This morning while doing a Dolmen in Auridon another player decided it was appropriate to spam me with messages claiming I'm a "poor MagSorc." I won't dispute the claim, neither do I contend his appraisal didn't bother me; merely writing this bodes otherwise. Notwithstanding, I feel compelled to offer the following.
- Not all who play ESO are meta-brained.
- Many of us find immense enjoyment trying different builds (outside the cookie-cutter standards du jour).
- Most of us are dealing with highly varied capabilities and limitations with respect to physical ability and computer hardware.
- Finally, nearly all of us are operating under a continuum of in-game expectations.
For myself: I'm 70 years old, recovering from a stroke, and because of this and severe tremors, I have minimal use of my hands. Mainly because of this I don't do groups or PvP. Period. MagSorcs work really well for me, given my circumstances; I have five of them in varying races, equipment, and skills. Some are better than others, generally, but there's no overground content I haven't done solo, including public dungeons, delves, and many world bosses. The only time my characters die is from probing a world boss to test feasible tactics. DPS on my five MagSorcs ranges from 27K to as high as 40K. Mind you, all my gear was either crafted or collected from overground content. Admittedly, by the prevailing standard, I may possibly be the worst player in the game.
When our friend decided to assess the poor quality of my play, I was on a pet-focused sorc, one that quite deliberately uses a Clannfear and Twilight Matriarch vice a Volatile Familiar/Matriarch combination. Yes, I know this limits my DPS, in this case to around 37K max. Nonetheless, I routinely solo Dolmens with this Sorc and have played through all the Main and AD quests with great ease. Fact is, It's kind of a brainless build, which I like because I'm very often focused more on an audiobook or music than I am playing the game (yet another reason I don't group).
I quite like ESO because it comports well to my needs and is a wholly lovely world in which to exist. For many hours every day it provides me the opportunity to playout things, that because of age and physical infirmity, are realistically beyond my grasp in real life.
And so to the point of this politely intended rant, and to the individual who felt it necessary to call me out: you play your game and I shall continue to play mine.
Cheers.
