduction. Make it also effect heavy attacks like it did in the past.

First you make the clunky and annoying heavy attack meta compulsory for us, then you take away a very important skill that actually made heavy attacks more useful. What is even going on in your dev meetings?

I would like it if Bound Aegis could activate the Expert Summoner passive for 8% Max Health.

In pve, aegis is superior assuming you run spell pots anyway. In pvp, you really can’t justify either with limited bar space outside of an overload bar (moot point next patch). As far as I know, I have seen nothing in the patch notes that suggests that you can block to mitigate shield damage after all the changes (currently the only thing blocking with a shield up does is drain your stamina pool; it does not impact how much damage your shield takes). The bound aegis block effect could not be more worthless to a mag sorc.
