Hello, I was trying to stream snipe and i traveled to 2 diffrent instances and i still couldnt find the streamer. So i kept scrolling down on my guild list and kept traveling to someone whos in deshaan just incase itd put me in the same instance as the streamer. And it did. I thought there were only 2 instances? how many are there?

    Depends on multiple factors really. I believe they are spun up only as needed.

    More ppl -> more instances

    At least that's the most logical (and my logic) way to implement instances. There will be a max cap for sure, but shouldn't be easily reached

    One thing to note that if you did some quests that alter the zone (etc you cleared a village of ghosts and they are no longer there etc), you will never end up in the same instance as those who didn't do the quest, unless you travel to players that didn't

    I think 2 instances of the map is the minimum - (one EU and one NA). But the game will create more as needed based on the number of people in the area (and then delete them when they're not needed any more). That's why you never have to queue up to enter a map, except for Cryodiil where there's only 1 instance per server.

    If you've ever played Guild Wars 2 I think it's the same system - but in that game it's a lot more obvious because the game will prompt you to leave the map if there's not many people on it, because the dynamic events make it more obvious when you've gone onto a different copy of the map and because people will use the Looking For Group tool to move between map copies to get to one they want.

    One thing to consider is that the game puts you into "instances" with people you know, like guild members. Unless one of them happens to be in the same one as the streamer, you might be jumping to the same one if you are just jumping to guild members.

    Always enough to put you in a different one from the friend you're trying to see without grouping. That's the rule.

    I whish you could see a list of which ones are currently available and manually choose which one to travel to, just like in all the other games

    That might not be what you really want. It is much easier to group with someone, or just have the game group with friends and guild mates.

    Nick Konkle called these instances "channels". (I guess they use "instance" for something else, internally)

    At one time, I figured that a channel only held between 300-and 500 people max, and they don't have to be at the max amount. They could be using a new one each time one gets half full. There might be a fixed number available at all times, with empty ones during slow periods, or they could create them and destroy them as server population increases and decreases throughout the day.

    On top of that, there is evidence to support the idea that the server can move people in and out of channels. People who were playing during the beta weekend could watch the server do this. If they still have this capability, and have maintained it, we cannot be guaranteed that the list of channels for a zone isn't changing all the time, and that we might not be in the same channel the entire time we are playing in that zone.

    The point is that, at the busier times of the day, the list to choose from might be too large, or be meaningless.

    is 300-500 people in each channel for the whole tamriel? or isd it only for certain maps like ex: deshaan has max of 300 until the next person to travel there will be sent to a diffrent instance? Or is it 300- 500 people in tamriel and the next person to log in will be in a diffrent tamriel instance?

    A channel seems to be a Zone, so anyone you see in zone chat is probably in the same channel. That will include interior spaces, like the bank and delves, but not instanced dungeons.

    There are as many as it takes to maintain the balance they set. It is self adjusting on opening and closing them.

    A channel is one 'viewing' of a zone...it contains a certain amount of people, and, I know from being here since beta, that they were definitely using the shifting channels at least as late as just prior to one tamriel. It's almost certain they still have this ability. Almost the only way to guarantee that you end up in that particular channel is to teleport to someone you know is in there (usually a friend or groupmate). Otherwise, there's a chance, larger during busy times, that you'll end up in another channel.
