    So... Take a breath.

Everyone has an opinion about which race works "best" with which class or which gear works "best" with which class.

Are you freaking out about these things because you are playing and not able to do do things and have fun, or are you freaking out about these things because some people are telling you you have made the "wrong" decisions somewhere?

It's important to remember that while everyone has an opinion on what's best, it's really up to you to decide what to play and what to wear while doing so.

My "main" dungeon character wears Defiler's and Tinkerer's sets. Neither are "optimal" but I love them and that's really what matters at the end of the day because trust me when I tell you CAN find a guild who will help you do vet dungeons or PVP or trials playing whatever you like, however you like.
PC/NA - Perpetually casual. Furniture and fish collector. Lover of exploration and opener of urns.
Maxed CPs, still no clue how to endgame, too much time opening urns, prolly.
    Eve Morrison - Templar DPS - Furniture Crafter/Maker of Arms - Co-op w/hubby/achievements/crafting
Jilly Narraway - MagDK DPS - Delves/Dungeons/Dolmans - She murders ALL THE THINGS!
Fynn the Lucky - Warden Tank -- Seer of things/Explorer of places - RP/Solo/Storyline/Completionist
    Siluna Southpaw - StamDK DPS slippery-fingered type/Murder hobo - RP/Solo/Storyline

    Bold choice!
Yes, lots of people will tell you that you are not super-effective and thus should play something they like instead of what you like.
Just like they might tell me to not have my magica warden be bosmer, or not have my stamblade be dunmer, or things like that...

Persaonally I say fu... unm... forget those people! :p;):D

The problem with that is the MMO genre is a competitive genre. It's not a recreational genre, I've never known it to be played that way in any major way.

I mean you can play it in such a fashion, just like how you can play Skyrim competitively. But Skyrim is not a competitive game.

So, I prefer to give recommendations that take into consideration the genre. That needs to be part of it.

Mmorpgs are notorious for being “theme park” games.

You must be thinking of league of legends or other isometric map cleaning MOBA games.

An elder scrolls game is especially meant to be enjoyed as a theme park. The competitive part of this game is such a small community and has the least amount of content as compared to the amount of fully acted/voiced npc storyline content.

Anyway, OP. I haven’t played sorcerer in over a year so I can’t give you tips on the class specifically. I’m in a guild called Lone Wolf Help which is exactly what it sounds like, a guild of solo players “lone wolves” who might occasionally need help. They are very laid back and respectful. Many adults over 30 in that guild too.

    https://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/discussion/152562/lone-wolf-help-na-friendly-casual-cross-faction/p1

It’s run by two Community Ambassadors (chosen by ZOS) and they have a lot of good support for newbs.

@MissBizz also has videos and a gaming channel with good advice.

Here’s one, 20 minutes, just the basics so you can enjoy yourself.

    Wrong.
It -can- be played as competetive game. Fighting others in PvP, doing better then others in dungeons and trials to get on leaderboards, etc. (and whining every time the powers that be nerf your overly effective build choice because you loved the advantage and not the character...)
    Or...
...it can be played as cooperative game. Not caring if you win or loose, not caring if you do better then others, just playing your character and having fun, working together with your friends to get through the content even if you may not have the most effective character... that sort of game.

In the end, it depends on how each player gets their fun - some cannot be happy unless they "beat" someone else, others like me don't care about proving themselves better then others and just want to immerse themselves in the game world and stories... I for one am not going to tell others what they have to enjoy, how they have to play, and I am not going to let others tell me what I am supposed to enjoy.

Then don't. If you find yourself in a place where you absolutely need that last 10% or so to do what you want in game, you can race change then.

Last weekend I completed VMA on my Redguard magsorc using Infernal Guardian, Infallible Aether, Undaunted Infiltrator and VMA lightning on my back bar. Without a pet. And because of the Redguard stam passive I did the final round on blue food. My High Elf magsorc has to use purple. So yes it's quite possible.

    Don't listen to them!
    It's not worth it!

There will be people like that all over ESO, mostly found in PUGs, who will tell you to do this, or play that, tell you to change your characters race, load or gear to what they deem best. They might have a point when it comes to being super-effective... but its a point only valid to those who value using the most effective character possible (and then wonder why everyone else like that plays a similar build...).

The -only- reason to change something about your characters is if you think of something that might be more fun for you...
So... if your character is -fun- for you as it is, play it as you like it!
And if that means you may have to stop PUGing and only play with friends who will not give you a hard time about being less then totally effective in your character build, instead enjoying the added challenge of playing with a less-then-META character...
...then that is what you should do.

Remember, you play the game for -your- enjoyment, not theirs! ;) And know that there are a great many people in ESO who will choose character over effect, and would be right there with you playing combinations like that!

At the end of the day, you are playing your character, not everyone else. You play to your strengths. If you're more comfortable with a magicka build, you just have to build around your characters stats. Not enough magicka bonuses for your character? You can supplement your magicka pool with food/drink, gear, and your CP allocation.

You can't make everyone happy, it is mind numbing to try to, and you should always do what makes you the most comfortable.
